Update: The complete video is posted below. Judge for yourself. Announcer wouldn't let go of asking whether the team was inspired by the bus burning down.
I wonder if he complained about the color of the fire trucks. Reminds me of a homeless guy I saw yelling at the crew to hurry up with his free food during a crowded lunch hour at the McDonald's on Fortification Street. Congrats to the kids for beating USL on their own turf this weekend. Coach's comments shouldn't take away from what they did.

In JSU's defense, a couple of their players expressed their gratitude for the equipment via social media yesterday. Still, a-hole move by the head coach here.
JSU has to rent motels for student housing. Yet, when the Jackson Rising radicals came to town, JSU offered low cost dormitory housing to low income out of state agitators. Just part of the JSU attitude.
When Bob Brady was baseball coach. Tommy Lasorda came every year for a fundraiser for his team.
I came to this site knowing you would have this posted, I think he should have said we appreciate the gesture then said but we couldn't use it because of the color. I dont like how you are posting this but didn't post JSU's historic victory over ULL. And to the other comment the conference took place when school was out so there where no student in the dorms. Why do you attempt to make blanket statements when you dont truly know Jackson states "attitude".
He said what he said and was a thankless prick. Reverse the situation and had Cohen said that about JSU's generosity, Al and Jesse would be calling for the "racist's" job.. Pitifful. I was actually pulling for JSU, BUT HOPE THEY GET FURTHER EMBARRASSED THIS AFTERNOON BY ULL.
No class. No class at all.
A simple thank you would have been nice. Most of us know some good people at JSU, and the players who said thanks are certainly examples of that. Sadly for JSU, many others across the nation will now have a negative opinion of the Tigers based on their coach's attitude. It's State's gain and JSU's loss.
What was the wrong color? I wouldn't have expected MSU to donate Jackson State game uniforms, but I'd be amazed if there wasn't something in the truck that the team could have used. Maybe he was referring to color in another context...
hey coach--you could have used this win to climb the ladder and go to a bigger school. the first thing any AD now sees is a bitter person smug about another team trying to help.
I just wish the words "classy" and "classless" would go away. FOREVER.
uniforms maybe; socks? shoes? gloves? bats? balls? yes, guess they were all too white...
what a schmuck.
If you look at the full 2:17 interview instead of the out-of-context 17 seconds you'll get a different story. The coach was clearly peeved at the presistent questions about the bus fire instead of the baseball team, AND he does say they appreciate all those who offered help: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=11013494
JSU chance to shine. Strike out.
If the donated equipment was not used, maybe it was traded for liquer and whores. Mustard and baloney, cigarettes and dope.
Guess no one will want to use you coach when you need a job in the future. You ungrateful little prick. You lost everything and couldn't use any of the gear gifted to you? Another reason democrats should stick to video games and smoking dope. Baseball is a mans game, now go get your Barbie doll and go nite-nite.
10:28, you nailed it. Context is everything. You can clearly see the guy is tired of answering questions about the fire. Terrible thing, yes, but I see a coach who'd prefer it if the questions pertained to the actual game being played that day.
JSU's an easy target for most--twitter users, commenters on this blog and the like--who were more than happy to vomit prejudices and ignorance online.
If the roles were reversed and MSU said the same thing, it would have received national news... Jesse Jackson would have flown down for a rally...
Finally clarity. For twenty four hours I thought the coach was saying he 'appreciated the money but it couldn't be used since it was the wrong color'. I considered that racist. But, now I'm to understand UNIFORMS were the wrong color?
For a man without clothes, what would it matter the color of the pants you hand him? If I were cold and without a shirt, I might even wear one with JSU across the chest.
As a turtle, I don't wear clothes. However, eons of evolution have provided me with the perfect color scheme and shell to avoid predation. I would not feel comfortable in another turtle's shell.
I don't play baseball either because I'm a turtle and only strong Republican men can play baseball. I don't play video games either, though my humans do and they really like it.
I'm sure every human posting here has played and coached baseball at the D1 level and had a media outlet put a microphone in their face while focused intently on the game at hand and always said exactly the right thing in exactly the right way.
Thanks 10:28. I watched the link. He was/is an ungrateful prick. JSU lost a golden opportunity to show they belong on a national stage. Pathetic. PATHETIC.
He issued a clarifying statement. Maybe he deserves a break, I think we have bigger issues than piling on a poor guy that never dreamed of being interviewed live on ESPN. I'd like to think that I would do better, but when that little red light goes on, you are live world-wide. Some of the best internet typists (like us) might not do much better.
Maybe JSU needs a public relations person to coach and train these guys? Seriously. Who is the spokesperson for the sports department. They should have put out a wonderful announcement thanking MSU for their generosity. That would have taken pressure off the coach who clearly missed his Emily Post class. It's the South... He should have learned from his momma about these things.
He was clearly irritated at the outset of the interview....he was trying to coach a playoff game and this guy kept wanting to talk about the bus fire. The full interview is not nearly as bad as the edited one that was put out there. Not his finest hour, but not nearly what it was was made out to be.
Keep in mind that this interview came a day after JSU had defeated the #1 team in the country. The biggest baseball win in school history. Wouldn't you be frustrated if there were no questions about the game, your players, etc, but instead the announcer presisted in asking questions about a bus fire a month earlier?
He is a complete dumbass. Doesn't he know that the media is always, always! clamoring for story lines and had he played along he would have been on GMA and Tonight Show? Fallon would have bought a new bus! Here is the bottom line:
He got his 15 minutes and then pulled it out and stepped on it.
Now go back to obscurity you clown.
Turtles are slower than molasses and have really stinky turds. Who in his right mind claims to be a turtle? A molasses-slow turd, that's whom.
Class act 2:59. I'm sure you support McDaniel, the tea party and Jim Crow. Total class.
2:59 wouldn't be able to step on it even with his shoe in his hand. What an ass.
2:59 is right on. Sorry. Coach is one stupid shit.
When you're Popovich or Stoops or Saban you can be rude to the guys interviewing you on the sideline. However, when you're Jackson State and your program has just won the biggest game in it's history and you have a chance to be on ESPN between innings you act gracious and try to be politically correct. The question about the bus and the gear that MSU donated was pertinent because they were playing MSU, for crying out loud. I'm sure this coach wanted to get back to the game, but he cost himself and his program with his short sighted response and prima donna attitude.
If he was as good as Saban, he wouldn't be at JSU. You wouldn't have gotten much better had you put Miss College's head coach on live nation wide TV either. And I would love to see half the people on this board handle a live mic. Its a little harder than typing.
