The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,116 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 9 new deaths. The total number of cases is 109,255. The virus has caused 3,160 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 94,165 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said there is only 18% ICU capacity statewide. He said six hospitals in the Jackson metro area have no ICU capacity.
Dr. Dobbs lamented the rise in Covid-19 cases in a press conference today. He said the pandemic improved when masking and social distancing were followed. However, once those practices were discarded by more and more people, cases rose in number again.
Dr. Dobbs said indoor events are driving the spread of the virus. He also said there are increased clusters in churches where popular precautions are not followed.

Spiked when temps started dipping and after mask mandate was dropped. But hey, free biscuits!
It's a vicious circle. When an announcement is made indicating that things are getting better, people throw caution to the wind and then it gets worse.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Hugging others is the worst part of church.
Dobbs has been hollering about cases, cases for 2 weeks no, yet critical metric remain level? When is tater tot going to can this fear mongerer?
Number of recoveries speaks volumes of the severity of this cold.
"Dobbs has been hollering about cases, cases for 2 weeks ".
He's been yapping for about eight months now.
Kind of like Fauci.
They both appear to love being on camera.
Media fame is not taught in most med schools.
Some of it is fatigue. We've been dealing with this since March. The traffic on C19 posts is way down from a few months ago. People are just plain tired of dealing with it and don't want to be bothered about it.
If you want people to really take it seriously and follow the protocols put forth by Dobbs and others, then unfortunately, more people will have to die. That is just the way human nature is.
Cases don’t equal symptoms or deaths, next. Everyone on here has it or has had it
People are just plain tired of dealing with it and don't want to be bothered about it.
Sounds Cultural...
I enjoy church. It's the people that go there that I can't stand.
If you are not going to wear a mask and social distance, then please stay hone when you get COVID and not rush to the hospitals to put healthcare workers' lives in jeopardy. If you are that selfish, just stay home and suffer through it.

Grow a set, live free or die!
Dobbs seems to love the camera and Tate seem to get pissed at Dobbs when he indirectly counters Tate at the press conferences.
Tate is too smart to make an issue of Dobbs . . . at the moment.
Gawd knows, Tate ( like any Conservative) is fighting a multi front battle with the local and national press.
Dobbs is a very smart Doctor, but I honestly hope he gets over his fear of eating lunch at a public restaurant.
Masks fail 85% of the time per the CDC.
As long as Medicare continues to pay 20% more for covid positive patients, hospitals will continue to happily admit them. $$$$$
People are tired of dealing with it because we all know waaay more people who tested positive and recovered with very light symptoms. And I mean old, unhealthy, and obese people. You seriously have to be one foot in the grave (or contract pneumonia) to need an ICU.
Dobbs laments his 15 minutes of fame, in a position no one really cared about until February, is passing...
6:33 LIES. Misinformation.
Politifact: "Carlson said that according to a recent CDC report, "Almost everyone — 85% — who got the coronavirus in July was wearing a mask, and they were infected anyway. So clearly this doesn't work the way they tell us it works."
Carlson didn’t pull the 85% figure out of thin air, but the conclusion he drew is wrong in multiple ways. For starters, the CDC report wasn’t designed to measure mask effectiveness, and the study’s authors said the participants might not be representative of the U.S.
The findings don’t prove masks are ineffective, either. Masks are most effective at preventing infected people from spreading the virus, and studies show they can help slow the spread.
The correlation the CDC found between positive coronavirus tests and going to restaurants and bars suggests that taking masks off to eat or drink might increase risk."
"We rate Carlson’s statement False."
@6:35. Please provide a verifiable source for your comment. You are totally misinformed.
This is no longer a pandemic, in case anyone missed that. It is now a case-demic, in which we continue to test ever more people with overly sensitive PCR testing that shows fragments of covid long after the person has recovered. These "cases" then serve as fodder to increase the death count if they perchance die of any reason for up to 30 days after their date of death.
Dr. Dobbs is doing a superb job in a difficult, thankless position. He is to be commended for articulating the need to take precautions.
@10:18 6:35 here. Link below. Also, has link within article to CMS announcement that requires a positive covid test to receive the 20% increase in DRG payment.

