Jackson Employees Screw Animal Shelter

Update (8/29/24 11:30 AM): The city is attempting to repair the back flow valve this morning.  Fingers crossed.

The Animal Rescue Fund in Jackson posted an urgent message on Facebook:

The song: Just Another Brick in the Wall is running through my head right now.
We are in the City of Jackson. The City of Jackson has had major water issues for years and we are not immune from the suffering from this non-functioning portion of the City. The City has many other issues as well, and an administration that does not care about the citizenry, nor the businesses of the city. A lot of gas lighting is about all the administration is good for. I could list the many issues that are failures by this administration, but we don't have that much time.
Today, at around noon, our water quit working. A city mower mowed over our back flow valve that is required for a business to have water. We installed that device years ago at a cost of well over $5,000.. We called the call center for Jackson Water and were told that it isn't their issue and then were hung up on us. I went to the administrative building of the Jackson Water contractor to try and get assistance. I was told that they have to reach out to the call center to get someone to come fix it. I explained that the call center had already told us they could not fix it. I called our city councilwoman's office. I was told that since the water is handled by an outside company she could not help, but gave me the number of the woman at the Jackson Water administration office that I had just spoken to. I was also given the phone number of the man who runs the Jackson Water company. His mail box is full and can not accept any calls. I found the mower and told him of the issue. He called his boss and his boss told him that "he don't have time to fu@k around with that bullsh*t. " and then hung up on him.
A representative from Jackson Water stopped by, called his boss, he said it is not his responsibility it is Jackson Care and Maintenance (the guy who said he didn't have the fecking time to deal with this bs) so now, We a struggling charity has to figure out how to hire a plumber to come fix this issue. We are broke. We don't have the money for this.
When we tell people that we need to move out of the City of Jackson to our new facility, there are many reasons: we need a better place to house our animals, we are tired of the crime with no concern from the city - each time we have a break in, even if we have the people's name and address of who committed the crime, we get nothing. Our insurance rates are out of the roof expensive, because of the crime and break ins we have had. We can't get water. We can't get anyone to address the issues.
Just Another Brick in the Wall.

Not fixed. City employees told me I didn’t know what I was talking about when I told them that you can not glue pvc with water pouring through it. He told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about and guaranteed it would fix the problem.
It didn’t. Glue did not hold.

Kingfish note: Guess Virgi can't get it done, right?

Does this organization not have an attorney? I guess they'll say they can't afford one.

At this point I don’t know why any offices are left in Jackson. And why we don’t relocate State employees as soon as we can. How inept can a City be and not care.

It is a losing battle for them. And it is not just with the City of Jackson. Go to ANY county office and watch the expressions of the employees who HAVE TO get up and offer you assistance. They act like you are wasting their valuable time by asking them to do their job.

I used to think the City of Jackson and Hinds County could do better. Now I'm not so sure.

Would this not be considered animal abuse by whoever is responsible for fixing it? Seriously! How are they going to provide water to the animals and clean up after them? And by the way, didn't Sister Rutka claim that water is a fundamental right?

Get out now- while you can.

Where the hell is Virgi?

The sorry bastard that said he said he didn;t have time to F-k around with this bs should have the water meter at his house ripped out of the yard with an excavator.

The types of folks running Jackson have never been known for their compassion for animals. That’s a trait that is human.

I'm slightly confused. Did they contact City water department or JXN Water?

You can tell there’s an election coming up when employees are made to get off their asses and mow the grass. My road in south Jackson just got mowed for the first time in 4 years. It will probably have to last for the next 4. I wish idiots would stop voting for these lazy, incompetent, corrupt politicians!!

Shocking I tell you, shocking said...

Jackson is a dog eat dog third-world city.

If you still live in Jackson or have a business in Jackson you should have learned by now how things are run in Jackson. It isn't like this a surprise. If you continue to stay in Jackson you should know you are in for quite a bit of the same stuff you have been experiencing. Either get out or quit complaining.

Plumbers trick…push a piece of white bread down the pvc pipe to stop flow….glue with pvc wet or dry glue.. after drying open valves to let the bread come through..best wishes…sometimes you have to cut the water off at the meter if the flow is too much

@9:26 They contacted JXN Water but because the City employee mowing the grass was the one who broke the valve, JXN Water can't resolve the issue until the valve is fixed. Then it sounds like when they tried to get the City to fix it, the City employee's boss told him that he didn't have time to "f around with that bs" (sounds about right) and they were back to square one. Classic case of no one wanting to own up to their mistakes and fix them. I hope the City hires a real plumber to go fix the issue ASAP. I know the City has some really hardworking employees, but it seems the majority have gotten used to not having to do much and don't like it when expectations are anything but the bare minimum. When someone's boss has that response to an issue like this, he should not be managing employees.

I heard that Jackson Public Works may have to lay off some people. Why? Because the Chinese invented a shovel that will stand up by itself.

7:19 I challenge you to come to Rankin County and see if your opinion of city / county employees changes. I encounter both city and county employees frequently, and they absolutely do NOT have the same demeanor as our western neighbors across the river.

For some reason, the very nice neighborhood I live in Madison, the city doesn’t seem to have these recurring problems. If there is a problem, the city fixes it and it stays fixed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
