The Madison Poh-lice Departmetn issued the following statement.
Over the past several days, Madison City Hall has received numerous complaints from citizens alleging the violation of State of Mississippi Executive Order 1477, issued by Governor Tate Reeves on April 24, 2020, particularly alleging that the Family Barber Shop, located in the City of Madison, was conducting operations prohibited by Section I(h)(ix)of the Executive Order.
Consequently, on April 28, 2020, at 1:20 PM, the owner of the Family Barber Shop was served written notice by the City of Madison that such allegations had been made and that further violations could result in penalties as set forth in Miss. Code Ann. Section 33-15-43.
No official charges have been lodged against the owner of this business at this time.
Kingfish note: Do I need to spell it out for this knucklehead? Take your tools of the trade home. Call your regulars. Go to their homes. Charge extra for the convenience and risk. This is not hard.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Remember when people were afraid they might get AIDS from getting a haircut?
Every person I see who says keep it shut down is still earning an income because if you had been without a pay check for a month or so you have to work. If it’s risk health or feed my family I would be beating the door down to work. I have been there and it’s a terrible place to be. This will negatively effect people for years to come.
Madison should be ashamed. Let the Gov Send in the highway patrol as they are State police and he issued the order. I can go to Kroger and Walmart and ACE hardware without any restrictions. If people have to work and people need the service it’s time to let it happen. If your are scared stay home.
I'm not really sure which is worse, murdering thugs in Jackson . . . or sissy men worried about barber shops in Madison.
Your papers,,, pleazzze
Shut the F up Kingfish. People only trying to make a living and feed their families. It's no more damn dangerous than going to the grocery store or Lowe's with a hundred plus people there on top of each other walking around. It's naive or stupid to think you would be less protected at a barber shop with one person around you than the dozens of people walking and standing around you waiting 15 minutes or more to check out. It's asinine.
Damn Kingfish, why didn't I think of that. Great idea.
Snitches get stitches.
This is so stupid and such overkill. Let those that want and need to work do so. Those that want to stay home or do otherwise,,,that’s their choice too. This guy was 100% within his right to open up and serve and keep his employees working.
Kroger is right across the street from his shop with thousands of people going through there each week.
Wish he would have told the queen to f--k off.
But, of course she would have ordered her SWAT team to attack.
Love all these comments from folks who are normally law and order, conservative individuals now saying that if one wants to flout the law, he/she should be able to do it at their own will. When folks on the west side of Jackson decide they can shoot their guns in the air (not worried about where the bullets land when they come back to earth), or run around with their pants at their knees, they scream and holler about where is the law to put a stop to those individuals doing what they want to do.
No, this isn't about one's health and risking what they choose to risk - the shelter in place order wasn't meant to stop people from getting sick but to try to control the spread.
And anyone that can't see the difference between going into a big box store and purchasing some lumber and sitting in a barber chair inches away from the one doing the cutting - for 15 or more minutes, you probably don't care to open your eyes. You would just rather bitch.
And - by the way - the MS Highway Patrol is not the "State Police". That was set in place back in the 50's and remains the fact today. Highway Patrolmen have no authority to arrest someone in the city of Madison, unless they are driving on Highway 51.
KF is right. if the salon is open, perhaps someone could take the virus home to family that does not approve of a family member getting a haircut. if the barber goes into a home, everyone is ok with any potential risk.
otherwise--you might unknowingly infect someone else.
in a few weeks the reward will outweigh the risk, but for the next two weeks its not worth it.
or cut your own hair. suck it up snowflakes.
People can lose their license for doing hair in their homes during the quarantine, apparently. I’m sure Family Barber thought about that option before you did.
Karen out here turning folks in while she and the girls have drinks, swim in the pool, play tennis, and the children roam the neighborhoods in packs. This is unconstitutional and I bet he could fight it as shaving beards and cutting hair was one of the first things the cdc said would help prevent the spread and contraction of the commie cough. I would have told them where they could go. This is a major overreach.
CAN.NOT.BELIEVE.IT !!!
Dunno if Mary was impetus behind this?.. or not? But the pivot begins with this crap!!
Please,,, I hope she wasn't!!
I go there once a month. I know Mike personally and he is a great man. When did we become such a nation of pansies and snowflakes. Kroger and Walgreens is open. Walmart and Costco and sams are open. I’m sure we can still get haircuts without dying. Hell, I’m sure I could even open carry there if I wanted to.
