Duck-hunting with a .380? MDOC issued the following statement.
A woman’s claim of duck hunting at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman over the weekend led to the seizure of a gun and several other contraband items and her arrest along with her companion.
Rachel Ann Maddox, 34, and Rodney Pierce, 27, a probationer, both of Greenville, are facing three charges in connection with the .380 semi-automatic pistol found with two loaded magazines, tobacco, cell phones, cell phone chargers, and alcohol in Maddox’s Ford Ranger near Unit 32.
Maddox and Pierce allegedly were attempting to get the contraband into the prison Saturday morning when her truck became stuck in the mud. Maddox got out of the truck, waved down a prison security van and alleged that she was duck hunting and needed help moving her truck.
Prison officials questioned Maddox’s story and subsequently found the contraband. She and Pierce were taken to the Sunflower County Jail.
“I am most appreciative of the diligence of our staff who thwarted an attempt to introduce contraband that could have been detrimental to the operations of the penitentiary,” Commissioner Pelicia E. Hall said.
Maddox’s bond was set at $25,000; Pierce’s at $100,000. At the time of his arrest, Pierce was on probation for burglary, receiving stolen property and (two counts) grand larceny in Washington County.
The charges and punishment are as follows:
· sale, possession, or use of alcoholic beverages within correctional facility (§97-31-35), which carries a maximum $10,000 fine, a minimum two years in prison and a maximum five years, or both;
· possession of prohibited items on prison grounds (§47-5-192), punishable by a maximum one year in prison or a $1,000 fine, or both; and
· two counts of introduction of contraband (§47-5-193), which is punishable by a minimum three years and a maximum 15 years or $25,000 fine, or both.
Of the contraband seized, there were 21 bags of tobacco, seven cell phones, 14 cell phone chargers, three pairs of head phones, six gallons of alcohol, two quarts of alcohol, and 1 bottle of gin.

I wouldn't
I'm not sure what the problem is. Duck hunting is not only about killing birds. There's bonding, getting all cozy on the marshside. There's an element of killing time -- what better way than twisting up a couple roll your own's, sipping a little hooch and waiting for the ducks to glide in. The cell phones are for calling your broker, wife, therapist . . . .
If this guy was some hotshot lawyer or gynecologist nobody would think twice but just because he looks like a person with problems everybody's up in arms. Classism. The ruling elite live by one set of rules; everybody else by another. Not fair.
as for the woman and the duck hunting defense, she at least has on camo pants and rubber boots. however the dead giveaway is the guy. in 50 years of waterfowl hunting ive never seen anyone duck hunting barefooted.
looks like they had the goodies in a slotted decoy bag. proof that after season as bad as this one, people be finding another use for waterfowl hunting equipment.
rachel....rachel......rachel...... take it from and old time duck poacher. when you get you truck stuck , hide your birds , guns and equipment , or in this case the contraband, way up in the bush and then hike out. come back later that night with another truck so you can pull out the first one and retrieve your equipment and/or contraband. works every time.
3:42, yes you would.
"If this guy was some hotshot lawyer or gynecologist..."
If this guy was even a Butler Snow lawyer or UMMC gynecologist, he'd probably have both better taste in, er, "hunting companions" and the spending ability to attract one.
If she's hunting ducks with a .380 I damn sure don't want her shooting at me.
Ooooooooweeeeeee! That’s some crack heads!!!!!
Duck hunting with a .380 automatic pistol. Must be an expert marksman
"in 50 years of waterfowl hunting ive never seen anyone duck hunting barefooted"
I have seen that. This is Mississippi.
She is cute enough that she will get away with acting like she didn't know. He is a goner though.
Side note, does MDOC not have a mug shot room? That's a mighty nice chair she is sitting in. If I was her lawyer, I'd start a good story about that chair and get a plea deal. How freaking unprofessional
There is not a poster on JJ that would not hit that. If yall were too good to hit that, you would not be posting on here all the time about BS.
They both appear to be experienced in the consumption of drugs. Perhaps methamphetamine or fentanyl. Perhaps they were paying off a debt or assisting a relative inside.
Meths a hellovuh meth.
@4:12, maybe I already did!
to the wise ass at 5:18....... what you saw was some green teeth killing wood ducks out of season. probably in july.
When someone goes duck hunting they have a black lab. Duck hunting is a rich mans sports. These two look like they came from a trailer park in Yazoo city.
SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
That there are people in this shape walking on this earth.
What was the probable cause here?
Probably in cahoots with PuhLISHA to cause a shut down and scream for more officer pay cause she doesn’t have enough. Officers. But that might not be transparent
That’s just an outreach ministry from the Chrystal Methodist religion.
She looks like Casey Anthony.
She must not be too much of a risk - has her handcuffed hands in front of her, while her guy is either handcuffed with his hands behind his back or he is scratching his butt.
Hmmm... wonder if they'll add federal wildlife charges of hunting waterfowl with other than steel shot? That can carry more serious consequences than some of the other charges. Oops, no, guess that won't work unless they happened to have a federal game warden with them.
8:17 - You idiot, it was 65 degrees in January the other day. More than a couple of people go barefoot in that weather. I've see folks wading barefoot and in shorts, while legally duck hunting in mild weather during duck season. Others do it temporarily just while retrieving ducks or decoys in order to keep their boots dry. I've done that, in Dec.-Jan., while legally duck hunting in MS. Go back down in your mama's basement.
Prison will make them *strong*...
Policia be most appreciative and all. Maybe she can do an investigation and let us know how somebody was able to enter prison grounds with all that contraband.
457, don't know when you last visited Parchman, but the 'prison grounds' include 22000 acres, many of which are leased to farmers; not fenced and roads traversing them. Nowhere did I see that they were stuck in the mud inside of the fenced grounds that are restricted
