Guest Gets Challenger

WYAB talk show host James Tulp issued the following statement yesterday.

Republican James Tulp will announce today that he will be running for Mississippi's Third Congressional District Seat in 2020.  He will be making his formal announcement on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:00 PM in the Welcome Center at First Ridgeland Baptist Church.  First Ridgeland Baptist Church is located at 302 West Jackson Street, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157.

James Tulp is a long-time member of First Ridgeland Baptist Church and will be making the announcement alongside his wife, Kelsey Tulp, who serves as the congregation's Children’s Minister.  The Tulps will also be joined by their infant daughter, Clara. James Tulp has lived in Mississippi's Third Congressional District since August, 2015.

After receiving a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Mississippi College, Tulp went on to become an adjunct professor at the school for three years in its Political Science department.  As an educator, Tulp was able to influence a large and diverse group of students with his affirmative conservative and populist message. At present, Tulp works as a political commentator, hosting a daily talk radio show in Jackson, and has contributed his message of positive populism to numerous area television and newspaper outlets.

“Unlike our current Congressional representative, who maintains GovTrack's seventh most liberal ideology record amongst Republicans and one of the worst overall leadership marks, I intend to make Mississippi proud with a strong populist stance and will make sure that Mississippians are actually represented in Washington,” said Tulp.  “When elected, there will be no doubt that my loyalties lie with my beloved brothers and sisters in my home of Mississippi.”

Tulp's message of positive populism includes a pledge to work alongside President Donald Trump in all matters beneficial to Mississippi.  Tulp will advocate for defined immigration reforms to ensure that American citizens are put first. He believes that life begins at conception, without exception.  Tulp will work to protect the 2nd Amendment, our nation's borders, and our vaunted veterans.

The Republican Primary Election for the 117th United States Congress will take place on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020.  The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.

More information on James Tulp and his congressional campaign is available at jamestulp.com, or by contacting Campaign Manager Jimmy Lawson at campaign@jamestulp.com

Campaign contributions may be made at jamestulp.com.  Mail correspondence to James Tulp should be directed to “James Tulp for Mississippi, 1060 East County Line Road, 3A-176, Ridgeland, Mississippi  39157.

I'm curious to see how Michael Guest handles a challenger.

James, DC is a meat grinder. I hope you have the fortitude. They aren't going to like you.

Mr. Tulip why not wait and run against Cindy Hyde-Smith or the other one for US Senate? That is, unless, Justice Waller decides to run for the USS.

Sayin' for a friend.

Damn, this really excites me! A talk show host that is going to make his political announcement at his church. Announcement going to say that current Congressman is a liberal, because he only has a 95% score on somebody's scorecard.

Please help me - gotta hold down my excitement over this upcoming intrigue.

So this Tulp guy, who never has been active, in anyway, in politics in Ridgleand or Madison County wants to run against a guy who had the best ground game of anyone in the state. Won his congressional race without needing the 83% of the vote he got in Rankin and was the DA for Rankin/Madison which controls 40% of the Republican vote. Obviously this Tulp guy has a mental problem.

Saying Guest is a liberal is laughable.

The liberalism of Mr Guest intrigued me, so I pulled up GovTrack’s methodology:

“ The data that goes into this analysis is a list of who sponsored or cosponsored which bills. The process doesn’t look at the content of the bills or the party affiliation or anything else about the Members of Congress, but it is able to infer underlying behavioral patterns, some of which correspond to real-world concepts like left-right ideology.”

Next?

Mr. Tulp, I really like your writings on JJ. They are far more insightful than the writings of Bill Crawford and Sid Salter. But this is a not a smart move.

This is going to be like Whit Hughes but worse. Having to quit your job as a radio talk show host that no one has heard of, put financial strain on your family just to get 10-12 percent of the vote in a congressional primary race to satisfy your ego and get your political fix. Need more popcorn on this one.