This is so dumb. What a waste of energy and concern!! If there were “less than 10” gathered (also dumb) then WHO CARES!!!
My husband’s barber came to our house and cut his hair in our garage 2 weeks ago because of these dumb rules.
We have a son who lost his (good) job. The company he worked for went bankrupt, with no financial reserves and he got two weeks severance. He has a wife and two kids, Jr High and Junior in College.
I have a hard time criticizing anyone who wants to stay in business and provide themselves (and perhaps their family) with enough money to pay their house payment.
I'm already sick of people asking "Doesn't he get unemployment?" Trust me, that check won't touch their bills. Thank goodness, he has 401K money he was setting aside to supplement Social Security in about 20 years. That is disappearing, both for bills and as the stock market crashes.
Perhaps our country will make it by giving young people Trillions in debt to pay in taxes. As for me, I see nothing but pain for the next 100 years. Assuming we don't all die from Corona, or the next viral mutation.
Hardware stores are open for the essential workers who need them. Not for your bullshit DIY projects and landscaping.
The Madison SS Police. Hey, they have the same brown shirts as Hitler.
Remember, you can buy clothes at WallyWorld, but not the boutique. You can hang out in Kroger or Lowe’s, but not inside McDonalds.
Masks may or may not filter the virus that can enter your body in your eyes.
And you must stay 6 feet apart even though the virus is blown 30 feet via a sneeze or cough and all across a store in an AC system.
Everything we’ve been told about the virus is a wild ass guess and putting business out of business.
Yep but you can go to the liquor store.
I hope he opens his shop back up! This is so ridiculous to fine him. People need to work !
Not for your bullshit DIY projects and landscaping.
You must be a dues paying member of Fat Melvin's perpetually disgruntled club.
I think the lockdown was appropriate but also applaud this man’s decision to open up. Didn’t act like a protesting fool at the capital. He just said, “if you want to challenge my right to earn an income, come stop me.” I hope he opens back up if he feels strongly for the cause. He’s not infecting unwitting customers.
I pose this question to the gubernor and those that will jump to his defense. WHAT is going to be different for Barbers now as opposed to 3 months from now? No cure, no daily immediate result testing and hair still growing!
Mike is a good man and supports quite a few workers. Good for him. I’ll get my hair cut there ASAP.
I support the city in this one. That owner is being stupid.
I have said for years, pass enough laws, issue enough proclamations, have the right policies in place, and every citizen will be an outlaw. Looking like we may have arrived.
I am sure the City of Madison will prorate his property taxes! NOT.
Make everyone wear a mask high risk stay home and lets roll
Most of the high risk are retired or on disability so lets keep them at home and slowly start rolling out this thing before the Democrats get used to these checks every week
KF, it's a $5,000 fine and loss of license for barbers/stylists to do what you are suggesting.
How about people take responsibility for their own lives. If y'all don't want to go to a barber, DON'T FUCKING GO TO A BARBER!
Can you say NANNY STATE?
It's call PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! The guv's order is unconstitutional.
Read AG Barr's memo regarding this: https://www.justice.gov/opa/page/file/1271456/download
@ 7:26 - Us young people are already paying a trillion or so in student loans. What's a few trillion more, really?
KF makes a great point, and the lady who cuts my hair has already started doing this. Just had mine cut last week. I didn’t mind paying her a little more for her to come to my house. Plus, I extended more of a tip to her than I usually do, and it was well received. She mentioned that other stylists, barbers, etc. are doing the same thing, and some believe that it will change their business practice post-corona. “If you can’t come to us, we’ll come to you.”
I truly hope all of you against the Nanny State are prepared to vote for the medical marijuana ballot initiative in November. It's time we got a lot more freedom in this state like those to the west. Not to mention the job opportunities.
Madison,Ms consists of the Have's and have not's. BrownShirts can take you're personal property, violate the Constitution of the United States, take your personal property, guns included, and without due process, just steal it without any accountability. City atty. Hedglin knows when you have this on inside home Video Camera that Brownshirts better not show up again at your house unless there is a major Felony, unless they want the evidence of their violation of due process,as in stealing your stuff to be brought to the citizen's attention. This is Illegal and wrong.
People should mind their own damn business and get on their knees and ask God what they should be doing to prepare for the real hell that is coming.
