The Antar Lumumba administration clamped down on all crime information despite repeated proclamations about being more transparent on crime. The city of Jackson posted weekly crime reports on its website for years. However, the crime reports disappeared from the website for nearly a year after Mayor Lumumba assumed the purple. The weekly Comstat reports returned in November 2018 but disappeared in February.
The administration announced (the same day this website reported the removal of the crime reports) in February:
True to its word, Jackson posted the new reports in February but has not updated them. The most recent crime report is posted below.
The Jackson Police Department is in the process of transitioning from Comstat to UCR (Uniform Crime Report) which will contain the numbers reported to the FBI. These reports will be posted on the 15th of every month.
Such behavior is expected as Antar's father removed the crime reports from the city website immediately after he took office. Why are the Lumumbas opposed to allowing citizens to see crime reports? Yours truly submitted a public records request on September 10 for the most recent UCR reports. The city violated the law and didn't provide the report until this week. Unfortunately, the "most recent" was from July.
The so-called report provides no information on the year-to-date statistics. Check out this page from the Comstat reports that JPD used for years.
Notice how one can compare the week reported to the same week of the previous year. One can do the same for the same month and the year to date. The YTD comparison provides the total number and type of criminal incidents as well as the same information from the prior year. Thus one can determine whether Jackson crime is improving or getting worse. Check out this page from the UCR reports:
The precinct report will give all kinds of groovy information.
However, the report only shows the crime statistics for July, no YTD information is included. The information for July 2018 is included but that information lacks YTD data as well. Want to know how many murders or aggravated assaults took place in Jackson this year? Tough luck. It is impossible to determine whether crime is increasing or decreasing in Jackson thanks to the Lumumba administration.
Kingfish note: Once is a coincidence, twice is a pattern. Make no mistake, the removal of most crime data is exactly what the Lumumba administration desires. However, this is what the voters of Jackson wanted. Welcome to transparency in Jackson.

I voted for this clown although I am a Republican and live in Jackson. Believe Me when I tell you that I certainly won't male that mistake again. He's a know it all young ass... full of himself. You know chokwe you can learn much more if you listen rather than run you mouth you spoiled child
Readers should do their research. Don't assume Antar is stupid or incompetent. He knows history. He knows all about communist revolution. His father was a revolutionary. You have to do your own research. Hard to get a comment approved with references to revolutionary Black nationalist activities outside Mississipi. But you can find it on wikipedia.
The less information the public has access to, the easier it is for politicians to sell a narrative. A common excuse is that only "experts" have enough knowledge to properly analyze the data and we rubes (aka taxpayers and voters) don't have enough brain cells to understand the reporting.
This does not even begin to address the crime hidden by non enforcement or the pencil whipping of serious crimes into lesser crimes on paper.
Perception of a safe city. #kush
Couldn't you just put together the year to date totals through a spreadsheet by requesting all of the months? It's not fun work, but it's doable.
Yeah but the cars look cool with the orange stripes.
Not a fan of this move. It’s always in the best interest of the people to have transparency and know the real issues. It’s a bit hard to take this site’s whining seriously though in light of their ability to overlook much worse behavior from the crooks they support.
@1:06
It's different when white men do it. It just is.
While you’re doing research, check into what happened in Jackson several years ago with the Republic of New Africa and how Chockwa’s dad was involved. A number of things happened and it was not pretty. That acorn doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
@11:22
What does that have to do with anything? No one said he was dumb... I said he did as a leader. These are 2 very different things. I know chokwe and went to St. Joe high school with him.
@3:24
Unless someone @You then you aren't being addressed. Not everything is about you, okay? Cool your moobs.
This happens in all cities, big and small. LEO's will tell you that crime is frequently not reported or incorrectly reported by the administrations so as not to scare the public. Gulfport and Jackson just have so much of it that event when they hide issues there is still a ton reported.
Sun Herald news recently had an editorial saying they would not focus as much on crime on the coast because business leaders didn't want the focus to be so negative.
Hattiesburg and the USM campus are one of the worst offenders about not reporting crime to the public.
It's all about the money and perception.
" I voted for this clown although I am a Republican "
Why ?
" Don't assume Antar is stupid or incompetent. He knows history. He knows all about communist revolution. His father was a revolutionary. You have to do your own research. Hard to get a comment approved with references to revolutionary Black nationalist activities outside Mississippi. "
Very true.
He also sports an avant-garde haircut.
" Perception of a safe city. #kush "
Most accurate comment thus far.
Hashtag Kush . . . . . LMAO.
Mayor Choke Me's 'peace in the streets' & 'unity in the community' bulls--t talking points must mean there's no crime worth reporting.
Surely no one is surprised. The city is run by DEMOCRATS!
Lumumba Administration Hides most everything.... Truth about water meters, truth about paving projects and where the money went, truth about crime, truth about most everything... Transparent as Mississippi Mud...
Mayor Lumumba is the Master of Mediocrity and Jacksonians are his slaves.
remember, it only took 22,000 some odd votes to put him in office as the mayor

Whole 12 min video is spot on, but if time stretched, start watching at 5 min mark. Pretty much sums it up.
In the past you had to fulfill at least half of your campaign promises and pave a few major streets to get re-elected. He must show that he can pave streets and deal with other public works issues like the computer system integration at the Water Dept. and grow water revenue while not offending the poor electorate in being heavy-handed on negotiating past due accounts. He must manage the consent decree, give a solid delivery of public services for the next year, and be lenient in the enforcement of the healthcare muzzling of free speech at the abortion clinic.
Hopefully a viable candidate steps forward in 2021 to unseat him. He is a pompous individual, Jackson needs a different direction ASAP. Failed Mayor after failed Mayor, the city is broke and needs effective leadership. The hiding of crime stats an attempt to mislead the public. The murder rate has picked up since he took office.
I guess Antar reads JJ because the UCR got released yesterday. Mayor Lumumba also did a puff interview with WLBT about the Zoo.
So if a democrat in power lies to the public - bad
If a republican in power lies to the public - not bad
I got it now
Thanks for your glaring hypocrisy
