The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 426 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 39* new deaths. The total number of cases is 87,805. The virus has caused 2,623 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 74,098 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt factor is 0.83.
The big chart shows really good news. There are 327 fewer hospitalizations than there were three weeks ago. ICUs and vents show the same progress.
* The 39 deaths include 12 derived from a review of death certificates.

learn to live with the mask on. it clearly works and with the AstraZenica vaccine trial grinding to a halt...expect the virus to be around for a long time...
we will not overwhelm the health system with masks on. great news indeed!

Why weren’t people fined for violating the laws at the party shown on TV with JSU students for Large gathering outside?
Masks do not stop the spread of flu or corona. Might as well wear them, what the hell it makes everyone feel good. The only thing that prevents spread of this type of illness is strict social isolation, stay in the house type of isolation, quarantine and even then it may not help.
Here's what important. Please not that the death rate reflects a post hoc revision of 30% of the reported deaths. How many were changed the other way from a death due to corona to something else? These local statistics are flawed...badly. If the local stats are tortured imagine what happens to the national stats.
The pattern shows a downward trend. Good. That's what happens anyway.
PS You don't have to wear masks in a cholera epidemic. Just stick the masks up your butt.
I wish we as a state (including the Guv.) would have fully embraced mask/distancing in the late spring into summer instead of griping about "muh freedums" - we would be so much better off today numbers wise.
I'm really encouraged by the hospitalization numbers. They've dropped almost 50% from their peak of close to 1,000 where they stagnated from the end of July to August 15. Roughly coincides with the timing of Taters statewide mask mandate. Death rates have also taken a tumble in the last couple of weeks.
Maybe we can get to the point where we are just average as far as COVID goes. We're not there yet, but we're a lot closer than we were.
Hawaii, Japan, Peru, and the Philippines all had some of the highest mask mandate compliance early on, all had the same case increase pattern that happened in most locations. Y'all keep telling yourselves how wonderful you are for doing exactly what the experts (at least the ones you agreed with) told you to. Mississippi's mandate wasn't even put in place until the cases were already coming down. We did not do anything to this virus by changing the direction of our breath from straight out, to straight up and/or to the sides. Thanks for sharing @1:14.
We are on the backside of the curve, both in Mississippi and nationally. We are close to herd immunity. Lockdowns don’t work and the data proves it.

I, and I am sure many readers here, wish you would quit posting the same garbage over and over and over again. Go back to rope sanding.
"Why weren’t people fined for violating the laws at the party shown on TV with JSU students for Large gathering outside?" You serious? You know the answer to that, and if not.....
12:24: The AIER article you cite is that of a very conservative liberterian group that doesn't like interventions to deal with the virus of any kind, including the initial lockdowns, and then the moves to social distancing and masks, and any other attempt by government to stem the virus other than letting the virus do its thing. Not credible to any anyone actually holding responsibility for protecting the health of the public.
3:20 Lockdowns do work and the data proves it. Look at the data from the middle of March to the end of April. Across the country and around the world the disease rates decreased, even here in Mississippi.
The real issue is lockdowns can't last forever and we have to continue working. What people do then determines how the disease progresses. In many European and Asian countries the citizens engaged in reasonable actions. They maintained social distancing, wore masks, and didn't start heading back into unnecessarily crowded environments. As a result they have generally kept it controlled.
Here in America, on the other hand, once the end of April rolled around the Covidiots just went back to life like before. Heading to parties, beaches, weddings, funerals, picnics, gyms, and bars with a decent percentage refusing to wear a mask because of "muh freedumb". That is why the U.S. has experienced a ten-fold worse result in infections and per-capita deaths than most of the developed world since.
Any reasonable review of the evidence will show lockdowns and mitigation do work, but I'll freely admit a full lockdown of more than a couple of weeks is not possible. The disease runs rampant when people refuse to participate in the lockdowns and mitigation.
I am neither a “Covidiot“ nor a “Coronabro”. I try to read and make up my mind based on unbiased facts and science when they are available (which is admittedly scarce these days) but I do wonder why folks think name calling and repeated insults are effective ways to change the minds of your opposition and make them see things from their perspective.
How many times has that ever swayed anyone?
Seems folks have made hate into a sport, in lieu of actual real sports.
"We are close to herd immunity." I'm not even going to waste time refuting this statements with facts/data. I'll just call you a dumb-ass and leave it at that.
