The city of Jackson issued the following statement yesterday.
Since Councilwoman Angelique Lee’s term has more than 6 months left… a Special Election must be held to fill the Ward 2 vacancy.
Within 10 days…. The City Council must hold a meeting to decide on a date for the special election.
-That election date must be between 30-45 days of the meeting.
-The Municipal clerk must publish in a newspaper the date of the special election once a week for three consecutive weeks before the special election date.
-A notice of the special election must also be posted in City Hall
-Each candidate must qualify by petition filed with the Municipal Clerk at least twenty (20) days before the date of the election.
-The petition must contain the names of at least fifty (50) qualified municipal electors. Qualifying packets will be available for pickup at the City Clerk’s office once the election date is set.
-There is no qualifying fee for candidates in Municipal Special Elections.
-The candidate receiving a majority of the votes wins.
-If no candidate receives a majority vote, the two candidates with the most votes will head to a run-off.
-If only one (1) person qualifies to run, there will be no election and that person must be appointed.
-If no one qualifies, there won’t be an election, and someone will be appointed to fill the vacancy by the Mayor.

They can't wait on Banks? Otherwise they'll have to repeat the process. Work smarter not harder people
I imagine Tyrone Lewis will run again, and probably Melinda Todd, too. A strong contender would be Robert Gibbs or someone like him.
When a defendant is ready to plead guilty, you don't put it off.
Anybody but Rukia Kai the property tax dodger.
Is banks next to plead?
Robert Gibbs. Yeah, he'd be good. But why in the bloody hell would someone as respected and successful as Robert Gibbs want to wade off in that s*** show?
"If no one qualifies, there won’t be an election, and someone will be appointed to fill the vacancy by the Mayor." That would be sista Rukia. Right?
That’s too many rules for this incompetent bunch of idiots to comply with.
Experience in grifting is essential-
Ability to have both palms greased while continuing to hold a conversation. Right?
Chowke and Jody arrested for bribery in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 You read it here first.
Shouldn't they wait until all the members involved get busted before an election?
I’d give even odds city hall will fail to publish or adhere to the requirements as posted
Some people are freaking out that some people commenting think Stokes is good. I don't think anyone is saying Stokes is the second coming. People just realize he may be the best of the worst. You take what you can get.
KF 10:02 I think he meant can't the city wait for banks before announcing the special election so they don't have two special elections
The City Council is following the ordinance.
7:59 - I see what 10:02 did there.
(Probably a) dumb question, but I'm too lazy to figure out the code or statute: do you have to live in the Ward to run? That's what I assumed, but I noticed the press release didn't say anything about that specifically.
Which ward YOU live in, Kingfish?
Just hoping David Archie doesn’t run for any upcoming positions!