All the nonsense about him and his wife being such outstanding church members and what they do in church insures he won't get my vote...

Anonymous said...

Tulp is a brilliant political mind and absolutely has my vote. The GOP needs to go younger anyway. We need less lawyers in Congress.

Anonymous said...

Tulp will get destroyed and then run for something less powerful and then repeat that over and over until he is dogcatcher wherever he lives.

Anonymous said...

At least we know he's not easily intimidated. Pretty courageous move if you ask me.

What? I am SO SICK of people with their conservative yard stick!!! You are all ripping this country apart!
Michael Guest is a fine representative and should be re-elected.
James Tulp, you're a nice guy, but not leadership material. Best wishes to you, your fine family and your radio station.

Saying Guest is a liberal is laughable.

As would be referring to him as a conservative.

Anonymous said...

Guest has done nothing but good things, and anyone running against him is being fronted by someone else. Tulp is but a sycophant for dark money/supporters.

Anonymous said...

It was hard not to be inspired by James' announcement speech. He will do an excellent job representing the district!

Anonymous said...

@12:56,
Can you expand on these great things Guest has done?... I voted for him but, I won't again.

Anonymous said...

1:40 - No, it wasn't that hard.

Unless your inspirational level is way, way below the norm.

Anonymous said...

Hell yeah! Been waiting for an announcing party from the welcome center at FBC Ridgeland!!! Oh wait...or is it First Ridgeland Baptist Church? I so confrused.

Anonymous said...

Oh my... this is DEFINITELY the comedic relief I needed on a Friday that won't seem to end. Thanks, Mr. Tulp! We look forward to sending you off to obscurity once the race is all said and done.

Anonymous said...

Guest has done nothing but good things ...

What specifically has he accomplished? Surely you can enumerate them.

Anonymous said...

Moved here in 2000, have yet to meet 10 true conservatives. Big military, big government and lots of Pork, just say you are 'pro life' and you are a MS conservative.

Anonymous said...

And THIS is why nobody with any sense or intelligence runs for office and we get stuck with what we've got. No, I'm not talking about Tulp's announcement. I'm talking about the venom spewing from you posters simply because a guy throws his hat in the ring. Geez.

Anonymous said...

@12:56 - What good things has Guest done? I not saying he hasn't but I can't think of one piece of legislation he has introduced.

Decided to contact several elected officials and politicos/centers of influence in Madison County today, for giggles, to see who knows this guy. So far I’m drawing a big fat ZERO. Looked for social media presence, NADA. I do have one mutual friend who liked something he posted. That’s a start. SMH

11:32 Where does one find vote insurance?

Anonymous said...

11:51 You need to google less vs fewer and make fewer grammatical mistakes

Anonymous said...

What leadership qualities does Guest have? Politicians are not leaders. Anyone who was taught otherwise, it isn’t your fault. Time to educate yourself and stop relying on others to inform you.

Anonymous said...

Damn that left-wing Michael Guest. At last someone will stand up to the RINOs!

What a joke.

I see the seeds of a new Shawn O’Hara.

Anonymous said...

Embarrassing. Desperate. Sad. One of the most popular D.A.s in the State of Mississippi versus a glorified teaching assistant turned disc jockey. Let's see who wins this.

Michael Wolf said...

The best part about opposition is that it shines a light on our elected officials, and sometimes what you end up seeing is pretty good.

Because of his thoughtful nature, I am sure Mr. Guest will invite the chance to defend his record, which is easily defensible, and is very representative of Mississippi values.

If you haven't figured out yet, I am a very much a Guest supporter.
Because Michael Guest is the real deal, his political life and his personal life are as genuine as I have ever seen. He has stepped into his role with enthusiasm, energy, and an honest heart.

If having an opponent allows others to reflect on what Mr. Guest is doing, then they will be persuaded to vote for him again.

And yes, I will put my name to this...

