Madison-Rankin District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, Jr. announced today that Calvin F. Francis, 50, pled guilty and was sentenced to ten (10) years without the possibility of parole for Felony Driving Under the Influence 4th Offense as a non-violent habitual offender in Madison County Circuit Court. On April 18, 2023, an officer with Madison Police Department made a traffic stop on a vehicle for careless driving and identified the driver as Calvin F. Francis. The officer smelled alcohol on Francis and asked him to step out of the vehicle when Francis advised that he had just been released from prison for a Felony DUI 3rd Offense in December of 2022. After conducting field sobriety tests and preliminary breath tests, Francis was taken into custody and transported to the Madison Police Department where he blew into the Intoxilyzer machine and registered a .13% which is above the legal blood alcohol content limit of .08%. On February 24, 2024, an officer with Ridgeland Police Department made a traffic stop on Francis for careless driving. The officer smelled alcohol on Francis and after conducting field sobriety tests, Francis refused to blow in the machine. A search warrant was obtained for his blood. His BAC was .15% which is almost twice the legal limit.Francis has remained in custody since his February 24, 2024 arrest. He has at least four prior DUI convictions including one for a felony DUI 3rd Offense in Madison County from 2018. He served five years for the DUI third offense. Francis was indicted for two counts of Felony DUI 4th offense in April of 2024. He pleaded guilty to Felony DUI 4th offense as a non-violent habitual offender on August 28, 2024, and was sentenced to serve ten (10) years without the possibility of early release or parole.
District Attorney Bramlett stated, “Mr. Francis was given chance after chance to get sober. Or at least to quit driving while intoxicated. In Mississippi, if you are convicted of a third DUI within five years, it becomes a felony offense. If you are convicted of another it becomes a DUI 4th which is punishable by up to ten years imprisonment. He had already been to prison once for the third" "DUI offense. Within 14 months of his release from prison, he was stopped and charged with not one but two additional DUI offenses. He is a serious danger to the community, and it is a miracle he had not hurt or killed an innocent person. I want to thank both the Madison and Ridgeland Police Departments for always keeping an eye out for possibly impaired drivers and keeping the roadways of Madison County safe for all drivers.”

Whatever happened to Danny Blanton? He had a similar story.
better check that liver-
When you're good at something, stay with it I say.
The majority of the public believes that FSTs (Field Sobriety Tests) are required. Nope, they are not (except in a handful of states) They are very subjective and difficult to pass when you are completely sober, especially if you are over 55. DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO TAKE A FST.
Tragic what has happened to him. Not saying he doesn't deserve it. Heavy price he is paying now. Wonder what he thinks?
There's nothing to do here but get drunk anyway
Does he get to walk into prison, grab the key off the wall, unlock the cell and walk in, close the cell door, and hang the key back up? That is the way Otis Campbell would do it. Of course Otis didn't drink and drive. Although he did ride a cow once.
Agree with 10:44 and also grateful that he never hurt anyone around him with his drinking and driving. Sounds like this person needs a long term residential treatment facility , 18+months etc. but the only resources we have to keep society safe from his decisions is prison.
We don't know that he didn't hurt anyone around him with his drinking and driving.
He just was never caught doing it. Ever hear of a drunk fleeing the scene of an accident?
10:34 you of all people should know better than say don't do a field test! I have gotten out of 3 "potential dui's" bc i did the field test and failed all 3, but bc i didn't blow at the station, I got out of all 3! Why???? bc field tests are not calibrated. Only the police station is calibrated and admissible in court. Geez. People need to learn the play the game. Ask a DUI attorney. Its facts, not opinions, that matter.
@ 12:20 PM - People need to learn to call an Uber. Sounds like maybe you should try it, too.
Who is this dude and how is this news?
36 years in the dui legal business here,,,,,,,,,,,,field sobriety test are designed for the defendant to fail. about 1% done nationwide are done to the satisfaction of the officer.
its too bad bubba bramlettts office can't do much about all the meth heads in their monster trucks who drive around all day and night jacked on meth making every effort to blow slower traffic, cyclists and pedestrians off the road.
rankin county has thousands of those types. day in and day out its the worst problem in rankin county. worse than cracked foundations and littering , and that is saying something. the only thing meth heads understand is the working end of a .357 , a .44 or preferably a tarus judge loaded with .410 shot shells.
Great ad optimization to have a Briarwood Wine and Spirits banner embedded in the body of the post
It's crazy how many people on this post are essentially denouncing DUIs and saying what to do and not to do if you are pulled over. How about you don't drink and drive in the first place?! Just a thought.
FST and PBT are two distinct different tests.
@2:46 PM - No shit sherlock, and neither can be required in Mississippi.
I never have over two drinks and drive leaving a restaurant! If have more than two my wife is driving! I can’t afford to kill someone for my stupidity nor pay $10,000 total cost to drive again. Now I do have more than two drinks at home and ride my mower until it runs out of gas on my 2 acre plot! No blade on mower!! I got drunk and took it off.
It’s says they obtained a search warrant for his blood. How do u get out of that?
to 2:30.....check it out sister, when one of those cops who is trying to get his or her self into the 100 club, for 100 dui arrests (thats arrests, not convictions mind you) in a 12 month period , a citizen better be ready to grab his ass and hang on cause its everyman for himself at that point. those cops are going to play you every way they can and you had better be ready to play em right back.
August 29, 2024 @ 2:30 - AMEN!! WTH is wrong with people!

Otis did have a car once. He got a little Ford A roadster. Andy would follow him around to them Jukes & dissable it so it wouldn't start. Otis finaly got rid of it.

He did his time and he's out - leave him alone.
Like another poster, I never have more than two drinks without having a driver. And I find drunk driving (and the danger to innocent people that comes with it) to be deplorable. So don’t think that I’m taking up for the guy.
With that said, the system appears to be taking care of this case at this point, and I don’t think they need the help of a blogger right now, Kingfish. So, what’s the point of this story? It seems like you have quite a lengthy history of trying to shame people for clickbait kingfish (see, for example, your numerous and shameful stories poking fun at people for having mental health disorders in public places)—which is also quite deplorable.
He who is without sin can cast the first stone. So, do you think you’re perfect, Kingfish?
Suck it. In case you haven't noticed, and I'm sure you haven't, this site has been reporting on fourth offense DUIs for quite some time. Why? Because usually they got away with the third one when they were supposed to be in prison. It's more of a way of letting the courts know we are watching. Now in this case, not that you care, the D.A. sent out a press release. So take it up with the D.A. if you have a problem with the press release.
to 5:46......i dont know where you grew up or where you live ,but the fish is he first journalist ever in this state that has ever had the guts
to tell the truth on issues that other media outlets would not touch with a 10 foot pole.
fish actually understands how both the civil an criminal legal systems work , how both state and federal legal systems work and the systems of nonstop corruption take place in this horse and buggy state. if you think the little bubblehead wannabe actors and actresses from the main stream media are going to get to the bottom of an issue you got another thing coming.
you move to supress the results because a cop was probably involved and screwed it all up. especially if the cops are the little tattooed teeny boppers of the reservoir patrol.
to 5:46....so you admit its ok to have one drink and then drive,,,,,,hahaha i been in the legal business of handling DUI for probably long then you been alive and ive seen enough people to fill barnett reservoir go to jail for having ''one drink'' .
