Leftenenent Governor Delbert Hosemann issued the following statement.
Continuing a tradition established last year, Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann invited Mississippi high school choirs to perform every Tuesday at noon in the Capitol Rotunda while the Legislature is in session.
Members of the Holmes County Central Singers from the Holmes County School District, directed by Pierrdro Gallion, performed on Tuesday, January 2, the opening day of the 2024 Legislative Session.
“The Session is a hectic and busy time. Listening to choirs from across the State for a moment allows us to slow down and think about the important job we have been entrusted to do,” Hosemann said. “This also gives our high school students a chance to visit our Capitol and learn about our system of government.”
The schedule is as follows (KF: Local choirs highlighted):
- *Wednesday, January 10: Jim Hill High School Choir (Jackson Public School District) (*day adjusted for the Governor’s Inauguration)
- Tuesday, January 16: Germantown High School Choir (Madison County School District)
- Tuesday, January 23: Newton County High School Choir (Newton County School District)
- Tuesday, January 30: Madison Central High School (Madison County School District)

I think this is a cool idea. The music will sound great in that building. The school kids can see the capital. Really neat idea.
Nice event for the choirs to get a chance to perform in the capitol.
Too few HS students get a chance to see the capitol building. There should be more of a youth presence there. As a member of our school's Debate Club, I was able to do Youth Congress when I was in High School and still remember.
It's irrelevant events/issues such as this on the front end of a session that often generate emergencies on the back end. Legislators - just do your jobs.
A treasure of MS is the MS Mass choir…if they still exist
This is a positive thing for MS
The Holmes County choir is incredible! 👏
I personally don’t see how a serenade from a high school choir can help these brainiacs do a better job (MS is #1 in all areas, right?), although it should be an educational / cultural field trip for the singers. Does anyone know what songs will be presented?
You only posted this to use that word.
It's a wonderful idea but I suspect the timing is bad. A choir performance during Christmas resulted in many cases of Covid.
I'm glad some of you just had " a bad cold". You probably were just briefly exposed to a small amount of the virus.
Sadly, that isn't true for everyone and this time children are being hospitalized and suffering permanent damage.
Death rates may well reach those of the 20-21 flu season.
Paxlovid may help reduce symptoms, but you still will have to let the virus run its course.
Quite a few of you may have some explaining to do to God as your convenience and personal preferences were more important to you than the lives and wellbeing of His other " children". Betting that your plead of ignorance works for Him is mighty brazen.
