Some more dirt just came out about the Metrocenter deal. Stanley Wesley of Respect Our Black Dollars fame posted on Facebook a few days ago:
The Metro Center wasn’t purchased for 10 million dollars, the new owner paid zero dollars for the mall, it was donated because the owners wanted to get from under it, even the city wanted no part of it because it’s a liability. I myself almost made a huge mistake, me and some of my people had a meeting with the new owner right before the building was transferred over to her, she wanted my organization to place it in our non profit “saying we’re going to make it into a Black business mega” I was ready to sign on the dotted line right then and there, however my team informed me to don’t do anything that “something wasn’t right” I cussed everyone out and told them “this is a once and a lifetime opportunity and if they let this deal get by I’m going to be highly pissed. My team was right and I gave them a big thank you and apology, my organization would’ve been liable for all the money that was given for rental space, again thank you team, we dodged the bullet
Brother Stanley: Your team was right. Here is some advice from Arnold Rothstein.

“Black Business Mega”?
Wats dat meen?
scammers never fess up to scamming until sentencing. resolution is years away.
The owner is a convicted felon who served time for a realestate swindle.
The property will be sold for taxes the next 3 yrs.
The Ms. Attorney General needs to investigate AND FAST!!
You know, the entire city would love for this thing to succeed. It doesn't have to be flashy, it should be run honestly. Keep it plain and simple and go from there. Hey, why not say no rent for the first 6 months? Charge $1 for entry, I guarantee that would work better.
If she managed to put it into a non-profit herself, it won't be sold for back property taxes because it's non-taxable. The City of Jackson just lost, annually, over $150,000 in property taxes.
hey, 12:31, as soon as you negotiate no utilities, salaries, insurance or taxes the first 6 months I'm in!
But just in case.... we should probably answer this first: If it can't make it the first 6 months under normal terms, how will it make the next 6 months?
So not 10 million not 1 million free? What are the taxes on mall? PO said take it for nothin?
Must have been a big Albatros
@12:07
It's supposed to mean "Mecca" but when your vernacular consists of words that you have only heard others say but don't actually know the meaning or origins, mecca becomes "mega" and bourgeoisie becomes "boojie" etc. You get the picture.
I could make a fortune with a gun and soft body armor rental kiosk at the entrance to the parking lot. The shoppers could then be packing heat to defend themselves from the inevitable jackers and robbers that will prey on them.
Nice write-off for previous owner.
Correct me if I am wrong, but did we not call this shot before the "transaction" occurred?
Color me stupid for not seeing this coming...
@1:44 PM - exactly. It's like the New Jersey wannabe wise guys saying "motts," when they should be saying mozzarella.
If only she had thrown in some timber futures...
2:06 You must not know what a write-off is. It costs you something to begin with so even if you claim you lost 3 mill. with a donation and it cost you 20 mill. in the beginning it still cost you real money. If you donated it for 3 mill. you only get a 15% donation on taxes ($450,000) you still are short a pile of money. Write-offs are not free money, you still had to invest your money to begin with. Granted, who is going to improve that area? No one
@1:44 PM - exactly. Another example is when people say "I could of..." when it is "I could have..."
Absolutely perfect explanation 1:44 PM.
I wondered what she was talking about myself.
Metro center might better serve the public if had been donated to Hinds County.
Surely conversion of that structure into a new Detention Center would be less expensive than building a new facility.
Plus, the fuel costs for the JPD and the HCSO would decrease significantly as they wouldn't have to
travel between Raymond and Jackson multiple times per day.
just go drive the parking lot. it's not coming back. ever.
It would cost more to convert to a jail than tearing it down and rebuilding a new jail.
Tear it down.
" It would cost more to convert to a jail than tearing it down and rebuilding a new jail."
Well . . . donating Metrocenter to the Fire Academy may be a better option.
2:06 You must not know what a write-off is.
Seinfeld Quote - Kramer: It's a write off for them. Jerry: How is it a write off? Kramer: They just write it off. Jerry: Write it off of what? Kramer: They just write it off! Jerry: You don't even know what a write off is, do you? Kramer: No. Do you? Jerry: No I don't!!
@12:22
Don’t hold your breath. That would require our esteemed AG to come out of hiding and take a position
Several parcels make up metro center. City of Jackson owns a parcel. Around $220,000 for property taxes for the other parcels.
Great location for JSU new stadium. Very close to campus and the interstate.
This is a great location for a JPD "fusion center" for the monitoring of their 100s and 100s of crime preventing security cameras.
Just when I thought “Retro Metro” was going to work.
Hey David Watkins, any chance you want to breath life back into this puppy?
Dang.
She has a great plan.
Just look at her Facebook post.
Why would she lie?
Location would be a great amazon hub.
Paint ball facility. No renovations. It’s ready “as is”
I agree with the poster about this being the site of the new JSU stadium
Prime can buy it for $1 million and sell it to the IHL/Rankins for $15 million.
"The Ms. Attorney General needs to investigate AND FAST!!"
Yeah, right. Hurry up and wait for that to happen, like EVAH!
She spends most of the day calculating her PERS benefits effective June 30, 2023. It's all downhill from here. Thank you, Haley, for what might have been your biggest farkin' mistake.
Just let Coach "Prime" fix it...he's gonna fix everything else. Seriously folks, you can't make this stuff up.
Hello! Attorney General-wake up!
@6:05
And telling her chief of staff, “I am Mississippi’s sweetheart! Make the comments stop!”
To the ones talking about tearing it down and demoing to make something else, the costs to get that place tore out and leveled would be astronomical. Not being a Deborah Downer, just a Randy Realist.
Does the new owner have to report this windfall or the rents she’s collected and not doing anything with to the IRS? Is that akin to earned income tax credit?
I know one of the cyber detectives. A couple months ago, when Lynn was firing all the talent-even the people who donated to her campaign-and replacing them with all those first year lawyers and Dems, she call a meeting with cyber to ask if they could do anything to figure out who the commenters were on here taking bad about her.
So ...
You guys are just not thinking BIG. As someone suggested elsewhere, a few years back, Metrocenter is perfect for reuse as a REGIONAL PAWN MALL!!!

so y’all don’t think we will have a huge ferris wheel, indoor go karts, and a world class foodie food court at the metrocenter?
