Oops?

Got to watch what you say when everyone has a smartphone, as the junior Senator from Mississippi found out yesterday. The Daily Caller reported:

Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith explains in an uncovered video that she has been refusing to debate Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel, her GOP challenger, to prevent him from receiving free airtime.

“I love debates, but right now my opponent does not have enough money to get on TV and my guys were saying [debating him on TV is] like handing him a $200,000 campaign donation,” the Mississippi senator said. “He’s way down in the coals and he’s wanting the TV time.”

The video secretly recorded Hyde-Smith while at a private-meet-and-greet over the weekend, according to The Daily Journal, which first obtained the footage....

Watch the video here.

About time something happened.  This race was getting a little too boring.

Cindy may be surprised at how much support McDaniel ends up getting at the polls that matter.

Anonymous said...

I'm no fan of CHS in particular but what would her opponent even try to challenge? For a Trump supporter, he doesn't seem fully on board. There are bigger issues than this current race right now. I can't believe I'd ever say this but #ImWithHer

Anonymous said...

So she isn't afraid, she just doesn't want to give airtime, makes sense to me.
But just maybe she's the one who needs the airtime, a McDaniel win would be like the truck driver, all over again.

Anonymous said...

I think she's in for a big surprise.

Anonymous said...

You can tell from the questioning that she was set up. I just don't understand why she wasn't prepared with a better answer. "I'm busy being a Senator" "I'm busy making sure Kavanaugh is confirmed" "I'm doing the work of the people and my voting record now and in the state senate speaks for itself." "It's unfortunate that my opponents campaign has stooped so low as to call me a democrat and Hillary supporter"Etc. She should have been prepared.

Didn't you mean 'way down in the polls'?

Anonymous said...

Voting for McDaniel in the General and the surviving Republican in the runoff.

Anonymous said...

3:56 - I can answer your question: because she isn't Senate material.

Anonymous said...

McDaniel is going to allow Espy to get elected. McDaniel has no chance of winning this race. Just one more reason to hate Chris McDaniel.

Anonymous said...

CHS or CM should step down before the election- Otherwise we will all be saying Hello to Senator Epsy!!
I dont want Cory Booker nor Maxine Waters to be my senator!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Chris supposedly wasn't invited to the stump speeches in Clinton this past weekend, but showed up anyway. His people were pushy.

Anonymous said...

She's a hick with no talent or conviction for anything but political survival in Mississippi.....just another Old Mississippi retread. It truly would be something if McDaniel were to unseat her....it is a possibility, and will be voting for him.

Anonymous said...

4:25 I think you could have just said you don't want a black Senator and dropped the charade. Own it.

Anonymous said...

Should the runoff be Espy vs McDaniel will Espy pay me to vote for him? Worked for Thad.

Anonymous said...

I grew up in Mississippi but now live in Alabama. I'd suggest the state get this one right. Have ya'll ever heard of Doug Jones? Seems Mississippi is about to repeat our mistake.

Anonymous said...

Mississippi is in a real pickle. McDaniel is no prize, and Espy avoided jail time by the skin of his teeth, and Ms. Smith...the United States Senate isn't the State Fair...'nuff said.

Anonymous said...

This shouldn't be about votes or money, Mississippians deserve to hear what any candidate has to say in a debate Especially one that has never been elected by Mississippians.

Anonymous said...

5:02, this is not 4:25 but I will say I don't want a "Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian" Senator regardless of his or her color.

As for McDaniel, odds are very high he CAN NOT beat Espy so we will see if, even after two SCOTUS picks, Mississippians are still too stupid to choose the turd with the least stink (HSmith) verses cutting off their noses to spite their faces with McDaniel as Never Trumpers were willing to do.

Anonymous said...

CHS is a disappointment. I will be voting for Espy. My second choice is McDaniel who is off the rails but at least he would not be a puppet like CHS.

Anonymous said...

@ 5:53

CHS is a disappointment ... but Espy is not?????
LOL

On second thought, there ARE other words suited for Espy ... all negative.
I'm SURE you actually know them.

