Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued a new Executive Order today granting all City employees up to six hours paid administrative ‘voting leave.’ The leave policy allows city workers time to vote in this November’s election without having to worry about losing pay while they do.
“We believe in doing all that we can to remove any obstacles for employees seeking to exercise their right to vote,” said Mayor Lumumba. “Given the state’s limitations on voting by mail and other safer ways to cast our ballots, we have to prepare for extended wait times and other precautions in the wake of the pandemic. We did not want employees to be penalized for fulfilling their civic duty. This policy ensures that people are paid for their time as we navigate this new
‘normal.’”
Jackson joins a growing number of cities that have expanded their voting leave policies as they work to address coronavirus impacts on elections.

Should be a national holiday. Republican’s opposition is a slap in the face to working people and shows exactly who they fight for.
SIX HOURS? How long does it take someone to go vote? Anybody reading JJ need six hours to get from your house to the voting place and then to work?
Besides, if anyone has to be at work during the hours the polls are open, they are allowed to be able to vote by absentee ballot. This looks more like an effort by Baby Chock to pay some extra to the city employees as he enters into next year's election season and needs all the support he can buy, especially when using other peoples money.
Sounds like another of his radical new city approach - pay the employees not to work on election day, just like he pays many of them not to work on the other 364 days that they are supposed to be working.
Six hours? Bwa ha ha ha ha ha.
Sounds like buying votes to me.
Why should anyone be surprised? Labamba is a Democrat. Ninety-five per cent of city employees are Democrats. They are pulling out all the stops. I'm surprised he is not offering a half-pint of Hennessey to all employees if they vote.
The six hours is needed. Fifteen minutes to vote and 5.75 hours to harvest illegal ballots.
The polls are open 7:00 to 7:00.
Hey Antar, how many City of Jackson employees work 12 hours a day?
In Response to SIX Hours Post earlier have you ever seen a City employee work yes I'm sure it will take them six hours to vote. Remember they have to go to three of four different locations. It would look funny if thy voted three times in the same precinct
Little Chok had four years to get a water billing system going. Still cant get a correct water bill out. I say in four years you could start a water system from scratch and Have bills going out. But he has looked good On TV. Poor Jackson what have she done to deserve this.
@8:15PM, How many City of Jackson employees work period?
Most aren’t doing more than shovel leaning while there, so... Why Not?
6:57
How do you know he’s not?
Jackson Public Works may be laying off some employees, because an engineer has invented a shovel that will stand up by itself.
Hay Shad, is the Mayor's plan legal?
@5:48 When dems talk about the “working people” or “working class” they are actually referring to people who don’t work.
It’s a six hour time block allotted for the end of tour. Assume that everyone doesn’t work the same hours and the six hours are staggered for coverage.
I don’t believe that is legal. Cities are only allowed a certain number of paid holidays per year. If the city is already using them, then they cannot add another one. Perhaps Chocky will eliminate the Christmas holiday, being that Christian thing and all.

"Jackson Public Works may be laying off some employees, because an engineer has invented a shovel that will stand up by itself."
Liar. I invented that years ago. Just soak the wood handle in Viagra!!
Something of value is being given by an entity (City of Jackson Chief Executive) for the purpose of enticing someone to perform an action at the expense of taxpayers who ... mostly I presume (Shad can run the numbers) ... do not approve; sounds like vote buying to me.
" But he has looked good On TV " .
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . . . some say.
This man is well groomed for his unique "look".
But his appearance is negated when he starts talking.
But his constituents seem to like what he says.
They elected him . . . and I can only hope they are happy with him.
Sorry everyone, I hope I'm wrong . . . but I doubt Shad will do anything with the City of Jackson.
"Working people" and "working class" is dem "code" for welfare queens who are capable of working but would rather take the free shit from their plantation masters (dem ruling class).
Come to think of it . . . I doubt Poppa Chok would have granted six hours off to vote.
Maybe four and a half hours of paid leave . . . but not six.
It can take most of a day to cast your vote, when you do so at each and every precinct.
Do they have to bring a note from momma that states that they did vote Democrat to get paid?
