Commissioner Gipson invites everyone to attend the 166th Mississippi State Fair and announces the schedule of events taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, through Thursday, October 9, 2025. All events take place on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.
Senior American Day at the Mississippi State Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 8, inside the Coliseum. Then, the musical performance “Let Freedom Ring!” will be presented by the First Baptist Jackson Choir and Orchestra at 10:00 a.m. Award-winning artist Ronnie McDowell will then wrap up celebrations with a performance at 11:00 a.m. Church and school groups are invited to attend; admission to Senior American Day is free.
Country music duo and award-winning artists Maddie & Tae, along with Dallas native Tayler Holder, will perform Thursday, October 9, in the Mississippi Coliseum. " Senior Medicare Patrol" ????
WTF is that ?
Senior YES state fair NO,!
They never define senior Americans. Is it the honor system?
Update: JAN is still an awful airport. The state needs to take over from the rubes running it.
I'm hearing that this could be the lowest attendance the fair has ever had.
Is it Jackson and folks are afraid? I went down to the midway to check it out and yep almost no one there. ?
Patrol
Senior Medicare Patrols (SMPs) empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud.
ICE patrols at every corner.
@10:48pm, in all fairness, state fairs across the south are poorly attended this year. Texas State Fair in Dallas looked like a ghost town. $18 turkey legs and everyone is scared of their own shadow these days.
We went on Saturday & it was completely dead! How is the state making any money. So sad!
Does the fair still have that midway game where you shoot at targets to win a stuffed toy? Or is it now you’re the target on the midway?
The state fair has gotten too expensive for what it is, and it's been the same ole shit for decades. I haven't been in over a decade and don't miss it one bit. I doubt I'll go back again in my lifetime.
Husband and I are 70 y/o. We're going to the fair to eat lunch today and walk around the exhibits, if there are any. Cowboy Hat has done a good job of improving security and we feel as safe there as at the local Kroger while grocery shopping.
I went last year for the 1st time in 20 years and while I do applaud the attempt to make it cleaner and safer...I swear the food options have not changed.
After watching recent State Fair cooking shows on Food Network etc. I was hoping to try some of the new, inventive items that other state fairs clearly had. I did not expect to see them all represented of course, but what an utter disappointment to see the exact same items repeated over and over as we passed the food trucks.
It just feels like we never make any updates or upgrades and we just get the exact same over priced fair food over and over.
I guess it saved me some money at least.
You old men are truly the worst. The fair is safe and fun. We go every year and my kids love it. Your perpetual narrative is extremely tiring. Get a hobby. Also, make sure you don't trip down the church aisle on Sunday as you head to the front pew.
The State Fair is a filthy, thugged-out event. It’s unsafe and gross.
Hard pass.
The Mississippi State Fair is a joke.
If you have ever been to another state fair, it’s easy to see how dirty, outdated and miserable this one is.
The food options are from 30 years ago and it’s just a depressing experience.
Won’t ever go back.