Anonymous said...

Haley is the puppet master in this whole deal. He is pulling the strings on all of our state officials as he sits in his office in Ridgeland. He even tells Phil what to do. So, Eapy...Mike “Tyson” Espy will not make it, even though he is there with Haley. It ain’t gonna happen

Anonymous said...

re: the “Espy escaped conviction by the skin of his teeth” lie, here’s Wikipedia:

The defense rested without calling any witnesses, stating simply that the prosecution had not proved its case. The jury deliberated less than 10 hours before finding Espy not guilty on all [30] charges. One of the jurors stated "This was the weakest, most bogus thing I ever saw. I can't believe Mr. Smaltz ever brought this to trial." At least four other jurors echoed this view, though with softer words.[20]

Anonymous said...

Well, she is absolutely correct. Truth hurts. And I'm not even in her camp, but she is right. Hell, I'll give her a point for being frank and honest about the matter.

Anonymous said...

HSmith as a Mitch McConnell puppet certainly beats Espy as a Chuck Schumer Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian puppet.

Repubs have got to stay smart as with the election of Trump. Dems have never worried about integrity getting in the way of who they elect; as with their continued election of Leftist Teddy Kennedy 40 years after he killed Mary Jo.

It's a war and the Senate must stay RED; HSmith is the only way for Mississippi to do it's part.

Anonymous said...

Somebody needs to get one of them out of the race.

Anonymous said...

This is all Phil Bryant's fault.

He is insecure.

So he picks puppets.

Then he wonders why they have trouble getting elected.

95% of those reading this have pre existing medical conditions.

Of those so afflicted who choose to vote for a Republican - I can say it’ll be nice when your financially broken and physically dead.

That way you cannot contribute financially or electorally to Republican madness re: health insurance coverage.

Espy will be far better for Mississippians than any other on the slate on this issue.

I hope Mike wins...so we can keep access to health insurance and health care.

The rest of it is just bs

Anonymous said...

CHS is a light-weight...and everyone knows it. She’s not ready for prime time and her “guys” know, so they’re trying to run out the clock. I never thought I’d say this but I’m voting for CM. Mississippi can’t afford a quiet low level Senator. At least CM would stand up and fight for us. If she wants it so bad, then go fight and debate. Show some spine. Otherwise you look like a scared weak woman. Fact.

Anonymous said...

Chris McDaniel is unfit to be a US senator. I wish we had better choices- but we don’t.

I love a Senator who can wrangle a heard of cows, fix the picket fence then change out of her wranglers into a 1980s power suit and lead this country. Go get em Cowgirl

I know several McDaniel people and they are hard working earnest folks. It is just, to me, he is not what we need at this time. It is fine with me if our Senator gets along with McConnell. As long as they vote the way the majority of Republicans in Mississippi want. I still believe you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar and Cindy is certainly honey to Chris' vinegar. Just don't believe Espy would win in a run off with either one, but I've been wrong before. Turn out is always a problem in a run-off.

Anonymous said...

Chris won the first primary against Cochran. He will also win this one.

Anonymous said...

Trump's vinegar is cleansing some things quite well. We need some McDaniel vinegar to do the same in Mississippi.

Anonymous said...

Am I the only Republican that thinks is an embarrassment to our party and to our nation? I was a Republican before it was cool. Being endorsed by Trump is not a thing as far as I am concerned. McDaniel is a complete joke— a throwback to the days of white sheets and voter suppression. This time I will vote for Espy and hope in 2 years the Republicans can have a candidate I can support.

Anonymous said...

@ 7:13, I love Wikipedia...always good for a laugh. And 8:57, keep believing the health care bullshit, insurance does not equate with access, and can you afford the astronomical deductible? One of my friends in a Doctor and he quit accepting patients on those plans because he NEVER got paid.

Take Off The Mask Cindy.. said...