Wake up people...it's obvious none of us know if anything we hear from our government or media is true. Right now we're facing food shortages - they're slaughtering hundreds of thousands of cows, chicken and pigs, not to mention plowing under fields of vegetables (which you have to dig around a little bit to find this information because MSM isn't reporting on it.) Why is our country (and the world) systematically being broken down...what is the real reason behind it? The answer is spiritual - there is a cosmic war taking place and we're caught in the middle and will have to choose sides. We have entered the end days.
That being said, if you don't know Jesus and He is not your Lord and Savior, it is not too late to remedy that problem. We all die, the question you should consider is what happens with you after that?
I pray you all come to the knowledge of the Truth.
Martin Luther King says there is nothing wrong with breaking the law if it is for the right reason. Fauci says stay at home. He's just plain wrong.
All these opinions aside, what is the point of a Police Department, under the authority of a Police Chief who answers to a Mayor and Council...Issuing a press release about something as trivial as this?
You all know damned well who issued the order to send out the press release.
"Us young people are already paying a trillion or so in student loans. What's a few trillion more, really?"
You got gypped if that's an example of your education. It's WE young people, not US young people. Would you say 'Us are paying?'
Really? Please check on a refund.
Ask the governor who is cutting his hair!
He should have waited a few days just to keep him and the employees from fines/harm from violating the order. Yes, it stinks. It makes no sense to be able to open up retail and be able to go buy something trivial, rather than go get a haircut. I disagree 100 percent with how Tate Reeves has handed the "safer at home" thing. How can those in retail that have gone back, keep 6 ft away? You can't. We should be open or closed not a little here, a little there.
Anyway, in all seriousness, there are mobile dog hair cut business that do "quite well" financially in charging for cuts. This would be great for someone to do with hair and go to the customers. I have never heard so much people fussing about no haircuts, roots, or coloring, long hair, etc. Your choice is wait or buy a pair of clippers/scissors and do it yourself. When life gives you lemons make lemonade. Someone could make a good living right now doing mobile haircuts and delivering items to people's doors. There are still some folks staying home, especially the seniors/compromised. If I was a barber or cosmologist, I'd be going to them if it was possible.
10:57PM, unfortunately the trillion or so in student loans you “young people are already paying” is nothing compared to what’s in store for you years from now.
If enough in your generation ever do wake up and realize what my, and the generation before mine has done to you, please remember this:
Just as we do not want to stereotype every millennial as lazy, entitled and still living with mommy and daddy in their late 20’s and beyond, since every millennial certainly is not……
Not everyone in my and the previous generation was on board with the kick the can down the road total screwing that awaits yours.
The likely good news for the generations that have created the unfunded liabilities and print money as if there’s nothing at all wrong with doing so…is that the sheep public are far too ill-informed to understand basic mathematics, and almost nobody these days understands the laws of nature.
Living among a bunch of Karens who not only helicopter their children, but also every adult around them, is enough reason not to live there. I'll take my chances with the thugs in Jackson. They mind their business.
Isn't that why the nanny state requires barbers to spend thousands on schooling and licensing? So they know how to sterylize combs? I think a licensed barber knows how to give a haircut without catching a virus.
It is illegal for a hair stylist to work from home. Who is to say the same people will report them also for this! If safety done. Heck Juicy Seafood on Riverwind Drive in Pearl has lines of people each day within 6 inches of each other waiting on food to pick up. Why are these businesses being cited! These people must feed their families or can also be liable for child neglect. Shame on all of you so instead of reporting why not offer food and money to pay bills for these employees!
“The Madison SS Police. Hey, they have the same brown shirts as Hitler.”
That’s a remarkably dumb comparison to make. Tell you what, you don’t think this is real? Go out without a mask and stop with the Purell, smart ass. Catch this thing with your beer gut and hypertension and have a look at your outcomes.
I lost someone close to me because of this thing, and I’m tired of people comparing saving lives to a police state. Fuck you.
This amounts to an illegal taking of this man’s business by the government. He should sue the state government for his losses. After all, that is what the former Secretary of State is doing to the federal government by suing for the taking of 16th section land in southwest mississippi.
@7:16 I am sorry for your loss. Every death is sad, and I truly wish they all could be prevented. The truth is we will all die at some point unless Jesus returns before we do. The virus is here and here to stay. Keeping businesses closed and shutting down every aspect of life is not going to eradicate it. We have to allow people the CHOICE to open back up and get back to normal life KNOWING there are risks that we choose to take as individuals. Nothing is risk free in life- it's just part of it. If you do not believe we are taking huge risks to our way of life and standard of living by shutting everything down, you need to re-evaluate. No person was forced to go to work or forced to come get their hair cut as each made a conscious decision and choice to do so knowing the risks.
