Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
Governor Tate Reeves today announced that the Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) recently approved nine broadband expansion projects to be funded by the Capital Projects Fund (CPF). These nine projects will provide $21.6 million of grant funding to expand internet service to approximately 12,300 households in communities across the state. “Mississippi continues to make incredible progress in expanding broadband access all across our state,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “It’s a critical piece of infrastructure, and we’re working hard to ensure that every Mississippian has access to it. We’ll continue doing everything in our power to ensure everyone has connectivity, regardless of their zip code.” Approved projects by provider are as follows:- ACE Fiber – Blue Springs/SE Union County
- ACE Fiber – Blue Mountain to New Albany
- ACE Fiber – Potts Camp to Myrtle
- AT&T – Leake County: Sebastapol/Conway/Bertice areas
- AT&T – Marshall County: Mahon/Waites/Laws Hill areas
- CSpire – Southwest MS: Columbia/Summit/Osyka/Liberty/Gloster
- CSpire – Central MS: Puckett/Magee/Mendenhall/Madison
- Comcast – Statewide Line Extension: Jackson area/Laurel/Hattiesburg areas
- TVEPA – NE Yalobusha County/Water Valley
This announcement is in addition to $70.1 million awarded for 24 other CPF projects approved in June of this year to serve approximately 27,000 households. In total, Mississippi was allocated $162 million through CPF. The $162 million in CPF funding is only one of the investments in Mississippi broadband that is to be administered by the BEAM office. BEAM is currently overseeing the $32 million Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP) projects (12 projects in 10 counties) that will be completed this calendar year. BEAM is also preparing to administer the $1.2 billion in funding provided by the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) grant, and overseeing the $10.7 million State Digital Skills and Accessibility grant. Citizens are encouraged to visit the Mississippi broadband map available at www.broadbandms.com. The map shows available service at each household, as well as locations that already have federal funding for service expansion. BEAM can be reached by phone at 601-359-5029 or by email at info@beam.ms.gov for any questions. |

Tate doesn't mind government spending when it comes in the form of pork from that other government (feds).
10:53 when Brandon Presley championed these broadband projects it was all praise from you guys.
Glad ole Brandon Presley can get some from the cooperative in Water Valley. Meanwhile us rural Entergy customers still taking the screwing he gave us.
Are you really here to bitch about providing broadband service to every corner of every state? You probably already have it, but assume you have three school age children who cannot access the internet for purposes of assignments, homework, projects, etc. Should a governor refuse to engage in the provision of broadban?
Even if you don't like my example, pretend YOU couldn't post stupid shit on a blog.
~$92MM spent on 39,300 households. Taxpayers paying $2,300 per household so people can upgrade to the premium plan on Netflix with 4K streaming.
10:53 Broadband is the modern equivalent of mail delivery, which has been a government-sponsored service for 200 - 300 years now. Try to keep up
Tate seems mighty proud.
A person could get suspicious when politicians claim credit for spending money without reference to the source.
It's almost enough to make a suspicious person think this is Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or the CARES Act or Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) money!
Dial-up worked fine before, so suck it up snowflakes.
Oh Tate! I'm so sorry that I hurt your feelings!
Been rocking 56K for like 30 years, who needs a bigger interweb tube?
Not mentioned is the only reason there is money to get broadband to underserved areas is thanks to the Biden administration and the federal dollars they provided for this program.
I'm an independent and often voted Republican but not since the crazies and liars have taken over! Tell the truth for a change and GOVERN!
Starlink is available everywhere. What? You don’t like Elon Musk now?
11:27 - I'll go further than that. I work with a country boy in IT. You know he is, he knows he is. The man has the IQ of a phone number, can develop by high standards and lead a project in the right direction. There are more of his kind out there in Mississippi and with connectivity, they have more options to work, pay taxes, help Mississippi move forward a bit. Give them the tools and the opportunities, and watch.
"if you disrespect anybody that you run into, how in the world do you think anybody suppose to respect you..?" and I for one, don't give a good cahoot. This couple needs some Staple Singers therapy.
The Biden admin hates Elon Musk. By providing million$ for free internet those customers won't sign up for Musk's Starlink. The "free" money just adds to the national debt and buys votes.
The type of complaints we hear today about assuring everyone has access to high speed internet were heard in the past about improved roads, railroads, and rural electrification.
Three government infrastructure programs that worked for Mississippians, despite the loud complaints of the know nothing obstructionists.
@7:13 I earn 7 figures in IT and I’ve never needed more than Notepad+ and an SSH terminal. Even for AWS and Azure. And SSH works just fine tethered to my phone. The problem with IT thes days are all the no-coders and “project managers” who want to constantly have “Teams” meetings to justify their salary. And those time wasting meetings require broadband.
It is worth googling BEAM and their plan to have broadband connectivity in every corner of the state by 2028. There are also really great economic analyses showing how broadband access in rural communities have very positive ROI--for example in healthcare, it can lead to higher quality healthcare via telehealth and reducing ED visits etc. that quickly pay for itself. Tate gets it.
look at line 4 , word #4 in the ''statement' by tater. it says GRANT....that means tater got it free from the feds. yet another example of how this state is nothing but a beggar at the doorstep of the us congress.
Did he blame Biden
