Worried about Thanksgiving this year? Never fear, the CDC is here. The Center for Disease Control did what bureaucrats do. It issued a whole spanking new set of new-fangled Covid-19 guidelines for Thanksgiving just in case you are thinking of having that big turkey dinner since Kentucky Fried Chicken is closed. The CDC guidelines are posted below.
Thanksgiving is a time when many families travel long distances to celebrate together. Travel increases the chance of getting and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others. If you must travel, be informed of the risks involved.
- Having a small dinner with only people who live in your household
- Preparing traditional family recipes for family and neighbors, especially those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and delivering them in a way that doesn’t involve contact with others
- Having a virtual dinner and sharing recipes with friends and family
- Shopping online rather than in person on the day after Thanksgiving or the next Monday
- Watching sports events, parades, and movies from home
- Having a small outdoor dinner with family and friends who live in your community
- Lower your risk by following CDC’s recommendations on hosting gatherings or cook-outs.
- Visiting pumpkin patches or orchards where people use hand sanitizer before touching pumpkins or picking apples, wearing masks is encouraged or enforced, and people are able to maintain social distancing
- Attending a small outdoor sports events with safety precautions in place
- Going shopping in crowded stores just before, on, or after Thanksgiving
- Participating or being a spectator at a crowded race
- Attending crowded parades
- Using alcohol or drugs, which can cloud judgement and increase risky behaviors
- Attending large indoor gatherings with people from outside of your household

Really wish the smart folks would hurt up with a treatment. There’s a whole lot of dumb folks that are killing everyone. If only it killed the dumb ones I wouldn’t care too much, but they’re the ones most likely to survive, further ensuring our decline into idiocracy.
Less than 1% of those under the age of 69 who contract COVID die in the USA. Time to move on from this madness. Be mindful and put in place measures to protect the elderly, and severely immunocompromised, and let the rest of us work, play, and live.
People with COVID are now doing a lack of taste and smell videos on TikTok for fun. COVID has jumped the shark.
So we're back to an Rt of 1, which is a lagging indicator. And Reeves gets to speak at the White House and loses all his balls. What idiot would now go mask less?
See the Kosciusko freshman football player in critical condition? The teacher on a vent? Yep. One month in. Cooler weather. And the 2nd wave is going to kill another 200,000.
But an election has Tater selling out. To the White House. To corporate elites in their out of sight football parties.
Tater- total sell out.
Communist propaganda in our best interest for the upcoming holiday season.
A lot of commenters in here with Down syndrome. Most folks survive that too, but I sure wouldn’t want to live the rest of my life with all those negative health affects, even if it doesn’t kill me.
Long term complication rate of greater than 20% in those that survive a Covid infection. Heart problems, trouble breathing long after they’ve “recovered,” neurological problems, etc., etc. But I guess if it doesn’t kill you or anyone you care about, assuming you care about anyone besides yourself, then it doesn’t matter. OPEN ER UP
It is true. Close family gatherings are one of the worst places to have a superspreader event. People are too comfortable around others they know, get close together while talking, and otherwise do things that are of the highest risk. One asymptomatic infected person could easily pass the disease on to more than half the attendees.
Stay safe and use some common sense. The virus doesn't take the holiday off.
Good thing these guidelines have come out. I now have an excuse for not hugging my mother in law.
I love that they recommend staying home and not gathering in large groups... so you can watch a parade (which is literally a large gathering of people) from your house..... **eyeroll** I'll be having my usual family get together....
@9:18 and all other members of Team Apocalypse:
Fear and panic. Overreaction. It is not the 'elite' who are being hurt by the lockdowns, it is the worker, the small business owners, the children who are missing their educational opportunities, and the elderly who are isolated and intentionally abandoned to die alone without the comfort of family who are suffering.
They suffer and will continue to suffer to placate your irrational fear and selfishness. All the while you claim with no evidence of mysterious and unproven 'long term effects' from a virus.
Shame on you and a pox on your house of fear. Wear a mask. Live in a bubble if you think best. Wash off your amazon boxes. But don't demand that the rest of us cower and wait for some miracle that may appear to ensure that we all live to be 120 in perfect health.