Law has made it a crime to cut a head of hair in a barbershop.
Law is whats wrong, so many that have a working mind have decided the risks from the this virus is BS and hold the whole thing in scorn. People will die from all kinds of things, this is no different. None
The economic impact is on the way and it will hit like a loaded freight train hitting an econobox full of drunks.
I don't have an opinion either way about the barber shop up in Madison, because I decided about 15 years ago to stop throwing my money away for a haircut. After getting a bad haircut and waiting entirely too long for it, I learned how to cut my own hair and have been doing so ever since. I have save thousands of dollars and cut my hair whenever I get good and ready. I've had 2 haircuts since all this woohan virus shit started. Heck, I may cut my hair today. It ain't that hard folks; give it a try.
7:56 oooo ya you caught me.
You must be one of those cucks who’s working on a to do list from your ball and chain. I’d pay serious money to have an inspector shred the shoebox you call a home after your “repairs”.
Someone apparently turned in the barbers on the square in Canton. The IP are still doing hair in their homes as they have been for years. Usually due to inability to pass testing and/or money for a license. I just stay bald. no problem.
The bottom line is that Tater doesn't feel like "these folks" are shit and less than. Think about it, when you get a haircut or get your nails did you don't pay and you aren't charged state sales tax...Sure, they have to pay for their license and all that but that's it..I would be pissed if I was told I wasn't shit because I cur hair or whatever....
Barbers and hair stylists will lose their license if they practice in someone's home. You think they won't get caught? Look at all the people telling on them! It's not that easy, Kingfish!
Can someone give me a cell number for a stylist there? I need a haircut.
7:16 AM you sound like a drama queen or a Madison SS Police officer who is butt hurt.
@7:16AM, pull that bottom lip in buttercup, quit your pouting. Dying is part of living. You must really be a smart one if you don't know this by now.
The Governor's reasoning for keeping barbershops closed is that the barbers are in too close contact with their clients and thus a higher risk. But yet doctors can touch their patients and even cut them open for surgeries, yet that's ok. I understand that doctors can use PPE and take precautions, but so can the barbers. They can wear gloves and a mask when cutting your hair, just as a doctor can wear gloves and mask to cut you open during surgery.
@4:44 AM - "Ask the governor who is cutting his hair!"
Many are wondering the same thing. Several are also wondering if he is wearing make-up during the press conferences because he doesn't have that Rosacea look as in the past.
A haircut looks to be a good investment. I haven't had one in over 2 months. If this keeps up, we all might resemble those fraternity composite photos from the early 70s.
I haven't paid for a haircut in 10 years, because I am flat bald. I will get a haircut from Mike when he reopens. He's a good guy and I support him 100%. When is government going to load us on the train?
Considering that the usual planes have been circling low over Madison neighborhoods, during the entire "shelter-in-place" period, it would appear that plenty other individuals consider themselves above the law.
All of those who believe that the barber shop and beauty shop in the Congress is closed, please raise your hands.
In case you didn't know, those services are 100% paid by us, the taxpayers.
No hands? Still waiting.
Crickets...
@11:53 #1 - they'll be loading us on the trains sooner than most people want to know. Especially if you're a Christian.
It's time to stand up for these irrational rules. In Joe Biden's words, it's time for "Economic intercourse". Let's mix it up.
" In Joe Biden's words, it's time for Economic intercourse ".
Uncle Joe doesn't even know what state he's in on a good day.
I'm quite sure he forgot about all forms of intercourse many years ago.
Meanwhile, I drove by the Madison Kroger on Highway 51 at Hoy Road this afternoon. The parking lot was packed with cars and people. No one was wearing a mask (at least not that I could see from the highway) and quite a few of them were not more than 6 feet from each other.
Speaking of haircuts, I wonder how former Guv'nah Bryant is handling this ?
He was always proud of his daily "hair-do" .
" No one was wearing a mask "
A sheep speaks again.
It's all a lie. Nobody called to complain. Nobody reported this to the PoPo. Queen Mary ordered the Chief to put out a statement and her attorney drafted it. Like Chokewe, she wants the national spotlight.
I hope Mike moves to somewhere in Rankin.
Gawd knows . . . he has one hell'uv a customer base.
