Rez Opens Monday

Rez parks & sandbars remain closed.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District issued the following statement.

Boating and fishing on Barnett Reservoir will resume on Monday, the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District confirmed after Governor Tate Reeves’ Friday morning press conference related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In announcing a week extension of his “shelter-in-place” order, Reeves relaxed some parts of his original order that expires at 8 a.m. on Monday.

“Today, the Governor said he would allow lakes, including Barnett Reservoir, to reopen to boating and fishing on Monday morning,” said John Sigman, General Manager of PRVWSD, the state agency that operates Barnett Reservoir. “The change only includes boating and fishing and boat ramps, and does not allow the reopening of our parks and other day-use facilities. That includes sandbars.”

Social-distancing restrictions related to boating and fishing announced by the Governor will be in effect on Barnett. That includes maintaining at least 6-feet of space between people on boats, at boat ramps and bank fishing, and no gatherings. Boats will be allowed to carry no more than two people, or half of the maximum occupancy rating for each watercraft.

Due to shelter-in-place restrictions, no tournament fishing of any type will be allowed on Barnett Reservoir until further notice.

Sigman said Lakeshore Park, Old Trace Park, Lowhead Dam Fishing Area and Pelahatchie Shore Park will remain closed, as well as the dog parks and disc golf courses at Lakeshore and Old Trace parks. The Spillway Fishing Area will open Monday morning.

PRVWSD had good news for boaters on the lower lake and Pelahatchie Bay areas. “We are happy to announce that when the lake reopens Monday, boat traffic between the main lake and Pelahatchie Bay under the Northshore Causeway bridge will resume,” Sigman said. “Boaters will notice the new boom materials in place and new channel markers that will allow safe passage.”

Boat traffic at the bridge has been closed since Oct. 20, 2018 due to the outbreak of the invasive plant Giant Salvinia. The overlapping design of the boom allows for boat traffic while blocking the floating plant from escaping on wind or water current.

Funny how we look at this as the end all of life. Person in another post stating that I am irresponsible because I mentioned how nice it was to drive to work and stop at a fast food restaurant to get food and coffee dealing with an employee less than 6 feet from me. That being his concern, why didn't the Gov shut down all fast food drive throughs. Seems there is no logic. The so called virus is just that, a virus that will go anywhere it wishes to go masks or no masks. Quarantine is when you restrict the movement of sick people, which is what should have been done from the get go. Tyranny is when you restrict the movement of healthy people. Again, be safe.

Guess I need to fire up my party barge and buy some beers

Just go ahead and drain it!

Best decision possible. Plus main lake to P Bay open. Good work.

But, cue the freeloader who doesn't even pay to fish whining about "2 peeple. That's stoopid. Blah blah blah."

Again, as KF wrote, if it wasn't for the smooth brained drunk partying and spreading this crap, it wouldn't have to have been closed.

This should have been the policy from the get go. Excuse of boaters piling up at the ramp and not enough enforcement personnel to maintain policy on the sandbars was BS. Same for the burn ban. Implemented one day for the health and well-being of people and not to stress the volunteer fire departments and then gone a few days later. HORSE HOCKEY! (Don’t give the excuse of storm debris, health of folks is as important now as it was a week ago.). Tate switches back and forth worse than a sidewinder on a sand dune.

Hell yeah!

Go congregate and smooch and slap each other’s asses.

April congregators bring May ventilators

12:14 PM It might be you spreading "this crap?" Stop blaming others it not right and plus it is hateful.

Clintons, I’ll agree with you as soon as you can identify 95% of the infected people before they are contagious. As it is now at least half of people shedding the virus have no idea they are literally killing other American citizens.

I heard there were layoffs at Horne this week. True? And Baker Donelson also made cuts, right? If so, sid they keep their timber promoters when they did their layoffs?

Amen to 2:20 pm. The burn ban was implemented to control people on a holiday weekend, not for any true fire or health purpose. The government does not trust the people to act responsibly. Enforce laws on the irresponsible individuals, not the honest and responsible citizens.

You bubble boys who are lecturing everybody else about how they aren't doing enough to stop the virus, please remember you need to change your gloves every 15 minutes and through them away. You're keeping your hands clean but spreading the virus to everything you touch.

4:28 with the Laws for Thee but Not for Me. Honest and responsible citizens generally obey the law. But, you're the exception to the rules, I'm sure.

Cletus, if the GubMint could trust people to act responsibly, there would be no need for laws or law enforcement.

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

Stop EXISTING in fear! There are no guarantees in life. You may get sick, you may also be killed by some idiot texting and driving. Take the precautions you feel necessary and go on with your life. If one chooses to lock themselves away out of fear that is their decision but let those of us who choose to live life do so as well.

General Sigman continues to have little orgasms any time he can announce restrictions on the public.

Don't be fooled by his insincere 'We're pleased to announce...' posturing. No, he is not.

PS: The 'casual fishers' along the bank line on the Trace never slowed down, some in groups with grills and games set up.

@6:52 How do you feel about laws prohibiting texting and driving? Do you believe they are an infringement against personal freedom, or are they a reasonable restriction on an action that unnecessarily endangers other innocent citizens?

Kingfish can NOT stand being called out.

@10:14 Don't ask the Bubble Boys that question, we already know the answer. If they are afraid of a virus that was massively overestimated, you know they are afraid of everything else. Bright side, the future for you who teach their children to face their fears is much brighter with so many now teaching their children to run from their fears.

I hope the white perch and brim are still biting because I got an itch that only delicious sunfish can scratch!

10:55 is going to defeat a viral disease with mental toughness and will power. Please report back in a month or so and let us know how that worked out for you.

Why 8AM? If you are going fishing in the morning it's best to get on the lake by daylight. I haven't had time to go fishing in about 40 years but I well remember being at the Rez at daylight many times. How about it fishermen?

Anonymous said...

@8:04 PM - true, but the bureaucrats who wrote the order grew up having the "hired help" catch and clean their fish for them, so they don't know squat about fishing.

Anonymous said...

Baker Donelson did NOT lay off anyone.

Anonymous said...

If you haven't had time to go fishing in 40 years, you're about 38 years late in paying for a time-management coach.

So cool today, driving along the Rez on the Trace and seeing maybe thirty five boats, all half a mile apart. Hope this pleases you idiots who predicted 'rednecks gathering at boat launches'.

Meanwhile: Foursomes in close proximity dot the putting greens. Maybe beer kills the virus. Oh, wait! You can't catch this stuff unless you're in a group of ten.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
