Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann issued the following statement.
As this Legislative Session hits its stride, I am laser-focused on increasing our labor force participation rate, addressing the many and varied healthcare challenges facing our state, ensuring every child has access to a world-class education, and investing in infrastructure in our cities, counties, and State.
We are in the best financial condition Mississippi has ever been in, lowering taxes for working people, paying down almost $1 billion in State debt, and saving up for a rainy day.
Mississippi has a bright future as our schools' achievement scores are increasing and job opportunities are abundant. With two new mega projects choosing Mississippi to do business in, we are succeeding. We are not lucky — we have earned their selection of our State.
Over the past few weeks, I have been asked whether a bid for the Governor's Office is on the horizon. My response has been that my first obligation is to the job you hired me to do.
In four years, if we have positively affected the trajectory of the State and believe we can continue to do so, we will consider it.
Right now, I can definitively say this: I am honored to work for you and would not have had this opportunity without your support. As we go forward, I so value your opinions and prayers to continue to make our State better for our children and grandchildren.
