On track for 132 homicides in Jackson this year. That would be a 59% increase over 2019 and a 43% increase over the all-time record (92 in 1995).
Trending past 80 homicides per 100,000. Damn frightening.

But we don't need any help sez the Grand Poobah.
'Suffered gun wounds'. Did you mean suffered bullet wounds? The succumb-count keeps on keepin' on.
My money is on a altercation.
House fire where two were shot
It's sad that those who want to escape this lawless, sinking city, there's likely no one to buy them out or pay them enough to get a decent place in a good school district.
@6:56 PM - That's what the progressive dems do, i.e. keep people dependent to them on the plantation.
It’s just the perception of 104 murdered individuals.
Interesting fact - Excluding deaths in a nursing homes since the residents are not out in the community, there have been more murders this year within Jackson than covid deaths in all of Hinds County.
I miss the old Jackson. Going downtown to eat at the Elite and Mayflower restaurants. Tagging along while Mom shopped at Westland Plaza, then a few years later hanging out at the Metro Center. Cruising McDowell Rd in south Jackson, then going to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Deville Plaza. Dancing at Zoli’s on Lakeland Drive.
Those were the good old days in Jackson; without the worry of getting robbed, car jacked, or shot.
It’s really kind of funny if you think about it. We’ve got all of these so-called political leaders…and all of these churches, everywhere…up and down the streets around the Jackson Metro area. Mega church’s even, with preachers pulling huge multi-six figure incomes from their congregation’s “tithes.”
Yet nobody these days; not Democrats, not Republicans, not even the preachers…seem to grasp that there are laws of nature…and when violated, there are extremely terrible consequences (maybe just not for all of us though, right?).
It is very hard to understand really…but maybe the old “no one can serve two masters” verse answers this question. Can’t take a chance of losing the election. Can’t take a chance of not getting that appointed position. Can’t take a chance of not getting invited to the next cocktail party. Can’t take a chance of alienating part of the congregation (might lose those tithes).
So, not only do we not see changes for the better…it, the violent crime, only continues to get worse.
Not too many years ago I remember seeing school aged kids wearing bracelets with “What Would Jesus Do?” written on them. While I guess none of us alive today could ever really know for sure what Jesus “would do,” maybe we could instead just ask, “what would Jesus not do?”
I don’t think Jesus would have sat idly by while innocent little children died while catching stray bullets, not only in the streets, but in the privacy of their own homes…due to out of control crime.
I don’t think Jesus would have sat idly by while children, born to innocence, get propelled into gangs and a life of immorality and horror, due to out of control crime.
I don’t think Jesus would have sat idly by while people make fortunes beyond the wildest imaginations of the vast majority, and instead of using the money they’ve made to help make the lives of innocent children better, they sow division instead, in order that they can make more $$$.
It’s the CRIME STUPID.
6:56, sad indeed. economic bondage extending into a mostly lost generation. my view is serious police presence to stop murders and jackings is the first step.

Exact same memories 8:34 !
Gawd how I loved those fried veal cutlets with white gravy at the Elite !!
We probably encountered each other at some point.
( Except at Zoli’s )
I hated . . . and still hate disco.
LOL
Classic rock , ZZQ and the North JXN hangouts were my thing.
The Dock, Main Harbor, the Cherokee, Dutch Bar, Recovery Room . . . and in later years W. C Don's and even Billy Neal's Spud & Sud's.
Ah . . . (the golden age of North JXN teenage drunkenness).
I won't say say anything about the Beer Barn Drive Through on Lakeland Drive . . . or bong hits at Mayes Lake.
But even as a North Jackson kid, I did get to experience cruising McDowell a few times.
Apple Ridge was something else.
It made Maywood Mart look like Sunday School.
@8:34 AM
Violent crimes were committed in the “old Jackson” too. If those criminals are dead or incarcerated, and the criminal element is worse, then maybe the “bold new city” needs to focus on the criminal breeding ground.
Just a thought.
105 at Woodbine and McDowell tonight.