This pandemic has always been about chasing bad data with flawed testing that is always somehow going to spike in another two weeks while the isolated CDC and WHO demand greater control from behind the curtains.
People are morons if they heed the advice of that garbage. It'd be different if Covid had a 50% death rate.
Dear CDC, go f*ck yourself. We are all tired of the bullsh*t. Yes, I know the virus is real and people have really died from it. But, use some common sense about showing symptoms, contact with others who have tested positive, etc., and wash your damn hands before eating. Certainly don't expose otherwise compromised or vulnerable groups....It's really that simple.
We live in a rural area. There are currently 7 adults whom I have known all my life sick with Covid within a 2 mile radius of my house. They collectively occupy 5 different households. One has been hospitalized for a couple of days and then sent back home. ALL of them, except one, are related to each other, two of them are/were anti-maskers, and the sickest one of all is a healthy 35 year old male with no underlying medical conditions. I don't know about their children and grandchildren's status. I lost one childhood friend, age 66 years, to Covid a couple of months ago. I was her maid of honor at her wedding in the 1970s, and I will always miss her. Her husband and 5 children made the difficult decision to turn off the vent. She had no underlying medical issues but smoked cigarettes many years ago.
Get real, folks. In fact, 'stand down and stand by' for further BS from the White House.
Can someone explain it to me where I can understand?
It is good to have a state fair but we should not have anyone visit us at our home. In what world does that make sense? At least when we invite people into our home we are sure they will not steal our car when they leave.
It is very hard for me to understand how a state fair filled with people would be safer than a few friends coming by for the holidays.
As Ode to Billy Joe would say. Pass the biscuits please.
The way you catch this stuff is being around someone who has for an extended period of time close to them. It is very hard to pass it around if you just pass someone with it. With that being said just be careful, how hard is that. The anti mask crowd and the covid is a hoax group drive me crazy. You can live your life by wearing a mask and staying 6 feet from a person when you are talking to them. Just be smart. It is my right not to wear a mask and locked down, but is it your right to walk around with a virus that cause harm to others. Maybe it is but if you don't care about yourself can't you just care about others.
Stock up on Turkey and Dressing TV dinners.
That should guarantee a great 2020 Thanksgiving !
@11:36, bingo, you know a FAMILY with a genetic predisposition to a weak immune system
@1:11 I’m not responsible for YOUR safety, YOU are. It’s a big, scary world, crawl under Mama Governments skirt for protection
11:36, how fat are/were they?
Yup, ole Mississippi is gonna lead the world into the Extinction Level Event called Covid. Well, as I always say, you gotta die someday and you have no say how.
So, if the bill to require wearing a mask to vote in MS passes and you don't want to, will they interfere and deny you your right to vote. Bet that would make a great court case.

My wife gets tired of my Covid rants...but it is indeed humorous to say the least. Surely that’s the one thing we can all agree on. Try an imagine our young children of today looking back as adults at our purely unorthodox, laughable response to this “Virus”. Hopefully I’ll still be around to laugh with them.
@8:07pm - You likely won’t, you’ll die alone on a vent with that attitude.
@6:16 - There is no evidence whatsoever that members of the extended family involved have a "predisposition to a weak immune system", a meaningless term you invented out of thin air, and their grandparents lived well into their 90's in excellent health.
@7:21 - None of the family are fat. None.
Covid infection occurs regardless of the status of one's immune system and body mass index. The severity of the disease may be determined to some extent by how strong a body's immunological response to is and whether one is obese. Once again, covidiots are conflating transferability with severity of disease.
The reason so many of the extended family have Covid is because they congregate together for meals, they spent Labor Day together, their children (cousins) congregate together, they attend the same church where most of them sing in the choir, and several of them have refused to wear masks anywhere masks are not mandatory. I doubt they will all congregate together for their traditional Thanksgiving day dinner this year, which is the point of this thread.
