The Mississippi Department of Human Services issued the following statement.
A Madison County, Miss. resident has been arrested for SNAP fraud following an investigation conducted by the Investigations Division of the Mississippi Department of Human Service (MDHS).
Investigators found that Sabrina Catchings received an over issuance of SNAP benefits in the amount of $30, 954.00 due to Catchings fraudulently receiving benefits for failure to report income and household composition accurately.
Due to the substantial amount of overpayment and the evidence of alleged fraud found during the investigation, the case was turned over to Madison County District Attorney to be presented to the Grand Jury for criminal prosecution. The Madison County District Attorney secured an indictment on September 24, 2021, and Catchings later turned herself in to MDHS and Madison County officials this morning.
The case was investigated by DHS Investigator Nicholas “Ryan” Stokes of the MDHS Investigations Division.
The Investigations Division is a subset of the MDHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG), which was created in August 2018 and charged with detecting, preventing, and deterring fraud, waste, and abuse within the agency. OIG has been responsible for millions in dollars collected from SNAP overpayments.
“This investigation and ultimate prosecution demonstrates the controls we have in place to identify, investigate, and eliminate fraud in our programs,” MDHS Executive Director Robert G. “Bob” Anderson said. “This is also a great example of cooperation between our county office, investigations team, and local law enforcement.”
Suspected fraud can be reported to MDHS online any time by submitting the MDHS Fraud Tip Form at https://www.mdhs.ms.gov/

We used to call them units, departments and divisions. Now they're subsets. Can pronouns be far behind? And will pay increases follow? Will PERS be affected?
Oh snap, she actually lives in Canton. If convicted she would be qualified to be on the CMU Board of Commissioners.
bART fARVE PAID THE MONEY BACK THO!
Attn 11:37 He has not paid the total which includes interest, investigative fees, penalties, etc. P.S. You may want to practice on your typing skills.
for the uninformed SNAP benefits used to be called food stamps.
they had to change it to a cute little name so as to not offend anyone.
$31,000 in snap benefits. that's a lot of potato chips and fargo soda.
i bet this woman is 400 lbs
another on of ''the hungry'' in this state
It never stops-
I hate to break it to MDHS, but a large portion of their recipients are not “accurately “ reporting their household income and composition.
There’s an awful lot of “living together but not married” and not reporting this because “we aren’t legally married” to receive more benefits. Even with the reality of forced child support when single mom applies for benefits, these people STILL choose this path because the overall handout is greater. I’ve seen it over, and over, and over for years!!
Maybe now that MDHS has been exposed for allowing fraud on the level of the News, the department will continue to press against fraud. They are going to be some busy bees!
Kudos to them for stopping this thief!
There are thousands of people doing this...
I guarantee someone ratted her out. The controls on these programs are almost zero. I’m not against the programs, they are needed but are fraud magnets.
All of these programs are fraud magnets. My wife was a nurse in a facility that catered to very poor Mississippians and she had the patients' trust enough that she was constantly being given advice on how to defraud the various systems. She came home every day with a different scheme she had learned to collect lots and lots of public money from "home daycare" to SNAP and tax credits.
It would have be helpful to know where her income was coming from. Was she doing braids on the side for cash ? Running a daycare for cash? Or did she actually have a job that was taking out taxes and she just didn't report that.
One could say the entire government for the State of Mississippi is a "fraud magnet"....it's so poorly run that it's beyond incompetence, and therefore deliberate. Strange - but Mississippi's worthless government is no different than Biden's worthless administration.
Anything to do with the government is a fraud magnet. The people who work for the government know that it isn't their money they are giving away. It just makes their job a lot easier to not do a damn thing. If the said anything about all of the fraud they saw people might take a look at them or how they got their job.
oh my goodness , 12:17 so gets it right.....very rare on this site
Wait until you hear about the $1 million Brett Farve received for speaking engagements he never attended as part of a federal grant administered by DHS! You'll be shocked!
You might also learn to spell the man's name correctly. I know it's tough out there on the porch.
If you want to see real fraud...take a look on the highways at all the SUVs and vans up and down the interstate with signs on them transporting 'indigent, disadvantaged and otherwise entitled folk' from one end of the state to the other (and beyond) for 'medical appointments'. The cost of this to the taxpayer must run up in the millions.
If you don't see this in your local community or highway, next time you're at a 'pull in' at a hospital, pay attention. And, sadly, our 'government' conducts classes and pushes internet instruction on how, exactly, to get yourself qualified for these 'grants'.
I live in Clarksdale, got the high blood, and need to get to St. Dominics. Can you schedule me for a ride? I can't go 'cept on Wednesday.
And in the Delta, on the white vans (with blue stripes) that transport all these folk from place to place, guess who's image appears on the quarter panel and rear door? Correct...Barack and Bennie. And a few of you wonder how these politicians manage to get votes.
