First time over 1,000 cases in a day since July 30
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,322 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 12 new deaths. The total number of cases is 108,139. The virus has caused 3,152 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 94,165 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website.
The big chart stayed flat.

The data posted is crap! It is not representative of a specific day, especially weekends. Where is testing done on Saturdays and Sundays? Maybe at the McDonald's drive thru? "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce Corona Virus don't upset us!"
Get ready for waves of dead school children followed by another shutdown
11:06, moving averages are useful and I tend to believe that hospitals know how to report how many virus patients they have. Sooo, there's that.
yeah but how 'bout that state fair?
that’s the first week of the fair. wait until 10 days from now...
tate dropped the ball big time. failed leadership. covid 19 had become very controlled. not now.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Not to mention all of the "essential" football games........
~15 days after the mask mandate expires and the numbers go up. hmm nothing to see here gotta protect dear leader Donny and MUH FREEDUMS at all costs!
Don't worry though cowboy Gibson will make sure everyone is safe as they gather en masse on the fairgrounds!
Has anyone here looked at the curves in North Dakota or South Dakota or Wisconsin? Out of control moving skyward new case counts. We need to avoid that. Bring back the Statewide mask mandate so we can be assured our fellow citizens get the message to wear their masks and not expose the rest of us. Yes, where people avoid the discipline and cooperation to keep us all safe, we have no choice but to rely on the State to assist assuring our mutual health. Yes, Nanny State rather than dangerous, selfish, every man for himself, unhealthy chaos.
Cmon tater tot. Get your rosey cheeks on tv and tell us how not wearing a mask to the fair is a good idea. Make sure that cowboy hat wearing doofus is with you too!
I wish this nothingburger would live up to the hype. More than 99% survival rate makes this the LAMEST pandemic EVER!
The governor assumed, erroneously in hindsight, that the populace would continue to be responsible adults and maintain social distancing, limiting numbers of people who congregate and maintain proper hand hygiene. The numbers would suggest that the value of continued mask usage is not overstated.
Here's a poll: Raise your hand if your head would explode if Kingfish didn't post this same bullshit column every damned day. Not all at once now. Hold on, I'm counting...12..16...21...44...
@11:42
Two more weeks? And then two more? How many two's you got?
Too much confusion.
Who's data to believe? County? State? Federal? CDC? WHO?
Too much confusion!
What name do we call it?
Wuhan virus
COVID-19
Chinese virus
C-19
Plague
I need to go get in my fallout shelter.
I know people that were mad as hell when Gov. Reeves enacted and kept extending the "wear a mask" mandate. Now many of the same people are saying that he shouldn't have lifted the mandate. Go figure.
Crusin' the Coast (activities went on before Delta hurricane for sure, saw coverage on it on coast news), the fair (don't get me started on that one and the lack of masks, etc.), Canton flea mkt. (news showed most shoppers not in masks), sports, football games, etc., etc., etc. etc.
I am embarrassed of MS. We look like complete goobers.
Know of several 30 year olds it is passing through now who thought it was not going to hit them.
Just so embarrassed of MS. We can do better. We can't shut down and let the economy tank but we are smarter than this and can do better. The ball has been dropped on so many levels. It is just embarrassing.
Illinois with a radical governor and radical Chicago Mayor just posted its highest One day positive total in history. 53 more deaths. Many states are seeing big spikes. Just saw a headline. "London and Paris bring in strict new rules as cases SURGE across Europe." But but but that Tater Reeves he don't be no good. He be killing people.
I guess the idiot at 11:06 has never seen 1 of the 100's of medical clinics opened on just about every corner. They are open on the weekends. Think!
“ I am embarrassed of MS. We look like complete goobers.”

