I think the lacksadasical attitude towards crime and those who commit crimes (black or white), has enabled the city to get in the shape its in now. I have said it a million times and I will say it a million more. I don't care about young people who allegedly have committed some type of heinous crimes. I care only about someones elderly grandmother on mill street, or roach street, who is unable to defend herself. We need SAFETY not social justice.

Whatever it takes to get to SAFETY within REASON is fine by me. I am not advocating for racism I am advocating for enforcing the laws we have without prejudice.

The Capitol Police idea is a blessing for anyone living in Jackson.

The layer of judges idea? Won’t work practically as the appeal process will likely hinder the goal….but a valiant effort nonetheless.

I honestly think if the police could arrest 250-300 people - and keep them in jail - Jackson would start to rebound. The repeat offenders are the main source (not the only) of serious crime in Jackson.

WLBT's version of this story states the armed fugitive initiated the gunfire which sparked the return fire. Perhaps you'd prefer the cops to take a bullet in the interest of "equity", or shoot the gun out of the man's hand? Or were you being sarcastic?

Oh, and don't fire a weapon at an officer. They tend to frown upon that.

Perp obviously has a record and was headed back to jail if caught. He decided to take the "death by cop" route and the cops (in this case) were bad shots. Next man up.

10:44, maybe if people wouldn't run from the cops or commit crime that would change. Sooner or later cops are going to hurt someones feelings in the process of an arrest or traffic stop. In 52 yrs of being on this Earth, not once have I been harassed by cops and I have been all over this world. Being a law abiding citizen is not a hard to do.

Though I concur with your sentiment, cops, though mostly reasonable, are largely unintelligent, uneducated brutes and can occasionally behave brutally. For example, I have been ticketed for riding a bicycle through a stop sign, for riding it outside of a "bike lane", for yielding a green light to an oncoming cop cruiser (who tried to get me in a fist fight afterwards). Fortunately, judges in court (eg:
Judge Jeff Weil) overturn stupid behavior of Neanderthal cops.

There are some less than bright police officers. However, that is true of many other lines of work. Regardless, I am thankful to have all of them and wish JPD had the money to upgrade quality and increase quantity.

Here's an idea. When you get stopped by the police, pull over immediately and be polite and cooperative. Works for me every time. Cop has never laid a hand on me, or much less had to shoot.

This traffic stop happened a third of a mile outside it, and Capitol Police have zero jurisdiction there. Good luck bringing this case before a judge.

10:27, I can agree with you that some cops should not have the power they do. Two things I learned from my time in the military, 1. Some people just want to watch society burn and 2. Some people should never be charge of other human beings.