5:49 - Where the hell do you get this? "As for McDaniel, odds are very high he CAN NOT beat Espy". Please validate your odds. That's nonsense. The runoff will be between one of the republicans and Espy. Republicans outnumber democrats in Mississippi by a wide margin. Tell us about your 'odds'.

I'm still amazed at the number of voters who actually think this thing will result in republicans splitting the vote and sending Espy to Washington. That is an impossibility. If one of the three does not get 50% plus 1 vote, there will be a runoff between the top two, no matter the party.

As to the race issue, I do not want a democrat senator. We already have a democrat representative who has not brought ONE job to this state in 26 years. The democrat in this particular race just happens to be black. I didn't make that happen. But, regardless of color, I will not vote to send a democrat to Washington.

Hyde-Smith and her handlers (and Bryant) have lied and lied about her background as a farmer and life-long conservative. I believe she calls it 'Rock Solid Conservative' now as if that's some sort of buzzword-code.

She has lied about who she supported in the Obama-Clinton contest. She says she doesn't remember. Does she also NOT remember being a lobbyist for Obama's healthcare plan ten years ago?

Anonymous said...

McDaniel folks need to step back and think just how completely stupid “Never Trumpers” were with their willingness to directly or indirectly send Hillary Clinton to the White House instead of voting for Trump; and how completely stupid Alabamians must feel having sent a Democrat to the Senate.

Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarianism is ruining our country. Just think where we would be today if Clinton had made the two SCOTUS appointments instead of Trump. The 1st and 2nd amendments would be melting away as fast as an ice cube in a microwave running on High.

We are at war and even the ACLU (“ANTI Civil Liberties Union” as Democrat and Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz so correctly puts it) has said to hell with what’s right and chosen Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarianism over civil liberties for all Americans. Anyone who doubts this need only ask “if a woman makes an uncorroborated claim to have seen a penis at a college party it is automatically considered sexual assault, but if a little girl sees a penis in the ladies room it is considered tolerance???” Really??? The ACLU has left the planet; and today they are nothing more than a tool for Democrats.

This battle we are in right now is between the same two types of DNA that fought during the America Revolution, except this time our side is fighting to keep the freedom that was won back then. That other type of DNA is fighting for their snowflake fairytale where Kings and Queens and Princes and Princesses take care of all of their needs.

Repubs, Conservatives, 1st and 2nd Amendment Freedom Lovers all need to consider that the smart money says McDaniel can not beat Espy, and how completely stupid we will feel by sending a Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian to the Senate, instead of making the smart bet on CHSmith!

Anonymous said...

CHS will not debate because she was and is a democrat and in a debate her answers would show her true colors. Haley and Phil will not be able to get her elected. Espy is running as a democrat, (at least he is honest about being a democrat). The people of the State of Mississippi will not elect a democrat. Chris McDaniel will be our next United States Senator!

Meanwhile Campaign Finance Contributions show that both George and Alexander Soros have donated to Espy's campaign at max limits.

Republicans(candidates included), don't f--k this up! Don't be too prideful to not withdraw or make a team effort. These democrats have no shame and if put in office, you will see.

Espy will win this race against two true lightweights.

I can afford the premiums yes.

I cannot afford health care without the insurance coverage.

I guess rich people like you can write a check for cancer but I cannot.

Must be nice...for the rest of us poor people...there is Mike Espy.

Anonymous said...

OH NO, NOT THE SOROS MONSTERS!

How do those on the right sleep at night with all these boogie men about?

There are so many dark money PACs on both sides of this for Espy and CHS. Maybe both sides should wake up to campaign finance reform.

Anonymous said...

"Coverage" for pre-existing conditions is not insurance, it is welfare.

Anonymous said...

Exactly was has Mike Espy been doing for the past 20 years, oh yeah...chasing ambulances for Morgan & Morgan. I wonder how much of the billion dollar Pigford settlement he stuffed into his pocket??

mbrookes said...

Coverage for pre existing conditions? Could you wait until your house is on fire to buy homeowners insurance? Wait until you have a wreck to buy car insurance? Makes no sense. Insurance is what you have in case you need it.

