Pelahatchie aldermen meet on.... Saturday morning

The Pelahatchie Board of Aldermen met on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.  The notice was posted on the doors of City Hall Thursday.  It is unheard of to hear of a city council or board of aldermen meeting on a Saturday morning absent an emergency or to approve a bill that requires immediate payment.  However, such was not the case as the war between Mayor Ryshanda Beechem and the Aldermen continued.

The main purpose of the meeting was to apparently override the Mayor's vetoes of several board actions.  Here is the agenda:

The Board did not override the Mayor's veto of the cell-phone ban.  City attorney Brad Mills said he was seeking an AG opinion on that issue.  Mayor Beechem vetoed the claims docket at the February 5 meeting.  The Board overrode that veto and approved the claims docket.

Kingfish note: The Kingfish did not attend the meeting, hence there is no video.  The Kingfish did not attend the meeting because he did not know about it.  Interesting how these Pelahatchie concerned citizens who pull me to the side to tell me what is really going on in that town were suddenly silent.  There would be a nice video of this meeting posted on JJ if JJ had known about it.  Funny how the city never posts public notices, minutes, or agendas on its website.  Such is the way things are in Pelahatchie.

Well obviously they are trying to hide something

Why do the citizens of Pelahatchie put up with this? Why meet in secrecy unless you're doing some dirt?

A bird told me the claims docket had to be approved since it was vetoed. It was supposedly the only time that the aldermen could meet since they all have jobs..... unlike a certain City Council.

Someone should ask the Mayor why she vetoed her own pay decrease.

She vetoed hiring Jan Jones bc of her skin color. Goes back to her MO of running for mayor and avenging her mothers "letting go".

Why does she want to veto paying the bond?

She has no idea what she is doing and wants to veto everything. She wants to be in charge and kick whitey out of town. That's the only reason she ran and the only reason she obtained counsel with who she did. Purely a race game. She doesn't care about the town or its people. Its all about her and her mothers termination about being caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

You can tell the people who don't know her or what they talking about because they make accusations that they have no ideal about. You keep bringing her mom up. For what again? I heard her mom bond wasn't taken. I know these people and she did not take a thing. Who is Jan? Maybe someone should request and post her vetos so instead of people making up a reason you can actually see it. As a resident of this town and knowing the Mayor I know for a fact she been a fair person even through school. It sounds like your the one with the race issue since you felt the need to play the card.

As a resident of this town and knowing these people you do kindly wish to judge. The fact is the mayor mom has not been charged with anything and bond did not get revoked. The fact is she never took anything. The fact is the mayor of pelahatchie has always been a fair person even through school. She never saw color, matter of fact she would always try to bring everyone together. Maybe instead of making accusations you should go request her vetos since it's public record that way you will have facts instead of opinion and you will know why she vetoed. The funny thing about your comment is she never say anything about race however you feel the need to play the card. Seems like you should check yourself and ask yourself are you a racist. Don't go take a picture with a black person and say your not. That won't work. She is very smart and the fact that she is following the law is a problem?!? She doesn't care about the town you say but she gives out scholarships. Obviously you wasn't at the board meeting to know why she vetoed her own salary. Do you work for free? Oh wait maybe because she black you think she should since you like that card so much....

4:05/4:25 Where did you (not) learn English and grammar?

Anonymous said...

4:05 AND 4:25 is the same person. Both similar in the grammatical errors. #youryou'relivesmatter

Just from reading on here it looks like they do not want people to learn what is going on. Why else would they ban cellphones from meetings? Wouldn't want anyone recording what actually goes on.

Item #6 is quite interesting. Gonna pay an Architect out of the General Fund and most notably the drug forfeiture money. Somebody remind me again, why Pelahatchie is in the news in the first place?

4:54 and 4:58. pettiness..... well we all know where that's coming from....... bitterness.

When will the investigation be complete? That’s how we know whose hands have really been in the “cookie jar.”

Anonymous said...

What happen? This was a great little town and couple of years ago??

I don't see a big "conspiracy" going on here.

Looks like they were (for the second time), trying to pay some vendors with an idiot mayor causing problems.

Where have we heard this before?

Are they planning to stomp muscadines?

JJ, You might want to start following Pelahatchie News on facebook. There was a post Friday afternoon announcing the Saturday meeting.

5:21 pm

You hit the nail on the head.

Paying for routine monthly expenses with drug forfeiture money is why there is an audit.

Also, I worked for 10 years with Ms Harper and she is no thief.

My experience with the town is that it is brimming with racial animus. White folks by and large are scared to death of a majority black town. The black folks there are largely not involved in business there other than as workers.

With a surprise election of a black mayor the towns worst fears emerged and dealing with the issue is proving difficult.

The problem is that the calmer, cooler heads don’t exist in this area code. As a result abject racists wander about and the net result is this poor demonstration of a power struggle over minor issues.

Don’t expect it to end soon.

Is it PEA-luh-HATCH-E or Pell-uh-Hachee? I really need this clarified for my term paper that's due in a couple of months.

PS: This is an exit paper and I'm afraid if I quote 4:25 (who know she a fair person) I will get an 'F'.

Go figure item 4. vote to override the Mayor's veto of a motion not to accept proposal. I'm a simple guy. The motion was don't accept a proposed so the proposal was not accepted. Mayor vetoes so the proposal is still not accepted. So the Board overrides the Mayor's veto and the proposal is still not accepted. Jeez what am I missing?

Anonymous said...

Ok, I'm confused. I watched the video of the board meeting and I did not hear any vetos. And I watched until KF turned the camera off. When did all the vetos happen. On the video it looked as though everything went smoothly. What happened after the camera stopped rolling?? What did we miss.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
