Update (11:05 AM): Kidd pleaded guilty at his arraignment this morning in Rankin County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Dewey Arthur sentenced Kidd to two life sentences without parole.  District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement: 

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families and loved ones of William “Billy” Morris and Christian Storey.  We are grateful for their cooperation, as well as the hard work of our law enforcement agencies, in bringing about today’s judgment and sentence on this defendant.  The Defendant will serve the remainder of his life in prison, with no eligibility for parole.

The Rankin County grand jury indicted Matthew Brian Kidd for capital murder in the August 28 deaths of William Morris and Christian Storey.

 The NAACP blamed the State of Mississippi for Jackson's water problems in a federal lawsuit last week.  The complaint claims the state officials withheld ARPA funds meant for Jackson's water and sewer systems:

Jackson Mayor John Horhn is asking for volunteers for the National Folk Festival that will be held in Jackson  November 7-9.  

 Trans tyranny apparently rules the United Kingdom. British police arrested Graham Lineman as he got off the plane at Heathrow Airport because he tweeted  trans jokes. The Irish comedian who resides in Arizona is the creator of the Father Ted.  Mr. Lineman penned an account of his arrest on Substack:

Luxurious riverboats and quaint paddleboats cruising the lower Mississippi River bring back memories of the grand old days when Old Man River conveyed the wealth, goods, and romanticism that allowed our river counties to flourish. Those memories, both the treasured and the despicable, a few goods, and clusters of tourists are about all it conveys to those counties today.

 Some people need to mind their own business.  Most readers probably would not have been as nice as this gentleman was as this was truly a "Get off my lawn" moment. 

JXN Water can't cut off water to four apartment complexes who owe hundred of thousands of dollars of unpaid water bills thanks to U.S. District Judge Chokwe Antar Wingate.   WLBT reported:

What is it about $8 billion that brings out the worst in lawyers? A holy war has broken out between Ridgeland lawyer Allen Smith, Jr. and the Alabama behemoth law firm of Beasley Allen in federal court over Johnson & Johnson talcum powder litigation. The lawyers were partners in the fight against J&J but things went south after Beasley Allen accused the Ridgeland attorney of cutting a side deal because of financial distress. 

 Several apartment complexes are battling JXN Water in federal court this week over the payment of delinquent water bills.  WLBT reported:

 Indicted Hattiesburg attorney Cory Ferreaz will be going back to jail after he failed to appear in Forrest County Circuit Court this morning.  

 Charging at the police is rarely a good idea.  Right. 

GOP calls video "creepy."  

The 2026 Mississippi Senatorial election took a nasty turn  after Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith's Democratic opponent, Scott Colom, posted a phony phone call with the Senator on social media last night.  The Mississippi Republican Party was not amused as it filed a complaint with the FBI today.

 Things got a little testy on campus earlier this week.

 Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement. 

 The City of Holly Springs faces the music today before the Mississippi Public Service Commission.  The Commission's consultant, Silverpoint Consulting, found the Holly Springs Utility Department was woefully understaffed, underfunded, and operated by managers with no experience in electrical utilities. The Commission ordered Holly Springs officials to appear at a Show Cause hearing in New Albany this morning.    

 Rick Beato recently took a break from commenting on modern music and fighting Youtube to indulge in a true love.  

 After striking out with the Biden EPA, the Jackson NAACP and other plaintiffs accuse the state of Mississippi of intentionally crippling Jackson's water/sewer system by depriving the City of Jackson of much-needed funding in a federal lawsuit.  

 Hattiesburg attorney Cory Ferraez managed to jump out of the frying pan but might be landing in the fire after a Perry County Chancellor withdrew his house arrest but referred his case to the Mississippi Bar last week.  Ferraez allegedly withheld funds from a settlement even though the Chancellor ordered him to deposit the funds with the Court.  

Tragedy struck when MRA Senior Robert Noah was killed while driving down Highway 7 a year ago.  His family says his car drifted into the left lane and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, killing 74 year-old Lizzie Tucker.  The Noah family released this video asking for MDOT to put "rumble strips" in the middle of the road itself.  

 The Capitol Police issued the following statement.

Sixteenth District Attorney Scott Colom announced he will run for U.S. Senate next year in the Democratic primary.  Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is up for re-election in November 2026. 

The Washington headquarters of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture is named in honor of a Mississippian born in the rural Tallahatchie County hamlet of Cascilla, Mississippi, in 1910. In 1995, Congress voted to name the USDA headquarters the “Jamie L. Whitten Building” in recognition of Whitten’s long tenure as chairman of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee from 1949 to 1992.
