Update (11:50 AM): The painting was returned.
Apparently some people got a case of the stupid when Fenian's Pub announced it was closing. The pub announced on social media:
Not sure why this post has to be made, but please do not steal things from inside the pub. We have cameras. We will call the police and press charges and we will blast you on social media. Some of the art you see on the walls are original drawings and paintings that were expensive and are priceless to us at this point. To whoever stole the painting off the wall last night, we know who you are and if you do not return it today we will be calling Capital Police and posting your picture all over our socials.
Idiot.

For the love of God, post it anyway.
This is idiot customers that want a "memento from Fenians Pub" because they loved the place. They forget that the items belong to the owner. He has a right to give stuff away or sell it, but you can't steal it.
Sounds like a bluff.
They took advantage of me more than once with $500-$800 tabs on my credit card. Should be a crime to hand a drunk person a bill like that and charge their credit card. I will take whatever the fuck I want.
I must confess that was my first thought when I saw they were closing
I miss Christos
I saw a lady take a salt shaker in 1998/ I will give up her name for $400.00
They just posted "The painting has been returned and apology accepted. Let's all act like law abiding citizens for the next couple of weeks please and thank you!"
Good one, Fenian's!!! Fat chance of their drunks and thugs being law abiding citizens, much less for weeks. Hilare.
@9:10AM - Theft is theft and you should be prosecuted. Being a drunk who can't read his/her own bill is just being an idiot. Also, love that you admitted to doing that multiple times. Sounds like AA should be your next stop, not Fenian's.
If 9:10 is the perp this is JJ gold.
I will say that based on their price for a pint of Guinness in 2003 it wouldn't take long to ring up a $500 tab.
So what happened? Did the brewery take it out? Did the new generation of Jackson twenty something service industry, young Millsaps grads, MC Law kids not get the memo to go there after Covid? Was it the firing of Jamie? The bathrooms being dirty?
I’m sure there are a number of people that would go in together on buying it if somebody can’t afford it by themselves. Are the Cupid’s (spell) just f’ing with us? Jackson’s population would be even lower if it weren’t for that place.
11:08 nailed the clientele description. Oh the memories from the "Belhaven Country Club".
Once they went woke during covid requiring you to wear a face mask to drink a beer, i never went back. That Place is such a $hithole that between the stairs to get in, the bathroom being nasty, and it being old AF, covid couldn't even exist in there, yet liberalism ran rampant. Go Woke, Go Broke.
Call Wyatt Waters, he would probably do a watercolor painting of Fenians. He does well painting popular landmarks around the state. I suggested he do a watercolor of the Crystal Grill at Greenwood after they closed.
Four years later, 12:24 is still crying about a mask like it's some grand political statement. Get over it, snowflake.
I agree. I loved the Shepherds pie there many years ago but noticed something had changed and I didn’t belong in that environment any more. It had turned into a beer joint and I never went back. It was woke long before Covid and about as nasty as the Cherokee when it was on N State.
Yep, I never went back after their stupidity of requiring a mask in an eating and drinking place. Just like I won't go back to New Stage or Duling after their discriminatory vaxxed vs unvaxxed rules even after the damn CDC director went on CNN and stated unequivocally that the Covid vaccines do not prevent transmission.
9:10 AM
Maybe you should lay off the liquor and stop day drinking as well.
I moved out of Sippi about 10 years ago. Before that it had been 15 years since I went to the pub. I remember when Christo's was downstairs. We used to drink all Chris' beer for free. I stopped visting the area when were mugged in the late 90's right near the front door to the damn place. How they made it this long I will never know.
Stealing is illegal in Jackson? Who knew?
12:48 calling someone a snowflake for not wanting to wear a useless mask is rich. When businesses insult the intelligence of customers, customers take their business elsewhere.
Was there a woman 😜 involved?
Server added extra tip on top of the 20% tip I had already left. Good riddance Fenians. Word of advice-Always take photos of your receipts. Not the first Jackson restaurant to do this.
Even when we were twentysomethings newly moved to Jackson, it never crossed our minds, to go into Fenians. How did it work? Was there a parking lot? Was there ever any on-street parking? The whole setup just looked WRONG, to us - to the point that my husband never mentioned it as a possibility - nor did I. And was there ever an actual Fenian running the place? Or was that simply the kind of name you picked for a pub, back during the 'Fern Bar Era'?
Just driving through Belhaven Heights and turning onto Fornication, was such a challenge, I can't imagine trying to park there - or even walk into the building. The logistics just looked dicey (even before considering the locals). Oh, well... kudos to them, for staying in business, in such a challenging spot.
