Hinds & Madison assessments rise.
Hinds County Tax Assessor Charles Stokes presented the 2014 property assessments to the Board of Supervisors Monday. He said the county assessments improved by 1.1%. Jackson improved at a rate of 1.6% while Clinton improved at 0.9%. Terry experienced the largest increase at a rate of 3%. However, the news was not good for all cities in Hinds County. Learned fell 7.6% and Raymond did the same at 3.5%.

The Mississippi Republican Party fired back with a response to True the Vote's petition for a temporary restraining order. True the Vote also filed two affidavits as supporting evidence. True the Vote cites a Democrat voter "crossed over" and participated in the June 24 runoff election in Neshoba County. The other affidavit is written by someone who claims he saw absentee applications destroyed. The rest is posted below.

Judge Tomie Green orders county to give raises to her bailiffs.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green ordered the county to provide raises to her two bailiffs. Judge Green stated her bailiffs make less than the bailiffs assigned to the other circuit judges, and thus should be given raises of $411 per month. She claimed Sheriff Tyrone Lewis refused to provide raises to the two bailiffs when she requested him to do so.

True the Vote seeks TRO, claims destruction and alteration of records occurred
True the Vote et al filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction against the Secretary of State, Mississippi Republican Party, and the election commissions of several counties*. The 501(c)(3) non-profit orgranization also charged on its website
True the Vote seeks injunction in Jackson.
Yup. True the Vote re-filed its lawsuit against Secretary of State Eggbert Hosemann and the Mississippi Republican Party in U.S. District Court Court today in Jackson. True the Vote and several plaintiffs from Mississippi filed the lawsuit last week in U.S. District Court in Oxford. The plaintiffs withdrew the suit when Judge Mike Mills questioned whether it was filed in the right court.

Charter schools are coming to Jackson (video)
JJ got so busy with the Senate election that this public hearing for charter schools in Jackson slipped through the cracks. Oddly enough, no one spoke in opposition to charter schools. Nashville Prep is establishing the first charter school in Jackson. It will be a middle school in South Jackson.
Martins lived in Ridgeland but voted in Jackson
Local attorney Crystal Martin and the late Precious Martin may have lived in Ridgeland but were registered to vote and actively voted in Hinds County. Mr. Martin was killed in an ATV accident in the Bridgewater subdivision in May.

Rankin County precinct reports
Here are the Rankin County precinct reports for the June 3 and June 24 elections. The reports include both parties. The best way to read them is to simply download and then open. Once opened, rotate the documents as they were apparently scanned in the wrong direction. Scribd does not provide a rotate function. JJ apologizes for the inconvenience.

True the Vote and several Mississippi residents asked the U.S. District Court in Oxford (Northern District) to issue an injunction against Secretary of State Egbert Hosemann and the Mississippi Republican Party. True the Vote asked the court to declare it had a "right to inspect" the voter rolls used in the June 24 election and all accompanying materials. The plaintiffs also ask the court to prevent the Republican Party from certifying the election.
Latest "C's for restaurants
Here are the latest "C" ratings given to local restaurants by the Mississippi Department of Health since April 25, 2014. Schools (and there were a few) and convenience stores are excluded. Quite a few eating establishments made the list. The state will re-inspect a "C" restaurant. The restaurants posted below passed their follow-up inspections unless otherwise noted.

Cities across the country have adopted Citizen Observer's Tip411 system. Tip411 allows citizens to use the internet or a smartphone app to send tips to the police when they want to report criminal activity while protecting their identity. The police never know the identity of the tipster. JPD can also use Tip411 to quickly provide crime information to subscribers in a specific area. The Yarber administration proposed adopting the service at to the city council Tuesday. However, the city council referred the proposal to a committee after Ward 2 Councilman Melvin Priester, Jr. led the charge against the service.

Cochran campaign conference call with national media degenerates into anarchy after someone starts asking why the campaign tried to harvest black votes as blacks used to pick cotton. Talking Points Memo published the tape of the whole call.

The press conference took place at Cochran campaign headquarters on Lelia Drive. FEC asks Cochran PAC for more info
The Federal Election Commission questioned whether a pro-Cochran PAC reported all expenditures on its campaign finance reports. The FEC asked the Mississippi Conservatives PAC to provide more information on some allegedly omitted reports for Winning Edge and Scott Howell & Company. The government stated the PAC must respond by August 1 or face further action. The letter is posted below.
