Governor Declares State of Emergency

Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

Governor Tate Reeves issued a State of Emergency today in anticipation of winter weather expected to impact the state starting Sunday, January 14, 2024. The National Weather Services is forecasting freezing rain, sleet, and snow for a significant portion of the State, along with dangerous cold for the week.
“The state of Mississippi is proactively taking steps to prepare for freezing temperatures and severe winter weather,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “By declaring this State of Emergency, we can mobilize state assets, and better support response and recovery efforts. All Mississippians in the impacted areas are encouraged to take precautions over the next few days. Prepare your homes now for below-freezing temperatures, bring pets inside, and check in with your loved ones who are most susceptible during this frigid weather.”
This State of Emergency allows the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency to move assets throughout the state to support local governments in preparation for, response to, and recovery from the impending weather.
Governor Reeves directed all state agencies to discharge their emergency responsibilities as deemed necessary and set forth in Mississippi’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

So, are schools closed? State offices closed?

Standing by for the closing of all state offices and a full parking lot at Van's Sporting Goods.

The forecast hasn't changed for three days. If important, why wasn't this done two days ago?

And be sure to oil them hinges on the outdoor necessary-station.

So, schools are closed and we are ordered to stay at home? Like a real emergency? Or, life as usual, but Tate gets to circumvent bid laws and dole out contracts because of this upcoming “emergency”

We are under a State of Emergency for sure, but it has nothing to do with the weather.

Fill up your car with gas, too.

Don’t forget toilet paper and eggs too

@6:19 - you are confusing Tate with Chockwe. The City of Jackson is the one that maintains a continuing State of Emergency so that the Mayor can continue to issue contracts to the proper members/associates of the Family. This SOE will allow MEMA to do what it does in situations like this - or do you forget how that has been required in numerous situations with tornadoes, floods, and of course failures of Jackson to operate its water system.

Yes, schools - and city/county/state offices will be closed tomorrow - just like they already were going to be closed for MLK day. So everybody get your panties out of a wad in your crack and realize that there will likely be places that suffer power outages, road hazards, etc where the gubmint actually has to perform its gubmint services that we are all glad are there when the issues affect us or our families. For those that aren't affected and don't have family members in areas affected, you should still recognize that there are others that might actually need these things that our taxes pay for and are a proper service of your gubmint.

But if 6:19 you become aware of some contract that the state issued under this SOE as a no-bid deal and feel it was not necessary --- I trust that you will come back here and make us all aware of it. But if you don't find such to support your snarky remark, I'm sure you will keep your mouth and your ass shut.

At 10:52 - "...and city/county/state offices will be closed tomorrow - just like they already were going to be closed for MLK day."

Whether you and Kingfish like it or not, the third Monday in January has been an official state holiday in Mississippi for 7 or more decades, to celebrate the birth of Robert E. Lee, long preceding the addition of MLK.

And it will take more than Delbert and Gallo to change that.

10:52, every disaster related contract the state lets goes to politcal supporters of whichever governor is in office. Quit being lazy, it’s easy to read a campaign finance report. Besides, where to you think Chokwe and his like learned how to do this? Same happens at the federal level.

10:52 PM for the win!

6:19 PM, the idea that a leftist Democrat could ever question anyone’s integrity proves how powerful indoctrination is.

And top off the batteries in your electric vehicles!

1/15 is a state and federal holiday. It’s MLK and R E Lee day. No school. No gooberment open.

Wow! It gets cold during the...wait for it... Winter. Who knew?

@7:02, we need to also remind those who own electric vehicles to dress warm and don’t turn the heater on in the vehicle or, you will lose valuable power. In the meantime I’m heading down to QT to top off my diesel.

Will somebody post a contract or two that was awarded by the governor (any governor), during or following a disaster, that went to a donor? Thanks.

There has been a run on Miralax today.

Tick Tock - Waiting on 6:19, 6:35 and 3:44 to reveal a statewide (or any other) emergency contract awarded by a governor to a donor. Tick Tock

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
