It appears some form of Medicaid expansion will pass the legislature only to meet the Governor's veto pen. Just one question. During all of the horse-trading, how come no abolishment of the certificate of need was placed on the table? Are the so-called conservatives in the legislature in that much of a hurry to expand Medicaid? Just curious.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

No to expansion.
Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to FIX EVERYTHING? It was the only thing that had to happen for EVERYONE to have access to great healthcare!
What a joke anyone is that thinks this is the only stop on the way for more bureaucracy on the way to state-mandated healthcare.
Obamacare - Marxism 101
Veto it governor.
No matter the cause rural hospitals are hurting.
So KF, Medicaid expansion will cost enough. You want every Urgent Care center on every corner have an MRI by eliminating the CON process. It's a pain but you just program that time into your project time line and if you can make a business argument for requesting what before the CON, they will approve it. Just part of doing business. It probably could use some tweaking but it's not all bad.
3:03 for the WIN!!
Absolutely “no” expansion!
Pro-Con CON:
1. So you’re trying to save hospitals? If it’s CON related you’d be against all of the medical clinics doing outpatient surgeries and other procedures that used to be ALL performed in the hospital. They started with those procedures that were mainly done for patients who had private insurance. Obviously the most profitable. Hospitals then cry about how they need to be able to keep those procedures to offset what they lose on the others.
2. Shouldn’t we let the marketplace work it out? If there can be an intersection where there is a tobacco store on one corner, a liquor store on one corner, a fried chicken place on one corner, and a beer barn on the last corner, why then can’t we have a health care facility on every corner. If you’re crazy enough to buy an MRI machine that doesn’t get used, then you shouldn’t be in business.
3. You want to open a nursing home? Don’t you know you might be taking patients away from an existing facility? Do you know how politically connected the existing owners are and how they can have your applications squashed by just saying there are plenty of bed available?
Off the topic, but where is the outrage that the legislature has failed, for three years now, to pass a ballot initiative? I guess the legislature no longer works for us.
Expand Medicare (under any name they want to call it.). Expand low cost check ups. It will save us money in the long run, and just maybe some of the least amongst us will live more productive lives.
They've certainly turned a blind eye. I know of several MRIs and even a couple of outpatient cath labs that were deployed without a CON.
Great point, KF. Let's get increase the supply of medical serivce providers by eliminating the government's ability to determine market need.
Also, on a related note, this has been the worst legislative session in years. So much promise and so little results. No income tax elimination, no CON reform, liquor still run by the state and banned in certain counties, sales only at certain hours; no initivative; weak sauce....
CONs are going nowhere
Hell No on Expansion.
Gov better veto it.
Yeah, right, the obese are only a "low cost checkup" away from good health. Get real.
So,9:05, it's very difficult between the histrionics and sarcasm to figure out what you are really trying to say. Oh, and other than Five Points, most corners have 4.
9:41- there isn’t one cath lab in MS that isn’t tied to brick and mortar hospital. There aren’t any stand alone cath labs anywhere in MS. Lastly, about half of the procedures performed in a cath lab are outpatient; simply means post-procedure the patient is discharged home (not even going to discuss two-midnight rule).
By definition if you are conservative you are against expansion. If you are for expansion and say you are a conservative or expansion is conservative you are either dishonest or don't know what conservatism is.
9:05 pm Medicine is a profession not a business. Professions are key to a functioning society.
For a prosperous society we need healthy citizens who can be productive. We also need a strong middle class.
You don't look to "the marketplace". You look at whether or not a farmer in the Delta who has a serious work injury can get to a hospital in time. You want that farmer's his pregnant wife and baby to be saved if she develops symptoms of pre-eclampsia. Or better yet for her, she has had access to a doctor or trained nurse all through her pregnancy.
I am old enough to remember that in the South, we began to prosper when we had community hospitals. I remember when we had easier access to doctors and didn't have the "business model" driving their practices.
Now, even though an orthopedic surgeon can deal with any broken bone, if you have one in your arm and one in your leg, you get to pay two doctors. You now sit in waiting rooms for long periods of time, often even with those who don't know they are contagious or who are so poorly "raised" to not cover their nose or mouth when they cough or sneeze.
Some of us remember when doctors and lawyers and accountant etc. professionals and their livelihood was dependent not on advertising and publicity but on their abilities and reputation.
I get the frustrations of those of you who find modernity unnecessarily burdensome, but you are looking for "business" and "profit" to work for everything and that IS the problem!
Once upon a time, the city had it's own garbage trucks and workers and because of that we paid "cost". Once it was a let contract, the costs have consistently gone up with very little to show for it and worse, we gave the first contractor his "start up" plant and equipment to keep the first contract artificially low. AND, I had a reliable source ( one who wanted to bid on the contract tell me how much a city councilman charged for his vote.
So, I'm with you in seeing the problems. What you are likely to young to see is why the problems exist! You don't know that economics and forms of government are not identical. Communists and dictators do well with capitalism...the difference is their loyalist are the one who profit and there is no real competition based on delivery of goods and services to their citizens!
09:45 this is excellent analysis on the current state or the “lack of” professionalism within our world today. I am a medical care provider as was my father. He and his colleagues were true “gentlemen” and were the example of professionalism. He taught me when I started in practice with him that “son, professionals don’t advertise. Take care of the human in front of you and it will all work out”. I still practice by the idea today and have for the last 18 years.
It’s sickening to see the legislature waste all this time and energy on something that will never come to pass
Granny's opinion is not analysis.
I earned and I plan to use it for my living expenses!
I earned it and we were promised PERS. Don’t abandon us now!
What difference does it make if the governor vetoes it? That veto will save time and money since the Biden regime will never approve the elements of the bill related to a 'work requirement, anyway.
How many more 'spinning wheels' are left in this session's tool-box?
Democrats supporting this is no surprise but republicans? I already had my name removed from the voter rolls. I never liked democrats now I don’t like republicans either. Both parties love free stuff.
.
I have no moral obligation to pay for someone else’s health care! The federal will print more money to pay for it. My money loses buying power due to inflation.