Hey maybe instead of clutching your pearls you might want to browse any news site and see countless other states (hell even Paris and London) are having huge spikes. It’s a flu. People are going to get it. Accept it and come out of your basement.
of course people don't want to wear masks. none of us could ever infect someone with a potentially deadly virus!
bottom line-how much do our federal or state tax dollars go to coronavirus treatment? (or federal borrowing on the already seemingly endless debt? ("tea party"--where did it go??)). so all this does is make some government entity spend more money on coronavirus treatment. OUR tax dollars (and grandkids debt!). I thought this state was all about small government and not relying on the government...
First time over a thousand cases since July?
Not quite. It's the most we've had since August 19, when MSDH reported 1,348 positive cases.
I can only imagine the self imposed fear that some people must live under. Unbelievable. These posts reveal the repercussions of a people void of faith in a higher power.
@2:24, no, goobers are the dumb New Yorkers and Californians locked down in their houses because an elected dipshit told them they couldn’t leave. Over a virus that has a 99% survival rate. Government PLEASE SAVE MEH!!!
I honestly don't know what to believe anymore.
But our Agriculture executive ( Andy Gipson) said on Supertalk today . . . " the biscuit booth at the State Fair is safe" .
"Very safe" .
So . . . I'll eat a biscuit and watch the baby pigs run around in a circle.
Granted, I haven’t been to Crusin the Coast or the State Fair, but I did go to an SEC game and everyone was wearing masks in common areas and social distanced in the stands.
And when I go to Kroger, Walmart etc people are still wearing masks for the most part.
I don’t need the government to tell me to wear one and it seems the majority of adults that I encounter feel the same so I don’t really see why Tate is to blame?
Maybe we all need to stop expecting a former bank teller to advise us in a pandemic and just be responsible for own health?
“ I am embarrassed of MS. We look like complete goobers.”
3:08 PM
Well 3:08, I'm not sure how long you've lived in the Sip' . . .
But we can change on a dime any given day.
On a Monday many Mississippians look and sound brilliant, Tuesday through Friday . . . we look worse than "Hee Haw"or "The Dukes of Hazard"
William Faulkner to Buck Owens & Roy Clark playing " Pickin' and Grinnin' "
Now that's diversity !
I agree with 5:17.
To 4:10: God gave us brains to use, too, so I think He expects us to use them.
I made no mention of intelligence in my post, neither did I allude to education or reasoning ability. I pointed, quite accurately, that many were in the grip of fear. Intelligence, education, or reasoning ability doesn't appear to be helping the faithless with their fear. It also, appears that those that think themselves more intelligent, educated, or with superior reasoning ability express the most fear. That being the case it should be recognized by those that are truly intelligent, educated, or with superior reasoning ability that something more is required. I simply pointed out the something more, Faith. Faith in a higher power will help alleviate the fear. Don't put your confidence in man who will let you down. I'm afraid in your case I'm too late.
Forgot to say, we actually put on shoes . . . (sometimes) . . . when we venture down to Middendorf's at Pass Manchac.
Many of us will change out of our overalls, if we decide to drive on down to "the city",
(AKA New Orleans) .
A "positive test" is not an infection, even though the TV tells you it is.
People keep saying 99% survival rate. That's simply wrong. The overall survival rate is about 97%. If you are in your 70's-95%, in your 80's-92%. Still good odds you'll survive but again, if too many get it at the same time and hospitals are overwhelmed, the mortality rate will rise. But even at an overall mortality rate of 3%... If 100 million people get this... 3 million people will die. And for those that say this is like the flu... it's not. the overall mortality rate for the flu is <0.1%.
Just wear a mask. Wash your hands. Stay home if sick. Keep a reasonable distance. It's not hard.
Why do I see it stated there is a 99% survival rate when if you do the math fully 3% of known cases result in death and a significant percentage result in devastating illness and often enough long term effects. Repeating over and over misinformation about the virus is dangerous and inexcusable.
@12:25, Yes, at all costs.
