JPD issued the following statements.
(#1) Jackson Police are investigating a fatal double
shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Teakwood Drive. It happened
just before 10:00 pm last night.
Officers were called to a residence there for a
shooting. When they arrived, officers found two male victims suffering
from multiple gunshot wounds. One was located in the driveway of the
residence and the second was found a short distance
down the street. Both victims died at the scene.
Officers learned from several individuals inside
the residence where the incident originated, that the victims knew each
other and had a verbal altercation just prior to the shooting. One of
the males exited the residence and the second
male followed. Minutes later, the individuals inside the residence
could hear multiple gunshots being fired. Based on evidence at the
scene, it appeared that the victims fired multiple times striking each
other as one of them ran before collapsing a short
distance away.
The victims have since been identified as 28 year-old black male, Kameron Virgil, and 34 year-old black male, Elizahwon Burns.
(#2) Jackson Police are investigation a fatal shooting
that occurred in the 2300 block of Coronet Place. It happened just
before 7:00 pm yesterday evening.
Officers responded to the call of a vehicle
accident. When they arrived, officers found a small white truck that
had left the roadway and crash into the yard of a residence. Officers
then found a white male suffering from multiple gunshot
injuries, who later died at the scene. Several holes were observed on
the driver’s side of his vehicle.
Officers learned from witness accounts that the
victim’ vehicle was stopped in the road a short distance from the
accident. A second, light colored vehicle was stopped near the victim.
Shots were then fired and the victim sped down the
road crashing shortly thereafter. The suspect vehicle followed and
several black males were observed running to the victim’s vehicle before
quickly returning and fleeing the scene.
The victim has since been identified as 60 year-old, Mack Pope.
Kingfish note: This brings to mind the poem:
One bright day in the middle of the night,
two dead boys got up to fight,
Back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf police man heard the noise,
came and shot those two dead boys.
If you don't believe this story is true,
ask the blind man, he saw it too.
There were four homicides in Jackson yesterday as another one took place on Green Avenue yesterday morning.

1:34 Why don't you just tell us?
Assuming 100 murders for population of 80k we are pound for pound more dangerous that even the most dangerous city in the world. At some point black folks are going to have to own this. And blaming it on "whitey" ain't cutting it.
I'm starting to believe some judges must own some interest in funeral homes because business is booming
All Hell is going to break loose during the Long Hot Mississippi Summer!
This AM councilman Aaron Banks said he is most concerned about the innocent man that died at hands of JPD... 2nd he's concerned with crime and thinks it's a budgetary issue. This is how you know he's a poor choice for leadership... blames it on budgets... more money!!! He used the word "mo better" are you kidding me mo freaking better. SNL couldn't write a skit as funny as his live interviews. He's a true low IQ moron.
Crime is a 'budgetary issue'? That could be code for 'We need more grant money infused into the city budget in order to dole it out to the impoverished neighborhoods and appoint more Project Managers'.
We all know that poverty is the cause of crime and poor people are simply criminals at heart anyway, so the way to deal with that is to 'raise them up'. I'm slow and it took me awhile....but, I got there.
It's the culture, stupid. Money, programs, candle-light vigils ain't gonna do a thing. It's part of the culture.
Yes, we are all well aware that councilman Banks is far from a mental giant. Hard to believe he is willing to go on camera. Better to remain quiet and let them wonder than to speak and let them know your a moron. Banks could use that for future advise.
But wait, this is councilman Banks: Pastor and spiritual shepherd, a teacher of teachers, ministerial and business visionary, motivational speaker, political consultant and grassroots organizer Aaron B. Banks is known for his gift to empower and mobilize people to prove what is acceptable unto the Lord.
