Bristol Boulevard in South Jackson was once the scene of beautiful displays of Christmas lights. An entire neighborhood putting on a festival of lights. Lanterns lined the streets. Bumper to bumper traffic as cars backed up on Raymond Road. A holiday tradition enjoyed by all. Even as South Jackson's character changed over the years, the Bristol Boulevard continued to shine at Christmas time. It's been thirteen years since yours truly visited Wingfield Place so I drove through the neighborhood fun last night. I won't spoil the fun for you. Just watch the video posted below.
Sadly, there were no cellphone cameras back then so there is little evidence of how wonderful Bristol once was during this time of the year. WLBT shot some footage but it is probably buried in archives next to the Ark of the Covenant.
Even more sad is this comment made when I published a similar post in 2012:
The name meant nothing at the time but it would in three years when some scumbags murdered Eric Hambrick at the High Street Waffle House when he stopped there after choir practice at First Baptist Church. Tomie Green gave them a slap on the wrist after they cancelled Hambrick's Christmas forever.

Everything democrats touch turns to shit.
I grew up near there in the 70s and 80s. This neighborhood and Whispering Pines next to it always had great decorations. I remember my dad telling me one of the big houses on Avian Lane was the owner of the local Dairy Queen franchise. One house (maybe the same one? ) never decorated and we were told they were a Jewish family.
One of the neighborhoods did wooden cutouts in almost every yard.
It's hard to find lights to look at anymore that aren't part of some organized event you have to pay for.
Whispering Pines had the cutouts. Wingfield Place had the elaborate lights. Wish we could dig up those old WLBT videos.
Shudder to think about how badly that neighborhood will look in another thirteen years.
@11:18am - We know you mean non-white people when you say democrats. 65% of democrats outside of the south are white. Leave your trailer and Fox propaganda once in a while and you may see a different perspective. Black people are generally poorer than whites, especially in the south. Poor people typically, as a whole, don’t take care of what little they have and resort to crime to try to survive or otherwise. Poverty, whether self-inflicted or not, is much more a predictor of a “bad” neighborhood than one’s political views.
We did not realize what we had when we had this back then. It was a brighter time that I do not think I will see again in Jackson. Thank you for dragging out a warm memory. I miss that world.
I have been waiting for the new mayor to do something about south jackson. It is a complete dumpster fire. I am not holding my breath
That’s Jackson folks!
Best comment of the year from KF. "It's all blacked out folks". Pretty much sums it up.
Hambricks killer should have swung by his neck.
@11:37 AM had to raise the race card. Nice going jackwagon.
I will celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in quiet self reflection of his glory and forgiveness. Then I will do as he would’ve done and give the money to charity instead of using it for public displays of wealth.
It’s all made in China anyway and you are just helping the PLA Navy build more hypersonic missiles to sink our carrier fleets.
I’m playing “my heart cry’s for you” on the worlds smallest violin
KF you drove through south Jackson at night?? Your braver than me.
Was that a body in the roadway?
When these neighborhoods went down, I knew Jackson was doomed. Many of the citizens who were displaced when several Section 8 apartments were closed down under Harvey 's administration these folks flocked south to what used to be forbidden unless you worker down that way. They destroyed what used to be the best of Jackson and outskirts. Send them to Harvey 's Hinds county mansion!

Best comment ever! Drop the mike & leave the stage.
Let me explain it Does KF mean the neighborhood has no Christmas lights or are only black folks living in those house?
They are proberaly all rental houses receiving HUD reimbursement.
I was born in 1974. Grew up on Wingfield drive just around the corner. Driving through that neighborhood was one of the highlights to Christmas as a kid. I can remember one of the houses had an animatronic Santa in one of the windows. That was a very wealthy neighborhood back then. I can remember my parents pointing to one of the houses and saying "the doctor that delivered you and your sister lives there.".... Great place for a kid to grow up.
12:51, I too, like millions of others, will celebrate the birth of our savior. However, people celebrate in all different ways. I love seeing decorations and lights. It is a time of celebration!
It’s funny. This is the lame way KF voices his “democrat” fatigue. With mealy-mouthed, cowardly “journalism” about the “decline” of Jackson. He knows who is responsible. He’s too chickenshit to say.
I also bet you are celebrating the UK arresting people for terrorism for protesting Israel connected defense companies. I’m sure during drunken eggnog sessions you opine how white anti-Zionists should be exposed by Peter Tiel’s Palantir and arrested here too.