@Jacksun, Okay, 97% survival rate. I’ll walk into any casino in the country and confidently throw my life savings on red if I knew there was a 97% i would win. This isn’t the Black Death, this is a lower respiratory infection that goes supernova IF you have a weakened immune system from age or a host of co-morbidities, Even in the instance of advanced age, there is STILL a 95% chance of survival. When have we shuttered the country, crashed 50% of businesses (and “coincidentally” approved the continued operation of big box retailers, claiming that going there is totally safe.) When did we force people from coast to coast to wear a face covering (anything really will work, shitty surgical mask with gaps around the temples, cheeks and chin? Panty hose will even work, as long as you are wearing The Talisman.)
When is the last “pandemic” we had that required a massive, coordinated media and corporate PR campaign? Why does this plague require every business advertising on tv to push the fear porn? “Drive through our drive through and we will have you put your debit card in a basket that everyone else card has been in, using my gloved hand I've touched everyone’s card with, it’s safer!” Since when does a virus with a 97% survival rate require the pizza boy to place your pizza on the porch and run off like he’s playing ding-dong-ditch?
Why does this virus need communist slogans like “Alone together” “We are in this together” “Build back better” “Reset the Table” (funny how the covid crisis also requires we stop eating meat and increase taxes to mitigate climate change) “The new normal.” “Safer at home.”
This is literally a planned transfer of wealth from small business owners to big box stores. This IS a worldwide attempt for medical, corporate, government and technocratic entities to take complete control of us peasants. They outright tell us this, blatantly, nearly every day. Bill Gates himself says openly that you “WILL take the vaccine” and that “things won’t go back to normal until we all have the vaccine” and that “you don’t have a choice.” Why did the Health Minister of Australia slip up and say “New World Order” when he was trying to say “this new world of covid” during his address on 10/10? Why did clearly planned riots kick off right after most of the country had locked down and people were sitting in front of their TV for 8 hours they normally wouldn’t? Riots led by COMMUNIST Antifa.
YOU may be fine with that. There are millions of younger people like myself who are not. We will NOT live like cowards. We will NOT allow communism to take over this country. There are millions of people like myself, old enough to remember when America wasn’t full of nanny state loving, government worshipping boot-lickers and WILL return this country to the values that make us Americans. Thank us after we fix this shit. Or don’t, just sit in fashionable The Fondren and enjoy the half-caff while we protect you. Others are responsible for your safety nowadays aren’t they?
I guess none of the 230,000 USA citizens nor the more than a million world wide had faith that God wouldn’t let them get Covid-19 and die...
6:16: You are discounting totally, as if it were nothing, the suffering that the survivors, their families, and all those who had to quarantine because of them, go through. Yes, 3% survive, but many fall ill, some with lasting consequences with recurring brain fog and neureological symptoms because covid becomes a blood borne disease reaching the small vessels.
Chris Christie just said this morning, after spending 7 days in the hospital with his life in the balance (imagine what his family went through), that he regretted letting his guard down in the Rose Garden and indoor receptions, and in the debate prep, letting his guard down, not wearing a mask or distancing from others. Christie said it was "wrong" and that he "regretted it".
Covid is a serious disease. It is not a nothingburger, but a real issue for our health care system and our people.
Correction: That's 3% die, not survive.
Any proof of life and negative COVID results from Tater and fam as of late? Hmmm...
7:29 p.m., this is 6:35. I actually agree with everything you wrote, except that last personal snark. My point was that some folks seem to hide behind faith as a justification for willful ignorance and inaction, and I think that is folly.
To equate someone's death with lack of faith shows great ignorance of the scripture, or a deviousness to attack. The scripture is plain when it comes to death, it is death for all. It is an appointment that all will make and after that death, a judgement.
The faithless fear death. There is that word again fear. Carnal knowledge will not help with fear, faith will.
I don't want to get too personal here, or reveal too much. In January of this year we lost our oldest daughter. Totally unexpected. You can discover how real your faith is at the most unexpected time. My heart was broken for myself and those that loved her, but at the same time I had the comfort of believing that she was in a much better place. In July of this year my wife of 43 years contracted covid. 35 days in the hospital. As I said you can learn how real your faith is. I can't speak for anyone else friend, but I believe God. In God I have faith and fear does not control me.
