The shooter of Madison County Deputy Brad Sullivan wants to move his trial to another county.
A Madison County grand jury indicted Edgar Egbert for attempted first
degree murder, kidnapping, and felony evasion on August 5. Egbert allegedly met his ex-wife and her friend at Walgreens in
Jackson. Egbert allegedly kidnapped her male friend and took him to his
isolated Madison County home. He chained the victim to the bed. The
ex-wife reported the kidnapping to the police.
Egbert saw deputies arrive at his home and fled in his Jeep Wrangler. A
high-speed chase took place but deputies managed to stop the vehicle by
throwing spike strips in its path. The defendant was stopped but not
done as the former Marine proceeded to pull out a full-automatic rifle
and fire (allegedly) 90 rounds at the deputies. Two rounds struck
Deputy Brad Sullivan in the head while another deputy was struck in the
arm. Sullivan barely survived and spent months recovering in the
hospital.
Egbert moved for a change of venue yesterday in Madison County Circuit Court. The motion states:
The incident that lead to Mr. Egbert’s indictment was sensational, front-page news throughout the central Mississippi area and resulted in a public outpouring of support for law enforcement. Media attention on this case has been pervasive, widespread, and ongoing. He cite twelve examples of media articles and social media posts to bolster his claim that he can not get a fair trial in Madison County and its adjacent counties. Egbert asked the Court to move the trial to a county with similar demographics that is far enough away that he can get a fair trial.
Attorney J. Michael Duncan represents the defendant.

His ass should be fried in Madison County. Period......
He'll have to move that one to the moon in order to get an impartial jury.
They should move it to Texas. They still execute folks there. I bet they would not mind finding a killer from Mississippi guilty.
What were Egbert's plans, regarding his ex-wife's friend?
And did he have a history of substance abuse? Did he have any substance(s) in his system, at the time of this incident?
Was Egbert on an antidepressant? In stories like this one, the mainstream media will omit this detail, usually, since drug companies are their biggest advertisers.
Attn 2:59 Who did he kill?
I disagree with the 2 thugs at 11:12 and 2:59. Executing people unlawfully is murder. Advocating for murder makes you both pieces of shit. Show some respect for the law or get the hell out.
Sorry to deflate your rage engorged, um, brains, but he can’t be executed anywhere. Mississippi, Texas or elsewhere.
All the Jackson hating chuds are real quiet on this one. I can’t recall anyone shooting at six Jackson cops anytime recently. STAY AWAY FROM MADISON!!!!!
If he and his attorneys play it right they might actually get an Innocent or at least a hung jury if held in a Blue State/District with strong anticop feelings.
@8:13 PM - Yo brightspark, this didn't happen in Madison.
8:13 - That's because you never six Jackson cops together, anywhere, other than hanging around the girls at city hall and the courthouse offices.
"@8:13 PM - Yo brightspark, this didn't happen in Madison". So even brighter brightspark, where did it happen if he is charged by MCSO for numerous counts of Aggravated Assault on LEO's in Madison County? If you are referencing to Madison the City, clarify. He is being held at the RCSO, but that's for his protection.
It most certainly did happen in Madison County, Canton to be exact!! On highway 16 near the Canton Country Club. I hope they put this piece of trash under the jail! Only if they can’t give him a shot of “you will never breathe again”!