One of the reasons that traffic is down on C-19 posts is the fatigue of rational, informed people in dealing with or even reading comments from ignorant science deniers and trolls. Those people are so damned frustrated with their inability to coerce the rest of us into carelessness that they constantly gaslight and insult us. I read the posts but have no further interest in trying to explain science to the fools. We all should be aware of statistics, hot spots, evolving information about short and long term consequences of infection - that's what educated, progressive people do - but "those people" prefer to troll, mislead, misinform for apparently political reasons.
8:28: I am with you. Some trolls seem to delight in spreading a virus of misinformation.
I think In Jackson area Im still seeing a lot of masks. But everywhere else not so much. Put the mask on its not that burdensome and if it helps any its worth it. Come on vaccine
@Green Acres
At the risk of being called a troll, another reason traffic is down is the fatigue of those like myself who question why Team Apocalypse insists that changing everything science has told us concerning virus transmission and pandemics only in the last 6 months with the wuflu. They told us that masks do no work and are not recommended, that they increase the risk of illness, but after some waffling, now we 'know' they work? Where are the studies that have changed that make this 'settled science'? Why have the experts been consistently overestimating the fear of overrun hospitals and mass graves (never happened)? Why does the media highlight increased positive tests and drone on about 'give it two weeks and we'll see increased deaths from this'? And when these fears prove again and again to be overblown, they never correct the story and admit they just don't understand? When have we ever recommended quarantining healthy people?
You call this trolling, but I'd call it an appeal to common sense and a return to science away from fear. Yes, I do agree that it's frustrating, but I stop short of calling you a fool.
Don't let fear dominate your life.
@10:18 and with @6:35
another source for you - people keep asking for sources for the fact that hospitals are incentivized more money for corona, and in fact are filling their coffers in this pandemic.
The coronavirus relief legislation created a 20% premium, or add-on, for COVID-19 Medicare patients.
We rate the claim that hospitals get paid more if patients are listed as COVID-19 and on ventilators as TRUE.

Except he himself knows it’s 99% 80+ year olds dying from it as he doesn’t wear a mask in his daily doings. Confirmed. I’ve seen you, Dobby.
@10:42, Stop saying what you think, it’s not that burdensome and if it keeps one person from being offended. Hand over your guns, it’s not that burdensome, if it saves one life. Quarter some soldiers in your home, it’s not that burdensome and if it helps in any way. Let police search you every time you walk the street, it’s not that burdensome and it might save 1 life. If you are arrested, just keep talking, it might make things easier for the investigator. Oh, and do so without a lawyer, who needs those. You get me? And YES! We definitely need a vaccine that includes a GAVI/MasterCard chip (look it up)
11:14. with more than 1 death per thousand in this state, rest assured we aren't living in fear but are living with with a bunch of science deniers that refuse to believe covid-19 can spread through the air. there are numerous studies that say masks work. just because it didn't show up on your 'facebook feed' doesnt mean there arent studies..
We made it way back then from a far more serious illness. We should survive this cold no problem.

@4:38
I reject your label of science denier. Keep in mind that the term is offensive and meant to echo those who would claim that the holocaust did not happen. In fact, I am exactly the opposite. I believe in science, as it has historically has been understood - to study the world through observation and experimentation. That's precisely what has been abandoned by nervous nellies like you in this current epidemic (the pandemic having ended).
Only with wuflu have the world stopped following well established protocols for dealing with a viral infection - such as quarantining the sick rather than the healthy. We have seen our experts waffling on who should and shouldn't wear a mask. We have seen draconian and totalitarian tactics employed on citizens who are paddle boarding, alone, in the open air - only to be swatted by police by boat and on foot to be hauled off for the sin of not wearing a mask. Worse, we've seen the constitution ignored to placate people like you who scream science, but have nothing to point to except your own empty words - no studies show masks are effective in preventing the transmission of an aerosolized virus. At most, they 'may' help 'some' - but you have no data to back up that claim.
A better approach would be some, a tiny bit, of humility from those experts to say 'we don't know, we're guessing, it may help, we've got nothing else', rather than INSISTING that they have the absolute knowledge only to see them change and change again. Where is this solid evidence that has now made it clear that the experts and science now all agree and demands we change course to masks all the time for everyone?
Keep in mind that I don't claim that c19 isn't real. It is. It has killed many and will kill some more. I dispute the overcounting that is obvious. I dispute the methodology by which we are equating cases with infections as if they are identical. I advocate that people make their own decisions about their own health and how best to mitigate the risks they face. A little exercise, some sunshine, vitamin E and C wouldn't be the worst thing we could hear as recommendations from health experts.
I'm not on facebook, fyi, so you have to hit me up here.
Calm Down,
According to your grasp of true science, the pandemic has ended? In your estimation, the governments of the states have instituted "draconian and totalitarian tactics employed on citizens"? You decry those who are, in your estimation, "INSISTING that they have the absolute knowledge"? And you wish for them "a tiny bit, of humility"?
And then you "dispute the overcounting that is obvious," and you "dispute the methodology by which we are equating cases with infections as if they are identical." Finally, you prescribe "[a] little exercise, some sunshine, vitamin E and C."
It must be tough being the most knowledgeable, wise, and humble person in the room. Is it lonely up there at the top?
10:43: So, who was your science? Dr. Scott Atlas? He’s just been blocked by Twitter tonight for attempting to spread misinformation to the public on the efficacy of masks in contradiction of CDC guidelines and the studies showing masks work. Some tutor. Some quack.
@11:34 pm
Yes to all of your questions. It is very lonely. But we do have openings available. It merely requires that you put on your thinking cap.
The term pandemic has no specific definition that would allow us to differentiate between it and an epidemic. The term is a tool to gin up fear and panic.
WHO declared a pandemic on 3/11/2019. At that time, we had 118,000 cases and 4,291 deaths worldwide reported. If that meets the threshold for a pandemic, why don't we see this declared for the flu each year when it causes an average of 36,000 deaths?
Stay safe and wear your Biden double mask, patent pending.
