There was an attempted car jacking on Poplar and Hazel last night in Jackson around 9:15 p.m. The boyfriend of female victim thwarted it and chased the bad guys north on Hazel.
Around six gunshots were fired around Hazel and Belhaven Street. It is not known who fired the shots. JPD arrived very fast and started scouring the area, looking for them. I don't know if they caught them. A gentleman stated on social media:

"Police cars have been searching the area for the perps" I hate to tell JPD how to do their jobs, but I am betting after that went down, they are on the opposite side of State St. I am not expert, but just a hunch. I doubt they are driving around or live in or around Belhaven.
Rest easy neighbors. We got cameras all over Belhaven now. All of our crime problems are solved. Once we vote in the CID we'll be living in the Shangri-La of the South. Happy days are here again!
Belhaven = Carjacking capital of Mississippi!
Jackson Po Po needs to patrol Belhaven in unmarked cars.
Business as usual in the hood.
Gee, I thought Belhaven and The Fondren were gun free zones. More homes on the market in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
What about all of those cameras Belhaven residents were hoodwinked into paying for?
The officers staffing Baby Chowke's "real time crime center" are likely playing solitaire or hearts vs. staring at cameras.
Didn't M-Bar ........oh wait. Soooooo glad I got screwed by my realtor years ago on a property.
Fully Armed Females are not easy prey.
Luckily for her, not even a Hinds County Grand Jury would indict a woman for defending herself with deadly force.
If you are going to leave Jackson because of the crime you might as well move out of Mississippi. If you move to Madison or Gluckstadt you are hemmed in between two high crime areas.
I just can't get it in my head why any civilized person with the ability to leave doesn't get out of there. It's literally playing Russian Roulette to stay at tis point.
Time for The Belhaven to hire a few snipers.
317 -- good guess, but it appears that they didn't get out of the neighborhood as quickly as you would think. There are a couple of neighbors who's ring cameras caught one or two of the perps trying to run through their backyards - but didn't understand that many of those yards had fences.
Couple of good shots of them trying to negotiate through the mazes. Appears that, not necessarily on any community cameras, although there may be some we haven't seen, but the Ring network has some pretty damn good shots of them.
Now, what the popo and the court system might do with this helpful info, can't say. But after the shots were fired, might not be coming back as quickly.
Apparently Belhaven is so not-racist the residents can’t even give a full description of carjackers.
Except to a fool, cameras do not offer even the perception of safety. Cameras only offer the opportunity for after-the-fact visual documentation. When it comes to crime in Jackson, cameras don't prevent a f'ing thing.
To 4:48 and others who are hating on Belhaven,
As a Belhaven resident I can walk to Elvie’s, Fenian’s, Lou’s, Corner Market, Keifer’s, Manship, Picantes, Pizza Shack, the gym, Baptist, UMC, Millsaps/Belhaven/JSU football games, Fondren, downtown, etc. We are also planning on getting a brewery in 2022. I have no idea who you are or where you live, but something tells me you don’t get to walk to such areas. Also, mama didn’t raise no b****. At least we don’t have any of the libs y’all have that want to defund the police and crap, but are too scared to live in Jackson. All talk.
The author in the screenshots above is the man.
Hilarity ensues in the GBNA Nextdoor
Even of they get caught Judge Faye or Judge Tommie will just look the other way and suspend their sentence.
If they don't say "white men", you know that they were most likely Oriental or American Indian. Right? ;-)
Shame they weren't better shots.
@4:36pm - The difference for those living in Madison and Gluckstadt is that the perps will be caught and will be put away for a long time since our circuit judges actually do their jobs and don’t hand out blessings. But stay in Hinds with your 4 clown judges.
Belhaven needs to forget Securitas and hire Blackwater instead. Find a couple combat vets who'll hunt these thugs for sport. That'll stop them. The old guys in the toy Securitas cars sure don't get their respect.
Meanwhile, Chockwe is more interested in shaking down the gun show than the people with guns. Has he said much on his summer of violence?
@9:19pm - Have fun with all that walking. Let us know when you get mugged/shot and one of your circuit judges hands out a blessing to the perp (assuming JPD catches them).
The ability to walk to cool spots is valid.
The chance of being mugged while walking to nice restaurants and events, is also valid.
But no hate from me.
Live in a place that makes you happy.
I know I do, and if Belhaven brings you joy, then I wish you well in life.
@ 9:19
I graduated from Belhaven College some years ago. Back then, if you attempted to walk to "Elvie’s, Fenian’s, Lou’s, Corner Market, Keifer’s, Manship, Picantes, Pizza Shack, the gym, Baptist, UMC, Millsaps/Belhaven/JSU football games, Fondren, downtown, etc"...... You were playing with fire.
In current times it's just flat out not smart. You keep on kidding yourself until someone robs you and beats your ass while you are out for an evening stroll.
Just because it hasn't happened to you YET doesn't mean the danger isn't there.
and I LOVE Belhaven.
@9:19 PM - true, except after dark Belhaven becomes like the city in the movie The Omega Man.

I hear this is the latest fashion in Belhaven and Fondren.
Until the city gets that drug house on the 1100 block of Lyncrest shut down nothing will change. JPD has known about the problem for years now. Some of us are starting to wonder if Lumumba's drug boys have an interest in the operation.
Why do you rednecks pull so hard against Belhaven and downtown in general? If you live amongst your people in Rankin or Madison, do you not realize that you will suffer as well if Jafracistan as you call it isn't doing well? The State is the problem, but ya'll give your redneck handlers who are fleecing it a pass.....
Every city has a Belhaven . A nice place full of libbies surrounded by blight.
I agree 12:13.
Rednecks do give their handlers a pass and I agree that its wrong.
Just like the woke libtards give their leaders free reign.
Please don't act like your side of IPA drinking, Hipster pant wearing favoritism is somehow elite.
I can at least respect anyone who sees that both parties are worthless.
I walk through Belhaven all the time.
(Here comes the Fat Melvin jokes)
I have been posting some on Nextdoor (which I normally don't do.) Have noticed that if I post anything about my concerns related to crime in Belhaven/Fondren/NE Jackson, I get assaulted by residents in these neighborhoods. I have a real concern because I work in Jackson. Why is it bad for me to want to know what crimes are being committed in Jackson?
4:00pm, what is your point? I have not party affiliation and had to google IPA. Take bourbon, neat, thanks. What side? Your respect is not worth much if you are so condescending on your .....whatever your position is other than disdain.
12:13, Speaking for myself, I’m mostly just sick of being lied to by those who insist that Jackson is not what it really is: consistently one of the worst-run cities in the country, with a failing school system, and one of the highest per-capita homicide rates in the world.
It’s very frustrating to actually want better, when those in a position to make it better (and their enablers) continue to claim there isn’t really a problem, or that the problem isn’t worse than any other place.
In other words, I get angry when someone urinates on my leg and tells me it’s raining, repeatedly.
Dang 7:41, he was just tryin to give you a 'virtual' way out... you know, a bro hug.
"I heard a car's headlights going north on Hazel..."
Dammit! I knew we should not have discontinued auto inspections in the Sip.
'I can walk from Belhaven to Fondren and JSU football games'.
Sure you can. And I can remember walking from Shakey's Pizza Parlor to MSU vs Alabama games. But, that was 50 years ago when you could park anywhere on a side street with your doors unlocked. Would you care to comment on what's changed? (Other than the perception of crime?)
You can walk from Belhaven to Fondren and JSU football game AND enjoy the aroma of surface sewage discharges the entire length of your trip!
Great things JXN!
