No Comment: Debate Edition

The Wall Street Journal lacerated the Governor and Senator of New York for refusing to debate their opponents.   The Journal editorialized yesterday:

Why be a journalist if you can’t have fun? Our friends at the New York Post have been doing exactly that while publicizing the refusal of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to debate their opponents in what is allegedly an election year. There’s also a lesson here about what happens in states with one-party government.

The Post has the two Democrats dressed in yellow chicken suits with the headline, “Birds of a Feather” and “We’re gonna need a bigger coop!” Both politicians are planning presidential runs, but they’re so far ahead in the polls that they don’t want to give their opponents a chance to highlight any of their career lowlights.

Republican nominee Marc Molinaro would no doubt want to mention the corruption that has effloresced on Mr. Cuomo’s watch, the lousy upstate economy, and the decline of New York City’s subways. GOP candidate Chele Farley might ask Ms. Gillibrand to defend her past admiration for Bill Clinton and Harvey Weinstein even as she says she believes charges without evidence against Brett Kavanaugh.

Ms. Gillibrand announced Friday she was ducking out of a debate with Ms. Farley scheduled for Sunday. The Senator claimed she didn’t want to cross a “de facto picket line” by workers striking against Charter Communications even as she said “open public debate is essential to democracy.” Is she getting credibility counsel from the Saudis? Late Sunday she finally agreed to a debate on Thursday at 1:30 in the afternoon.

The two Democrats can get away with this disdain for democracy because New York is increasingly a one-party state in which Republicans can’t win statewide. This is partly a result of a GOP majority in the state Senate that has failed to offer much of an alternative to liberal governance. But even that restraint in Albany is likely to vanish this year as Democrats expect to control every branch of government. Politicians aren’t more accountable when they face no significant opposition.
 Sounds familiar.

Cindy hyde Smith got caught straight up lying to the people of Mississippi. Why is this not a bigger deal...

Because the president of the Senate has a ad on this blog site.

Voting McDaniel in the General and for the surviving Republican in the runoff. No way, no how voting for Open Borders Espy.

Anonymous said...

@11:45, why do you say Espy is for “open borders” and what does that mean?

Check how our candidates are rated by GOA. Ms. Smith refused to fill out their questionnaire.

Mike Pence is advertising on JJ? WOW.

I’ll be voting for Espy. No chance I’m voting for “Kill all the peasants Cindy” or Burn the Constitution Daniels”.

Whats interesting is that liberal democrats in New York are doing the same thing as conservative republicans in Mississippi. Interesting

Cindy all the way. No way I will ever let a Dem win anything anymore

My name is Potato and I approved this message said...

Ten thousand invaders are marching, unimpeded, through Mexico to break through our Southern border. The Democrat party will welcome them to come in with no documentation and no due process, and will hand them voter ID cards.

That's the party of Espy.

So many broad generalizations and assumptions here. Secretary Espy is his own man, a moderate or Centrist. He stood with Haley Barbour, even though he knew it might damage his political reputation with Democrats. He is exactly of the mindset that we need in this Country. These comments from both sides about "never voting" for someone of a certain political persuasion are what is wrong with this divided nation. Use your common sense people.

Because she doesn't have to debate. They have been polling daily and their internals match up with the NBC/Marist poll released today. 9-10 pt. lead over Espy and 24 over McDaniel. Poll shows she beats Espy easily in runoff, while McDaniel trails Espy in a head to head.

1:59, is that you President Trump? Impressive use of four lies in two short sentences. I guess practice makes perfect.

Louis LeFleur said...

No, 2:57, I believe the self proclaimed Potato is our very own Tater!

Anonymous said...

Clarify the lies, please Donna.

The Democrat party has consistently promoted lax border policies, voting rights for non-citizens, and has demonized law enforcement on the border.

Are you saying that Espy will stand in firm opposition to Schumer, Feinstein, and Warren? Seriously? Espy will rubber stamp whatever they tell him to vote for, and that's true of Baria or ANY freshman Democrat who may appear in DC next January.

12:12, you need to watch CSPAN more often. You will see your favorite RINO in the Big Chair, having the clerks to tell her what to say!

@3:52, your statements are true about some Democrats in Congress, but your links do not support your sweeping generalizations about the
Democratic Party. Also, what have our Republican incumbents from MS done to solve the tough immigration issues? Nothing except pay lip service to The Wall.

1:59, are you incapable of recognizing that you are being manipulated by right wing media operatives as a part of an orchestrated GOTT campaign? There is no invasion force. Use your brain.

But I supported Haley One Time Years Ago... said...

It is not proper or established political protocol to refer to someone using a prior title when they have been ceremoniously stripped of that title. Referring to the lawyer who was fired by the Madison County Board of Supervisors as 'Secretary Espy' was cute though.

I will not vote for someone with all the cowsh$$ in their past that Cindy has. She is showing Mississippi to be dumber than we are.

Our choices completely suck for this senate race. I think we should write-in the "Ghost of 'name your favorite deceased politician'".

Raise your hand if you have ever heard Hyde-Smith clearly elucidate an idea or a policy statement or a position she holds on anything. And don't step up if all you have is "I supported the President 100% of the time" or "I'm a lifelong conservative".

I've thought long and hard and can honestly say I have never, during the time she was Ag Commissioner or since, heard her stand up and recite original thoughts, position statements or plans, goals and objectives. How could I possibly vote for that?

We all know exactly how Espy would vote and who he would vote with 100% of the time. We all know McDaniel would not vote with a group of democrats in the Senate. We can assume Smith would go along with certain republicans if the right people got to her quickly to tell her how to vote.

Consider your options wisely and understand what your choice means, long-term.

5:16, the Secretary was not stripped of title...
"Espy resigned the agriculture post over accusations he received improper gifts from companies regulated by USDA, such as sports tickets, luggage, air fare, meals and lodging. Espy was indicted in 1997. He refused offered plea bargains and demanded a trial where he was found innocent of all charges. In a related case appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, the high court in a unanimous decision — written by conservative Justice Antonin Scalia — criticized the prosecution of Espy and others as misguided."
"As a congressman, Espy was known for working across the aisle, including with President Ronald Reagan and in 2007 crossed the aisle to endorse former Republican Gov. Haley Barbour."

Yes 12:35 - Espy was found by a 'jury of his peers' to be not guilty of taking bribes. But a dozen folks were found guilty of paying bribes to him - several spent time in jail and millions of dollars were paid in fines. Strange that one who got the benefits is just a nice guy doing his work while those that he regulated on behalf of the country's food regulations went to jail for the 'gifts' that they made to him - and of course, to his various family members.

You and he can claim innocence all day long should you want to - that trial was only one of his transgressions. Check out the midnight meeting at the barn in Holmes County where he took care of his political supervisor friends - again a case where several folks went to jail and lost their jobs over his actions but of course Espy being Espy - he skated.

Espy is far from perfect, but he is the best candidate in this race. Hyde-Smith is an embarrassing moron and McDaniel is a rascist.

If you are for open borders and illegal aliens ignoring the rule of our laws then yes, Mike Espy is your candidate.

It Is With Great Regret... said...

Sorry, 12:35, but being told by the President's 'lieutenants' to turn in your resignation by 10 o'clock tomorrow morning (while being handed a cardboard box) IS 'being stripped of the title'.

@3:26, when has Espy supported open borders or illegal aliens?

Anonymous said...

Exactly. Never.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
