Jackson Ward 4 Councilman DeKeither Stamps is running for the Public Service Commission. He announced on Facebook:
Our paperwork is filed and we are excited to work for your vote in becoming your next Public Service Commissioner for the Central District. The seat would pass from Cecil Brown to Mr. Stamps. Check out his thoughts on economics in this post from last year:
After much prayer and deliberation I filed papers to become your Public Service Commissioner for the Central District. I want to ask for your vote, support and prayers as we begin this campaign together. Please help us Build Our Economy Through the Utilities.
Jackson Ward 4 Councilman DeKeither Stamps was in rare form last night on WMPR. Hell, I'm not going to deprive you of your fun by giving away what he said. Just listen at 3:20 for 90 seconds or so and then at 16:50 for a couple of minutes. You simply can not make this up.
Remember, he gets to vote on a $300 million budget every year.

I know him personally and I think he would be great.
at 16:50 You are right Kingfish, he doesn't have to make it up.

what that has to do with him running for office, I don't know but I'm glad he is helping to dispel the whitewashing our history.
This guy said on a public radio show that black people were in Mississippi before native Americans. Did I hear that right?
He would be a train wreck.
"what that has to do with him running for office, I don't know but I'm glad he is helping to dispel the whitewashing our history"
Not really with him running for office per se, but dig this. Stamps is upset people with "the 1%" or whatever for being more advanced, more technological, more efficient than the community mom & pop stores and "taking" over and distributing "their" wealth from "their" community and giving it to the 1% or so. The coorelation between this and his comments on the native/slave issue is this: Why is that group of people not in charge or running the USA like he wants? In history the party of people that is more advanced, more technological, more efficient typically rules the land. USA, Africa, Eastern Constantinople, doesn't matter, that's the way humans and the world as a whole work. You can not regulate or vote to change that fact. Back in those days the world was barbaric and not PC like today. If a party wanted to rule the land, they had to be willing to test their might against the other parties wanting to do the same. 99.9% of the time, the strong survived. If I am wrong, prove it to me.
16:50 my jaw is on the floor.......
He is a racist jackass with mental issues. Welcome to Jackson people here are your leaders.
Someone wants a pay raise!
I started listening at 16:50 and now I know he is delusional. I have not heard such drivel in years. PLEASE, if you have any thoughts of voting for this "Native American" listen to his comments starting at 16:50.
Give him a break, every nationality/ethnicity/tribe has their own myth or legend about coming to North America first: Italians, Chinese, Vikings, etc. Actually an explorer with mixed African heritage is pretty well documented to have explored parts of North America around Columbus's day. Again, who cares.
Tell you what else, not only were the Africans trans-Atlantic sailors with a highly developed trade network, they also explored our solar system. I predict there will be mummified rastafarians found on the dark side of a little-known Jovian moon -- along with several rap CDs and plenty gunja. No foolin'
When Stamps says that 1% of the population is having a negative effect on the remaining 99%, I believe he is part of the 1%. Is he redistributing his wealth?

Link?
As much as I'd like to see this jack-wagon off the Council, I'd hate to foist him and his foolishness on the entire region. He won't have my vote.
4:30 for the win. Can we stop the comment-period now?
@ 2:15. That's a nice speech but he's not going anywhere.
There really should be more stringent qualifications for PSC, such as being able to spell "electricity".
Stamps is in good company. Our own Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, when he's not busy leading people in separatist "Free The Land" chants, also likes to spout the same kind of afrocentrist garbage as Stamps. Check out the book "They Came Before Columbus", explains it all. It comes recommended by Antar himself.
The problem is that when people like stamps believe that Every place is like his ward in west Jackson they feel that they can win. He doesn't understand flowood, Madison, northeast Jackson or any other areas. He can't win. Bottom line is he would be horrible and he's known as a rasist clown.
Who really cares who got here first? I can tell you who won't be here last, productive citizens.
This is throwing a wrench in Cecil’s succession plan
For the record, I think it’s a fair to say that Mr Purple would not have voted for Kemper and would have called MS Power out all along the way. So he’s on the right side of that issue. More than the others “who have experience” can say.
He has a good chance at winning. So get ready.
All you folks sitting two miles outside of Jackson, laughing at Jackson, just remember that the whole metro area is about 15 years behind Jackson and the state as a whole is no more than 30 years behind Jackson. Just like Jackson, the educated folks are leaving this state and as the productive people age out and the young educated people move out, this whole state is doomed to look like and be run like Jackson.....under qualified leaders dealing with a rapidly declining tax base. May not be 2019, but some day soon a DeKeither will win state-wide office. Heck, it could be somebody far worse than Dekeither....Graham, Lumumba, Shuler-Smith, or heaven forbid, Derick Johnson. Sadly, the qualified black democrats will also have moved on to greener pastures, just like the ones who have moved out of Jackson for Madison and Clinton.
"What is the problem with his comments? They are factual."

I wouldn't discount any ancient migration and discovery theories. I study climate cycles and there may have been times when ocean currents could've allowed west Africans to cross the Atlantic with or without sophisticated navigation abilities. There are also cycles of solar minimum and mini ice ages that have allowed all manner of migration.
Finally, there is the crust migration theory of Dr. Charles Hapgood that cataclysmic pole shifts caused rapid movements in the tectonic plates. This could've allowed ancient Africans to cross a land mass that no longer exists.
The reality is no matter when or where they settle, sub Saharans struggle to build or maintain functional societies.
@9:45
You are absolutely spot on. Jackson is now a city of very poor and very wealthy families. The eastover area crowd that sends there kids to Jackson Prep st Andrews Jackson academy and several that send there kids to the northeast for boarding school. Mean while they go to Oxford on weekends in there condos or the beach house on gulf. Hell... there kids are fleeing the state in large numbers and it's too bad as they're the o rd better educated. I hope my 2 sons get out of mississippi as well.
I do believe the central district is slightly majority black?
@ 6:23 I hope your two sons can use "there" and "their" in a sentence correctly.
How many people live in Eastover? A couple of hundred at best.
Attn 6:23 I hope your children are being educated because, apparently from your writing skills, you are not.
at 850----hmmmm I wonder what %age of property taxes these "couple hundred" pay to/for the city of Jackson?
I am sure Mr. Stamps will be able to explain to the voters how the knowledge and experience he gained as a Councilman dealing with the City's two utilities, those being our stellar water and sewer systems, qualify him for the PSC post.