Anonymous said...

Espy joined Morgan and Morgan in 2008. He is not a personal njury lawyer.

Anonymous said...

Thad’s handlers were accustomed to handling an inept man who could no longer function on his own so it is no stretch for them to take over “managing” Cindy Hide-Smith and her inability to debate or speak on her own...

Anonymous said...

I understand why CHS does not want to debate either McDaniel or Espy. Most polls show she's in the lead right now, so there's no real upside for her. But there is a downside of her refusal. Some people may see it as her being afraid to debate, and that could cause some hesitation to vote for her. And the reality is that, as one who was appointed and not elected by the people, we are entitled to hear her debate the issues and not just spout some catch phrases over and over.

My thought is she probably isn't a good debater. But that doesn't mean she can't be a good Senator. Lots of people can't debate but can still think and make good decisions.

On the other hand, I think McDaniel and Espy are probably good talkers and debaters who might show well during a debate. That said, I don't think either would represent us well. With all due respect to Espy as I do like him, I can't take the chance of him being just another vote for the Dems. In my opinion, all the mob rule, telling people to attack and berate other Congressmen and women who disagree with them, etc is out of control right now and not something I can support. As for McDaniel, he has ostracized and made enemies of not only the Dems but also most of his fellow Republicans. He'll be sidelined and useless to us, and possibly even harmful to us as no one, not even other Republicans, will want to work with or help him which in turn hurts us as a State.

Lot of "think they know-it-alls" on here.
Republicans for ESPY!

Can't wait to see Senator Epsy and Governor Hood.

Ask Cindy about the money we lost on the beef plant. She and Billy McCoy certainly pursued it enough. What about kior? That video said it all. McDaniel has our vote and our neighbors.

Anonymous said...

hey 5:02 on 10/16...you are a racist retard...Tim Scott as an example is a great senator- the point is these leftist mobsters like Booker and Walters are scumbags- you own it! you probably dont like Kanye either do you?????

Anonymous said...

Tell me what bills of substance has the great Tim Scott introduced. And don't give me that Co sponsor crap either.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Smith 100%. There is no reason for her to debate this guy. He is dead in the water and desperately wants to cause chaos to confuse the voters. I have watched the guy on the senate floor and Smith is 100% right about him. His minions get on forums like this one and try the same tactic he uses and that is to confuse the voters.

Lots of diabetics screaming about insulin costing $1500 a week who will then travel to Mexico to get their fix......all to say they voted against a black guy.

This state is full of some of the most ignorant people.

Last you wonder? How could MS be anything but last?

Anonymous said...

Lots of diabetics screaming about insulin costing $1500 a week who will then travel to Mexico ...

For which insulin? Name it.

Mob rule leftist totalitarianism" - clearly one of the uneducated Trump super-elites. Probably a white supremacist with bloodlust and a Klan hood in his closet, pregnant wife in the kitchen. People like this keep Mississippi dead last in everything.

Anonymous said...

Demographically speaking, and not with racist intent, just a factual observation, it's probable that Espy has a built in 30+% of the population, based on the % of minorities living in the state. It's essentially guaranteed to go to a runoff. This isn't to say that every single african american voter will vote for Espy, but I have read that something like 90%+ of them vote Democratic nationally. I don't see much variation being present in MS.

That said, voter turnout will play a key role in who gets elected. If there is a high minority turnout, along with a high rate of white voters who would fit in as fondronites, Espy has a legitimate shot at winning.

Some people need to accept the fact that Mississippi is changing. It's slow, and it's gradual, but it IS changing. Statewide elections will start to reflect that more and more from now on. Espy reflects that change. McDaniel reflects the resistance to that change. CHS is for those that are ambivalent to the change I think.

Same issues can be seen at play in the Georgia governor contest.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me that McDaniel and his supporters has an issue with recording/taking photos of people without their consent. Rose was the first victim and now CHS. Wow.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
