JPD issued the following statement.
Jackson Police are investigating a fatal shooting
that occurred at the corner of Green Avenue and Robinson Street. It
happened just after 7:30 am this morning.
Officers originally responded for a call of shots
being fired. When they arrived, officers found a black male lying near
the corner suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to an area hospital
and in very critical condition.
Officers learned from residents in the area that
several shots were heard minutes before the victim was found. A dark
colored sedan believed to be a Nissan, was also observed leaving the
area moments after although it remains unknown who
occupied that vehicle.
Officers later learned that the victim had
succumbed to his injuries a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The victim is believed to be in his mid-20s, however his identity has
not yet been confirmed.

I bet it was done with a legally obtained firearm. This "legally" obtained firearm threat can be eliminated with more gun control legislation, thus lowering murder rates. Oh wait, that 16 y/o kid can legally obtain a firearm, it can't be a stolen or dirty gun. Wake up Mr. Mayor, most of the guns in these murders are illegally obtained through drug deals and services swaps, not legal gun dealers. Fix the issue of Judge Green letting your buddies clients off with a slap on the wrist and maybe this problem will go away.
I think Jackson is on a record pace for homicides (having a murder roughly every other day so far this year). I recently read an article in the NYT about a crime waive in Puerto Rico. Apparently, decades ago, Puerto Rico used the National Guard to quash a crime wave in San Juan. San Juan is seeking assistance from the FBI to curb the violence now.
At what point does the State of Mississippi say enough, and take over the police duties of Jackson? I suppose it would take an emergency declaration and the assistance of the Guard, the Department of Public Safety and the federal law enforcement agencies.
It seems that all arrest would need to be made by the Feds so as to avoid the corrupt and incompetent Hinds County Judicial System.
On that note, can the Governor or the Supreme Court or Legislature remove sitting judges from the bench for incompetence (like Kidd or Green)? What steps from the State level can be taken to remove RSS from office?
This is not a laughing or flippant matter.

It is really sad when you can't stand on a corner to make a drug deal, select your next robbery victim or stand watch over your gang's territory without getting shot.
Mayor needs to enact a city law to make illegal for robbers, drug dealers, gang members, carjackers and those out on bond or parole to purchase guns or use a gun they might already have or borrowed from a homey.
Boom! Problem solved!
This is not going to get fixed until Republicans lose control of the state and federal give. Until we have some competent leaders, the pain will continue.

Unfortunately for the victim of todays murder, the cameras and the real time crime center weren't yet in operation to quickly call an ambulance.
A few years ago there was a move to have the State Capitol Police extend their jurisdiction to the Belhaven area. That might be something to reconsider. Their jurisdiction could over downtown through Belhaven, possibly up to Fondren. There would need to be a special state-appointed judge for is area also. Obviously, they would have to hire more officers.

In addition he wants these killers to talk through their issues rather than pulling a gun. Chuck has a plan for all problems. But never implements them because they are crazy. Updating my post at 12:21: : that murder occurred at 11 pm. The situation at 11 pm was 1 dead and 2 serious condition. Another has since died according to WLBT.
That's 4 dead on 1/16.
And remember, the left has revised history to blame all of Jackson's problems on white flight. You should all feel guilty for not sticking around to sacrifice your children on the altar of progressive diversity.
I don't even care how often they kill each other as long as they stay on their side of the river. I don't go into Jackson after the sun goes down. My concern is how often they come to our safe towns where we shop and eat and live
When they come here to commit crimes and then they get caught because we watch them. It's averaging three times a week now that they steal and run. It's very troubling to be out in Flowood with my children and the police chase them back to their city.
Its those damn too young to drive kids sporting around "military-grade firearms" ever since Open Carry green-lighted them to do so. Or so Antar says.

Jacksonians and want to cry racial profiling and prejudice but when many of them come to visit our neighborhoods they don't know how to act. You can act as ignorant as you want on the other side of the Pearl River. But when you cross into Rankin County it is like you are visiting our home. And there are plebty of law abiding black citizens of Rankin County who would appreciate your civil obedience ad well. When you act a fool it reflects poorly on them in many ways. We will welcome you but please act right and then get back home safely. That's for both our sake.

Some bloggers here should be ashamed. Your efforts to be funny and to mock and to trivialize this murder (and every other metro Jackson homicide) as if this were a game show are vile and repulsive. Who the hell says "Next" or "Toss and Turn" or refers to a "butcher bill", or "their side of the river", etc. when human lives and families and our community are being devastated? What goes on in your dark hearts and sick minds? Look inside yourself. You are not funny. You are not amusing. You are not contributing to society with your reckless callous comments. You need help, seriously, spiritual and medical help. I suggest you get on your knees and talk to our Creator, and then go get counseling, now.
I know the aunt of the young man who died. His mother and family are devastated. They are grieving his loss. The young man was 24 years old, native of Jackson, had gone to Provine, and was employed locally. I don't know what set this murder in motion, and I didn't know him or know whether he did right or wrong or was a good guy or a bad guy. But I do know that he is now very dead, gunned down, six shots, murdered in our community, left on the street to die, and that is very sad regardless of why it occurred. Unfortunately, he was not a member of the lucky sperm club that would have him born into the right family on the "right side of the river". Please show some respect for this man (and all other forthcoming homicide victims in our community), and show some compassion for the loving families grieving their loss. Please strive to be a part of the solution to the crime that is tearing our community apart rather than contributing to the further decay of our society with your wasteful, hateful, foolish comments.
