State Rep's Truck Shot

A State Representative's truck was shot in Jackson two weeks ago.

The State Representative told JJ there were no bullet holes when he loaded the truck at the Capitol on August 21.  He left the Capitol and got onto I-55N at the High Street entrance ramp.  He noticed the bullet hole (pictured above) when he stopped in Canton.  MBI is investigating the shooting. There is no special legislative license plate on the truck.

JJ reported two separate shootings that took place on the same area of I-55 the same week as the shooting of the State Representative's truck.

Kingfish note:  JPD is undermanned and is incapable of patrolling the interstates.  The Governor should order the Mississippi Highway Patrol to take over the interstates of Jackson.

Yet another reason to detour around that city no matter one's destination.

At least he only has a hole missing and not the entire truck like Delbert.

Serious question, KF: why doesn't MHP already patrol the interstate through Jackson?

Anonymous said...

Is direct fire covered under comprehensive or collision?

Jackson PD does not use the interstate or MS highways? I don’t think the problem lies with the JPD but with the city and their way of governance. Bad as I hate to say it but the State of MS needs to take over the city of Jackson. But then I remember Tate went to Millsaps, UMMC could not make it in the gym business, and MDAC is getting into pig killing. We aint got long....

It is completely normal to have bullet holes in your house or vehicles if you live in Jackson. My church is at the corner of Ellis and Raymond. Ever since i have taken over the maintenance probably collected 20 or so bullets from the room and even some in the side of the building. Our roofer comes out quite often. Even the pastor's car has a bullet hole. So when you say JPD can't patrol the interstates, they can't patrol Jackson. Gunfire is just the norm.

JPD Chief Bracey Coleman's car had a bullet hole in the hood. He didn't complain! He just put a piece of electrical tape over it.

So this is in addition to the crazy guy downtown and the gunfight in the interstate between. Lemuria andnwater works curve where two folks had gunshot damage?

Anonymous said...

The state can’t afford having troopers patrol the interstates. They are severely and chronically understaffed.

Go to nextdoor and read the posts from Ridgewood Park residents about the shootings. Poor folks are frazzled.

One good one to read is Ken Wilson. He totally gets it.

Plate armor is a necessity right now and will be even more important in the future. Unfortunately the prices are sky high right now. I'm so glad I'm a prepper. This has all been predictable to those who know history. Y'all ain't seen nothing yet. Just wait until the mini ice age starts and the crops fail.

KEN WILSON for Mayor! Don't know if he knows much about how to run a city, but neither does current mayor or predecessors. At least we would have someone at the helm with common sense

State law prohibits the Highway Patrol from using radar on any interstate highway within the corporate limits of a city whose police department is permitted to use radar on the interstate. Any city with a population of 15,000 can use radar on any interstate highway inside its boundaries. It's actually a misdemeanor crime for a Trooper to use his radar inside such a city on the interstate. So, while MHP could patrol the interstate inside Jackson and take enforcement actions, it could not use its radar equipment.

4:19 - which of those shots at waterworks curve are you talking about? I read one social media post from a "GUY" talking about his being shot at, and then three days later read exactly the same description (including being a former LEO) from a "WOMAN" telling the same story. Made me believe it was made up, since the same thing couldn't have happened to two different former LEO's at the same place and in the same manner.

I could have, and would have, believed either one of the reports; but when the second story came about, decided it was urban lore.

@3:37 - LOL Check your uninsured motorist coverage, too.

It is happening more than is publicized.

Do State Senators and Representatives still have car tags designating them as such? If so it's probably time to do away with them. I know they carry special privileges when the legislature is session but it seems they may be making them targets.

Kingfish said...

No special plate. I should have included that bit of info. I added it to the post. Thanks.

Fake news

The MHP needs and should take over all, not just through Jackson, Interstate and state highways and roadway traffic/accident enforcement. Isn't their job HIGHWAY PATROL?

Anonymous said...

MHP is too busy assigning protection details to people... like the AG for instance

"The state can’t afford having troopers patrol the interstates. They are severely and chronically understaffed." If so, then shut them down and save the taxpayer money. All I ever see them do is run up and down the road in excess of the posted speed. I know, bring on the expected, They are going somewhere to a call. Yeah, wonder what her or his name is the call.

" All I ever see them do is run up and down the road in excess of the posted speed. "

Yep.

And their argument is always . . . we (the public) . . . don't now why they are driving so fast.
Then I see the same trooper at a connivence store a few miles up the highway.

It's always a young one.

Chest "bowed out", smokey bear hat tilited down . . . flirting with the little connivence store cashier.

Years ago, MHP troopers were held in the same respect as the USMC.

Not anymore.

Hopefully, new leadership can change their current image.

I had a hard time believing the comment at 4:43 is accurate, so I looked it up. Turns out that analysis appears to be correct. Miss. Code Ann. §§ 63-3-519, 63-3-521. If we're off here, someone please enlighten us.

The AG's security detail is staffed by her own special agents, not the MHP.

The state needs to take over the court system in Jackson. It appears that is a much bigger problem than the police. Feel had a chance to take over the school system but fumbled the ball.

Lynn Fitch needs a security detail? Is she afraid the Chinese have a contract on her? Can't think of anything else she's done other than say she was going to sue China.

Anonymous said...

Fake news or serial shooter? This makes the third story now. Sooo he got in the truck at the Capitol drove to Canton via 55 (About a 30 minute drive) and this happened in Jackson? I call BS. So someone was trailing him and stuck their arm out of the window and fired a round into the back of his truck? We’re there multiple rounds and only one hit his truck? How did he not notice? That’s a pretty big hole and would be a big caliber.

Anonymous said...

"she was going to sue China."

I had forgotten about that.

Are there any updates on:

Lynn Fitch v. People's Republic of China

??

Anonymous said...

728 ... you sure about that?? If that’s true it’s new; when did that happen? They were MHP at first.

Anonymous said...

Freaking radar is supposed to fix this?

Anonymous said...

KF, any updates on any of these shootings? I know you vet things well, so I'm one who believes they happened. This is really concerning, so any update you can provide on these would be helpful. Thanks.

What is a CONNIVENCE STORE?

And, to another poster, I'd like to point out, that when someone told you to write 'WE'RE', instead of 'WERE', they didn't mean you should do that all the time. Sometimes, just-plain 'WERE' is correct.

Hmm. Is there not quite a bit of road between I-55 and Canton that happens to be outside the corporate limits of Jackson? I know it's cool and all to blame Jackson for everything though...

@2:24 PM - thanks, and while we're at it, why do people insert an apostrophe before "s" in plural nouns?

Examples:

Correct usage: The car's driver...the home's owner.

Incorrect usage: Look at the car's... I toured some home's today.

7:28, The AG's security has been provided by his internal staff for decades, but once Ms. Fitch moved into the Sillers Building she immediately demanded the same type protection as the Speaker and LG had been receiving -- because, you know -- she is important. And she might be attacked by someone that doesn't like her actions on, you know, whatever she might sooner or later take action on.

So far, she hasn't issued any opinions, or done much of anything except praise trying to pass the law she promoted as a campaign issue for 'equal pay'. Never bothered to see that the current federal law already provided that, but who's counting.

And I can't figure why that effort would rise to the level of her needing security - hers or from DPS. Otherwise, what has she done that would justify it?

But - she's a woman you know. And if they guys get it, she is entitled. (Catch that word, its the key. She is "entitled".)

And I think she now has DPS security provided.

Attorney General doesn't need a security detail.

Anonymous said...

@6:45, in the federal government it's called "detail envy," and several of Obama's staff were assigned security details at great taxpayer expense simply because they whined about it.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