10:19, Justice Waller won't run for the USS - no money in that for Josh. Only reason for Waller to get in the race was to give Frontier a chance to keep the gravy rolling on their train tracks - Senate seat won't grease those wheels.

Anonymous said...

Listened to Tulp's show today for the first time. He is the real deal.

Anonymous said...

Going to miss Tulp's show. Hopefully WYAB will put him back on the air if his campaign isn't a success.

Anonymous said...

The more people hear of Tulp the more people will like him. His only problem will be getting the word out. If he can do that he'll win.

Anonymous said...

Several before me have asked, but I've not seen it answered: what exactly has Guest done up there so far? I'm not anti-Guest in any sense, but I WOULD like for someone to show me something he's done. Being an ex-DA, I was hopeful he might get in there and become the next Trey Gowdy or the like. Unfortunately, he appears to be leaning more toward becoming the next Ross Spano (yeah, I don't know who he is or anything he's done either)

Anonymous said...

For those commentators questioning what Guest has done. How much do you think a junior congressman in the minority can do in a Pelosi controlled house?

Seriously someone with a brain show me the path to passing any bill under that scenario.

Anonymous said...

you never hear from guest. he just goes along to get along. typical swamp creature.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Chris McDaniel get his start on the radio?

And he came thiiiiisss close to going to Washington.

I don't see lightening almost striking twice.

Signed,

Hootchie Mama

Anonymous said...

How much do you think a junior congressman in the minority can do in a Pelosi controlled house?

He's getting the same amount done -- which is nothing -- as empty suit Gregg Harper did over 8 years in a Republican controlled House.

Anonymous said...

I'm undecided on this one but I will say Tulp has a very big and enthusiastic listener base. Might suprise you.

Anonymous said...

Tulp or Guest, neither one will have the ability to do much without Party support. Guest is a good man but limited in what he is “allowed” to do by the financial constraints of the party. Tulp needs to run for something local to get more name recognition. He’s wasting money here. Not being a good steward of other peoples money.

Anonymous said...

I'm very sad for his wife and baby. He will have little time for either just in campaigning and will have no time for them in Washington. Few young marriages survive.

Anonymous said...

He did vote against a spending bill backed by a lot of republicans and the president himself. Some may call that liberal, others may call it conservative. I call it not going along with the status quo. Since he’s been there, here have been very few issues to establish a track record.

Anonymous said...

Tulp will win. He will probably be senator one day and maybe even president.

Anonymous said...

Word on the street is Guest is really pissed at some of his staffers in the comms department. Heard he's interviewing several people this week while in the district.

Anonymous said...

My take-away, so far, from this thread is:

The same guy has posted about seven times asking for something Guest has done while in Congress and repeating over and over that Tulp will win.

A first year man/woman in Congress is still trying to feel around and learn process, decorum and who to be afraid of. And some goon expects him to have authored several bills to passage by now?

Meanwhile, on a related front, hopefully several Mississippians with good sense, energy and ability will challenge Hyde-Smith and send her back to the egg farm. So far all she has managed to do is receive four official notices from government offices that she sent to the media as press-releases. These things are automatically sent to senators and reps of the states to which they apply. Then junior players in those offices churn them out automatically to all state newspapers and TV stations.

Tulp is the modern-day version of the 'now forgotten' Matt Friedman over in Clinton who used to have a radio program and write articles which placed himself on the Cross along with Jesus.

Like a poot in a wind-storm, Tulp will disappear just as surely as Friedman did.

Anonymous said...

Everyone, and i mean EVERYONE who knows Tulp loves him. He's got that it factor. He's got my vote and lots of people I know.

Do not underestimate him.

Anonymous said...

Every, and I mean EVERYONE, who ever invested in schemes later found to be fraudulent, LOVED whoever sold them a line of shit. They're all smooth. This includes church leaders, bankers, CEOs, those with no-fail investment schemes and radio personalities who have close church ties. They all have that IT factor. Many are in jail, more WILL be and some won't be.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
