Interesting. To put in perspective, Perry Parker includes $200,000 of his own money (not surprising as it was rumored he might self fund - but shows his fundraising ability not to be as strong as earlier proclaimed) and Morgan Dunn's $100k includes a $70,000 "loan" from herself. Loans are often suspect as to whether they are actual cash that can be spent, so watch the spending reports to see if this is real money. Doty's report has to be very disappointing for her supporters - not even reaching the $100k she proclaimed encouraged her to enter the race. No surprise Hughes leads the pack, but Guest's vaunted collections seem to be a little short of their early claims.
I guess Democrat Evans figures he is so insignificant in this election that he doesn't feel the need to file a report? Or just that Democrats are exempt from following the rules?
where on the internet can I find this listing?
Hey 12:13, I mean Whit. Really. Whit, if you had the money you'd put it in for sure. BTW, it all spends the same.
Parker raised almost no money from people in Mississippi that weren't related to him. He seems to be a good guy but obviously is having a hard time attracting much support.
The Whit for a student body President TV commercial is about as poorly advised at it gets. This is what Austin Barbour said he should do? Talk about his college basketball career and he wasn't even close to being the star on the team. Do they even know that women, in general, know nothing about basketball nor do they care. That's half the vote. And most men care little in Mississippi. Out of the top 5 GOP primary issues, basketball ain't one of them. This will be talked about for years as how not to run a campaign.
12:34, bad guess. Not even close. But nice try. I just bothered to read through the finance reports (as I generally do in most every election that interests me) and saw these as interesting factors. Not suggesting that one's own money doesn't spend well -either Perry or Morgan - if it is actually put in with the authority for the campaign to spend it. In this case, I have no doubt that is the case with Parker.
My biggest surprise was that Guest didn't top $300k, and that Hughes did - and that Doty didn't hit the $100k that she said publically was her trigger for getting into the race.
Next time, though, dont jump to the conclusions quite as quick; or at least realize that you are not as smart as you think you are.
I don't support any of these candidates. However, from my view this will be an interesting race because I don't think any of these candidates are particularly strong. Who knows, I may be surprised at the end of this.
Parker is truly an outsider who would simply like to serve. He ain't after fame, glory, ladder climbing, believes in term limits, limited government, is against special interests, a genuine self-made man and conservative who has never been a part of the MSGOP establishment, or any other establishment, a non "kiss the ring" kind of candidate. Let's hope he wins and gets a chance to serve.
@3:48 Hughes only experience is as a fundraiser for the Barbours. I’m shocked he didn’t have more $. If my claim was economic development and I could only raise 10% more than the public servant, while riding the Barbour machine piggyback I would be ashamed
I’ve reviewed some internal polling from Guest and he is feeling very confident right now. Money aside, his name recognition in the Jackson metro area gives him the clear advantage and my money is on him to carry the day.

Sure you have.
The only reporting Democrat has spent more money than he has the bank!! Imagine that???
I've reviewed some internal polling..... says a lackey from the Josh Gregory campaign office. Probably very internal - all of the staff members, including those of Harper's staff who have not bailed out.
we need breakdown of who contributed to whom--
I'm surprised Guest didn't have more money to report. I know of at least one big fundraiser he did in Madison County -- albeit with a lot of Gen-Xers who clearly aren't high net worth individuals -- which should've been able to deliver at least 2/3 of what he reported. That's not a very impressive total.
Speaking of unimpressive totals, Hughes's pitch includes how he's run political campaigns, been on fundraising committees, etc. His network should be deep and wide (like the VBS song), but the numbers don't show that.
If these guys had just 100 people -- in an entire Congressional district -- who would max out on them, that alone would be $270k (not counting early contributions for the presumed runoff). Smart money is sitting on the sidelines until we see who makes the runoff, but still....
Doty had limited time to raise money since she had to guard against doing too much fundraising during the session and opening herself up to criticism for that. Maybe we can excuse her $80k based on that, but the excuse doesn't put money in the bank. And her "It's probably about time we elected a woman and, well, I'm a woman" pitch isn't going to deliver the votes, especially since Phil screwed us all with the Smith (sorry: I don't do hyphens) appointment.
Unfortunately, results like these make it even more of a Rankin-Madison decision and increase the likelihood that "Shady" Gregg's handoff play to Guest will be successful. Sad.
8:19 - if "you need that" you can look it up online. Its easy. And its free. Help yourself.
This is a very simple race to guage who is who: Whit is the Barbour’s candidate. Guest is the Phil Bryant/Josh Gregory chosen one. The rest are fairly independent from any affiliations. That’s fact.
