Edwards Mayor Marcus Wallace is running for MDOT Central Commissioner. The Madison County resident posted on Facebook:
Man o man, I humbly say thank you.... At noon today, I qualified to run for Transportation Commissioner and in the first 12 hrs the response has been absolutely overwhelming. Over 600 of you have responded in support of this campaign and I appreciate that. It is my goal to make this one of the strongest campaigns ever but I need your help to do that. We can do that by creating one of the biggest social media trends a campaign has ever seen. If over 600 have responded, just think if that 600 encouraged their friends to post, repost and encourage their friends to do the same. Help me make the social media, the streets and the ground response very strong....💪💪💪. I am teaming up with the best street promoters in the state to create an allstar street team. Every high school senior and college student should be registered to vote by the time this election in August. Fraternities and sororities, get with every school, college and university in the state and host voter registration drives. I am overjoyed from the response in just the first day. Website will be coming soon with more info. Thank you, thank you and thank you. Let's gooo!!! #WallaceforTransportationComm

Nice WIRE reference, Kingfish!
OMG! Allstar street committee! Disadvantage areas (his use of English), and a watermark picture of a transportation hub not in MS.
Grass cutting program!
Are we telling travelers that our towns and cities are open for business or 'their' residents? I'm confused.
KF... does he really live in Madison? Guess Edwards or Hinds Co. Dems don't care.
Wallace lives in Madison.
I can't see how he will be any more or less effective of a figurehead than the current figurehead in that highly paid elected commission. To my knowledge, Melinda McGrath actually runs MDOT, and she is an actual Engineer.
Will he promise a chicken in every pothole?
Enhance...
Enhance...
ENHANCE!!!
Go Wallace! Look at all he's done for Edwards. Well...don't look.
Which fraternities does he want involved? Pike, KA, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi?
I can see a conflict of interest here in some fashion. I know at one time MAC & Associates bid on a job for the right of way clearing on Hwy 18 in Brandon from 2014($66,000). He apparently is also in the street paving business, albeit incompetent. If he runs and if elected, will he dissolve the multi-faceted MAC & Associates? Seems they are into all kinds of public infrastructure work. I smell a rat.
Per the MS State Board of Contractors, Marcus Wallace renewed his contractors license 12-18-19. He is a certified remodeling contractor, per the MSBOC. How does a remodeling contractor think he has any aptitude to run the dept of transportation? So this remodeling contractor has been involved in patching pot holes, installing the Seimens water meters(that don't work), and has stiffed some of his subcontractors to the point the bonding company called the bond on the Capital Centre Improvements Project. Seems like the kind of guy we need up there. I hope anyone running against this huckster points this out to everyone, not that the people who would vote for him would care about any of this.
@1:31 PM
Contrary to popular beleif, the Highway Commissioners do not run MDOT. They are little more than figurehead who attends gatherings and promote MDOT. He also appears on TV commercials and takes thr heat for mistakes before the legislature.
They have no need to qualifified, they make no real decisions on anything really. I don't know if any of the current commissioners are even Engineers.
MDOT is run be the Executive Director, Melinda McGrath. She is a bona fide Engineer.
@2:26. Incorrect. The Commissioners determine what work what MDOT can and cannot do and give the Executive Director her powers - ability to sign contracts, approve change orders, and determine if employees get paid. The Commission also elects and can remove the Executive Director at any time.
If you can find a Commission Agenda on their website, take a look and see what an Executive Director can and can’t do.
1:31, according to the MAC and Associates website, he's a lot more well rounded than you give him credit for:

"With a B. S. in Marketing from Southern University A & M College, Baton Rouge, LA, he is the founder of The Wallace Group, Sports & Entertainment Firm, has been a Sports Agent for professional athletes in the NBA and NFL, managed recording artists in the music industry and promoted concerts and comedy shows, and has extensive experience in the communication and transportation industries."
In keeping with "The Wire" reference, "Omar Coming!"
@4:34pm... yet he decided to forgo the lifestyle of a professional sports agent to pave roads and be mayor of Edwards. Right..,
12-18-19 is a ways off.
@ 9:03, I apologize as I mistyped. It was renewed on 12-18-18 and expires on 12-18-19. Still his MSBOC licensing states he is a remodeling contractor. I wonder if he could sit and pass the test for road construction?
Did they call his assistant and ask if he had a certificate saying he is qualified to be a Commissioner??
Where’s Wallace, String?
Willie Simmons is thinking about running. At least he has some experience in the legislature. Wonder if any Republican will give it a shot?
Owning property and living in Madison County yo two different things. Just saying.
Sounds like a lot of hatred, envy and jealousy to me. Don't be fooled. Mr. Wallace has more support that you think...