Those of you who constantly wring your hands and act like hysterical titty-babies because the rest of us DO follow scientific recommendations about masking and distancing need to understand that we don't care what you do - you can go wallow naked in virus for all we care - but we will not be crossing your home or business thresholds or interacting with you because you refuse to take simple precautions to protect us. Go on with your lives and stop worrying about us.
"But, use some common sense about showing symptoms, contact with others who have tested positive, etc., and wash your damn hands before eating. Certainly don't expose otherwise compromised or vulnerable groups....It's really that simple." Yes.
Now we have fat older POTUS and everyone around him with COVID. Because the jackasses brayed we don't need no masks.
Hopefully he has a mild case and Pence stays clean. Otherwise we get President Pelosi. He shined his behind and showed us right?
And with the Dem turnout, we are facing guaranteed Biden Harris, a stacked Court, and Dem Congress. Guns gone. Socialism. Left Wing courts and laws everywhere forced upon us.
Cuz Covidiots ignorance and arrogance.
Thanks Covidiots. FreeDumb. Stay stupid.
6:16 The government does have an interest in protecting society from the irresponsibility of others who don't care about anyone but themselves. It's why we have things like DUI laws. Or are you fine with me drinking and driving and expecting everyone else who is fearful of me crashing into them to just stay home.
COVID has already killed more than ten times the number of people alcohol related crashes do in MS annually. Surely if 3,000 COVID deaths are acceptable then a few hundred DUI deaths are even less concerning.
That was sarcasm for the covidiots who think I was serious.
If masks are the be-all end-all of COVID, why does the fine print from the CDC for 'exposure' state:
While research indicates masks may help those who are infected from spreading the infection, there is less information regarding whether masks offer any protection for a contact exposed to a symptomatic or asymptomatic patient. Therefore, the determination of close contact should be made irrespective of whether the person with COVID-19 or the contact was wearing a mask.
The something is said in the county health department where I live: Exposure is determined by 'close contact' for a total of 15 minutes, masked or unmasked. If you are exposed you must quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure.
I'm not opining on whether to wear them or not, and I wear one as directed by my workplace and municipality. But, when people like Chris Wallace say 'just wear the damn mask' as he did this morning, it shows that they are following the political line of thinking... not the science.
11:02 Nobody is saying masks are the be-all end-all of COVID and they are obviously not 100% effective. However, as the CDC notes "masks may help those who are infected from spreading the infection". All that disclaimer is saying is even with everyone wearing a mask you still stand a chance (although reduced) of contracting the virus and therefore if you were in close contact with a known COVID infected individual you still need to get tested.
Seat belts and motorcycle helmets aren't 100% effective either but I wouldn't expect to see someone arguing they are worthless. Masks are the same. They are a tool to help prevent the spread but shouldn't be relied on to go back to taking risky behavior.
@11:36- what you’ve just described to us is pretty typical of a bad flu season. Seven people got sick, one was hospitalized for (only) 2 days...and ALL will survive. Surely, you’ve been around for at least one above-average fly season. And, as would have also happened during one of those flu seasons, people who spend a lot of time together, whether at home, at church, or at work are very likely to spread infections among themselves. And, as is typical with EVERY flu season, some unlikely subjects will die from their infections. Bottom line, there is NOTHING unusual about Covid-19 other than it spreads quickly because so few of us have antibodies to it. But in the end, it doesn’t matter whether your 7 neighbors got sick all in the same time frame or spread out over 3-4 months. The end result is exactly the same.
As for those who think they know the “long term” damage this virus will cause, I’d like to hear you explain HOW you know that. How can you POSSIBLY know that. Furthermore, the vast majority of the conditions THEORIZED to have been CAUSED by Covid were more likely just DISCOVERED because of Covid. Just because you didn’t KNOW you had a particular condition is not evidence that you didn’t have it for some period of time before it was diagnosed. In fact, that exactly WHY so many people die from heart attacked, strikes, diabetes and cancer. They were diagnosed too late....they didn’t KNOW they had a life threatening medical condition.

If they're above 25% body fat they're fat. That may not be Mississippi Fat according to the new HAES bullshit, but they are.
