An independent audit of TANF spending at DHS reported questionable spending of $69 million under the regime of former Executive Director John Davis.
We could dig through the weeds but we already did that in an earlier post last year and besides, the table of contents says plenty.
State Auditor Shad White issued a similar report last year. He tweeted:
This independent forensic audit commissioned by DHS corroborates my team's work over the last two years, and it shows what we have known for some time: there was a tragic amount of welfare money misspent here.
The audit is posted below.

Five million dollars? That’s real money.
Reminiscent of the Canton Municipal Utilities scandal, of which little or nothing has been recovered. It seems to have just “Gone Away”. Is this the same route our state auditor is going to take?
This is reminiscent of the Canton Municipal Utilities (CMU) scandal which has been brushed aside with very little of the embezzled money being recovered. Why not “take a look” at this. It is pretty simple and easily traceable.
This corruption is systemic and multi-generational.
Blame Lynn Fitch. Shad issued demands against CMU. The AG has to litigate them in court, which she has refused to do.
Lynn’s been busy
7:16 couldn’t wait 20 minutes to see his own post show up.
Kingfish, are you telling us that state auditor can not examine CMU irregularities unless the state attorney general’s office litigates with them in court? I am no attorney, but I certainly didn’t realize the state AGs office had this kind of almost unlimited power. That being said, I would love her offices explanation.
What part of this do y'all not get? All OSA can do is investigate and issue demands. The AG has to go to court on it's behalf.
Under John Wallace, CMU illegally transferred roughly $20 million to the city of Canton. This is per testimony and court records in front of the PSC and also in the annexation attempt.
We have some powerful politicians on the National level from Brookhaven Ms, Just saying, maybe something! Just saying! I don’t know shit! Just saying!
Naw, forget it!
Lynn can't cross the Blackmons re CMU. They can hurt her gubernatorial aspirations.
The real question is simple: how much, if any, of these stolen funds ended up in Phil Bryant’s pocket?
So Phil Bryant (the “Whistle Blower”) and Brett Favre are all of a sudden squeaky clean and mentioned nowhere. Must be nice to have friends in high places.
And before all you sheep get all excited, don’t forget Phil has already been caught in a lie about the concussion drugs. And the reporter who broke that story quickly left the Clarion Ledger and relocated out of state.
"Soul City Hospitality" - Lotsa sammiches and pickles.
I'm interested in the findings on Brett Farve, Marcus Dupree, Ted The Million Dollar Man, and Paul LaCoste. Nancy & John loved our sports heroes.
This article is not about CMU.
This article is about republicans misuse of federal funds to feather their own nests.
The hate and vitriol of the readers / posters of this site who spew venom and “whataboutisms” to deflect from the fact that MS Republicans are as corrupt as MS democrats ever were. Truly a sad day for the state and it’s citizens and a real moment for supposed Christians.
The only real difference here is race. These are white thieves who stole money from largely black recipients…..so it’s just fine.
Shad's efforts are pretty much performative..... no big fish have been gaffed and landed in the boat.....are there are plenty as many on this board know. Why the Feds haven't been brought in for so many other agencies is a huge question mark....or have they? Still waiting.
If Shad wants to progress to his next elected position or office, he must pick his battles carefully so as to not truly upset the "Mississippi Way" that directs oceans of money in key directions.
And yes, Lynn Fitch is far more useless than Conway Twitty was.
Oh look more of the hushpuppy family….Clinton’s finest.
And the reporter who broke that story quickly left the Clarion Ledger and relocated out of state.
Thanks for confirming the black helicopters I heard circling overhead last night were not a figment of my imagination.
It is interesting that Phil has conveniently been removed from most all discussions involving this entire situation…….
I bet that changes when the trials begin, assuming they aren’t further delayed.
Note to self: buy tin foil futures.
Baby Chowke doesn't have a monopoly on sticky fingers and palm grease?
Today's politicians and political appointees - same as yesterday's politicians and political appointees.
No wonder the Medical Cannabis group wants no part of putting the profits from the program into the general fund. Too much corruption!
Kf remember most Mississippians don't understand basic civics.
It never stops-

Don’t worry you will be able to toke up soon enough .
Wonder what sort of deal was cut with Bryant, Songy and Snell, to keep their necks out of this noose?
Lol, and it's this kinda stuff that emboldens our local elected to do pretty much the same with PPE money. If you know there is a 80 % chance you won't get caught stealing the peoples money then it's worth the risk for greed striken a-holes.
Curious as to how an external audit to which the State Auditor is an admitted associated third party who also supplied work papers, etc. can be considered “independent”?
The Clinton Mafia is about to runout of luck. Mommy is in a panic, Little Trooper is bowed up looking for somebody to blame and Little Nic may need a real lawyer. Things always seem to work out, don't they?
