Hinds County Deputies arrested eight people in a drug bust on December 10, 2013 and charged them with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm. The charge is a felony. However, none of the suspects were indicted. WLBT reported on that day:
Hinds County sheriff's deputies broke up a drug operation and drug agents arrested eight men Monday at a home on Willaneel Drive in Jackson. The police report is posted below. A review of court records shows no indictments returned for any of these suspects.
During a search of the property, they uncovered about one pound of marijuana, digital scales, six hand guns, a military style riffle and nearly 2-thousand dollars in cash. Arrested were:
35 year-old James M. Williams
19 Year-old Jamerio Hudson*
21 year-old Terry Jones
21 year-old Paul Lewis
28 year-old Justin Collins
30 year-old Cornelius Beverly
27 year-old Jeremy Fleming
22 year-old Michael Blackmon
*Hudson was indicted for allegedly participating in a house burglary three days later. He is the cousin of Frankie Williams.
Kingfish note: Go ahead and say it. The investigators are incompetent. The case was flawed. It can't be conclusively proved it was their drugs. You don't know how the system works. You're picking on the prosecutors. You're an idiot.

Nothing unusual about that. There are several different reasons for that. Could be they paid off the right people.
Could be the cops took the evidence.
Could be they were the people the cops were furnishing with the drugs they got off other people.
Stacey Thomas is a veteran narc and a damn good one although I'm sure you were being sarcastic. ;-)
It's marijuana. Who cares.
It's pretty obvious one of the officers involved (or someone from the district attorney's office) released this information to TunaFish so that he could try to burn someone with it.
Doesn't someone need to be burned over this?
Nope. Nice try. Came across it on Google last week while looking for something else and filed a FOIA request.
Here's a crazy idea (for the umpteenth time, I know)....
Take away their market.... If we only had another illegal (and far mor powerful) drug market in the past that we could compare the situation to.
11:06 sounds like they may be one of those involved.
You hit the nail on the head, 11:39. Prohibition doesn't work, and we saw it with alcohol. If MS would get on the train to legalize we could seriously cash in on this stuff and allow law enforcement to focus on real criminals. Sadly, as with alcohol, I think we will be one of the last in the nation to legalize.
FOIA? Don't you mean Open Records? And these types of records are usually NOT given out by law enforcement since they are still under investigation. I'd love to see the request you made, redacted of course.
Ms. law makers are more interested on watching who goes to which bathroom. I do have a question. How are the law makers going to know if a person goes into a bathroom they are not supposed to be in? Is everyone supposed to carry around their birth certificate? Is someone going to observe the people in the bathroom?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Yes, yes, legalize it. What could possibly go wrong?
I guess that was a link (can't get it to jump), so I'll venture to say it wasn't anything that doesn't happen already under prohibition.
Am I a winner?
1:03p, there is ONLY ONE REASON why we will be the last to legalize, namely ole miss makes too much $$$ providing medical marijuana nationwide and has done so for several decades. in an interview with the director a few years ago, a reporter asked him about legalizing and his only response was, "if it becomes legal then nobody will buy from us; they can grow it themselves." granted, that is a rough paraphrase but it accurately reflects his remarks. he also mentioned that they had suppositories for sale. 😀
Tell you what sport, why don't you file an open records request for my open records request. That's legal, you know. You will of course, have to sign your name to it, though.
If you knew open records law, which you don't, then you would know there is no limit on the maximum amount of records an agency can give, assuming it is not a minor's identity or an LEO's personal information. The report posted below is perfectly within the bounds of the public records law and you know it.
What could possibly go wrong?

Put Up or Shut Up time Harpy. Show us what you've got.
I don't think so 4:22.
There is so little research done with cannabis & such a limited number of patients getting federally approved csnnabis that money to UM doesn't seem likely motivation.
More like the alcohol business lobby will own our legislators until the end of time. The church voters have those guys out of sight & out of mind, so it will be easy to make their hilarious-if-not-real "partnership for a drug free America" strategy effective in near perpetuity.
i am not overly happy with the war on drugs but crap like this is not justification for legalization. when they get their 'shooters' back I do not feel safer.
Jaded Grand Jury Foreman here...
Had a case very similar to this come before us a while back, ADA basically told us don't bother indicting any of them because the case would end up being a "it wasn't mine" type of case and it isn't worth the hassle. After he left, I pushed like hell to indict all of them but was vastly outnumbered. I hate the citizens of this state. :(
Please help me understand this.
There was a drug bust. Drugs were found.
People were arrested. Even a firearm was found.
Then all of the people arrested say "it wasn't mine".
Is there a drugs and firearm fairy I do not know about?
Does drugs and firearms grow in some houses?
People should demand those arrested be brought to trial. "It wasn't mine" is not a reasonable get out of jail free card.
From "Sport" to Tuna Fish:
First you say I don't know the open records law then at the very end you tell me I "should know that". Which is it? (I do know it's not a FOIA request however).
I know damn well how you got the records by the way.

12:21, how anyone got the records does not matter. What matters is several criminals got out of jail free and will not be prosecuted.
Do you have a problem with too many criminals being arrested in Jackson? Do you want things like this be kept hidden away?
What the hell is wrong with you?

Getting the records could indeed be improper unless obtained through proper channels. Officers simply cannot give out this type of information to "journalists". If they were obtained improperly it doesn't make the police any better than the criminals in my book.
4:08, the people need this info by any means necessary. I can understand why the cops would not want this info released. I can see where the law makers would not want this info released.
I cannot understand why a tax paying member of society would not want this info released.
It is quite clear that the commenters making these assertions are probably from the D.A.'s office. There is nothing in the law saying these records are prohibited from release and they know it.
