The father of Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture Andy Gipson was killed by a Simpson County deputy today. Sources said Harry Gipson discharged a firearm in the presence of the deputies. The Commissioner issued a statement:
"My father passed away tragically after a years-long struggle with a brain injury and related illness. Please pray for our family and we ask for a period of privacy to grieve."The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation issued the following statement.
At the request of the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the circumstances that led to an officer involved shooting that occurred Thursday morning in Simpson County. All investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney’s office throughout the process for consideration and review. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will refrain from further comment regarding this ongoing case in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.Kingfish note: Commissioner Gibson released his father's obituary.

Rev. Harry Noble Gipson, 70, formerly of Brandon and Braxton, Mississippi, passed away on June 6, 2019.
Born June 22, 1948, Brother Gipson was the son of the late Rev. J. N. and Minnie Lee Gipson.
Bro. Gipson was a
successful homebuilder by trade, and a bi-vocational minister who
pastored several churches in central Mississippi including Gum Springs
Baptist Church, Braxton, MS, Providence Baptist Church, Pearl,
Mississippi, New
Liberty Baptist Church, Morton, Mississippi, The Living Way Baptist
Church, Brandon, MS, and Emmanuel Baptist Church, Pearl, MS. During his
ministry, Bro. Gipson led countless people to saving faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ. Over the years he also served
as a missionary during several evangelistic missions around the world.
Bro. Gipson had a vision to build the Hilltop Memorial Children’s Ranch
near Braxton, Mississippi and had a heart to see the Children’s Ranch
operate to reach children of all backgrounds.
Even though in recent
years he experienced traumatic brain injury as a result of several major
accidents including a mule wagon wreck, a serious fall off of a
forklift, and a life-threatening motorcycle wreck, Bro. Gipson continued
to
stay active in ministry in various ways. He loved all people and
personally helped countless individuals in need.
He is survived by his
devoted wife of 50+ years, Glenda Cliburn Gipson and their three boys,
Dr. J. Scott Gipson (Heather) of San Angelo, TX, Commissioner Andy
Gipson (Leslie) of Braxton, MS and Detective Matt Gipson of Braxton, MS,
and his eight grandchildren, Isaac, Daniel, Nate and Abi Rose of San
Angelo, TX and Joseph, Benjamin, Abigail and Sarah of Braxton, MS. He is
also survived by three siblings, brother, Larry Gipson (the late Sharon
Gipson) and sisters, Wanda (Charlie) McLemore
and Cindy Gipson and his niece and nephews, Cindy Lynne, John Larry and
Bennett. He will be remembered most of all for his faith in Jesus
Christ, love of the Bible, the Word of God, and his love for his family.
Funeral services will be
handled by Chancellor Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 3:30
p.m. on Sunday, June 9th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence with
visitation preceding 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers,

I do not know this family, but it is a horrific tragedy for Mr. Gipson, his family, and for the officer. Prayers for all involved.

I’m white and tired of all the racial dividers. I tend to vote republican mostly because I agree with more of their ideas. You know, I have a feeling that if this were a elderly black man with dementia or a brain injury, the NAACP, CNN, and MLK, Jr. himself, would be calling for this officer’s name and the resignation of everyone employee in Simpson County. This is real life people. A tragedy that should be considered worse than a young black person, antagonizing police, getting shot. Tragedy for all involved. No matter what color you are; about all anyone is ever gonna say when you are gone is, Well, he was a good guy and didn’t deserve to die. Sucks, but true.

The deputies were serving papers to pick the man up and commit him. The family should never have done that without advising of the guns or taking the guns away in the first place.

If you had any idea how vague "brain injury" is you wouldn't act like a goddamn retard. Not to mention everything I've heard about mental illness from my fiancee working in Rankin county in the mental health half this fucking state should be institutionalized. In fact I've had an elderly relative develop schizophrenia and had his guns locked away by other relatives.
Perhaps I should have finished the sentence with "before drawing conclusions", but in my naiveté I thought that would be implied and idiots wouldn't come out of the woodwork. So please next time you feel like flying of the handle while driving across the Reservoir consider stopping the car and throwing yourself over the railing. You'd do this state a favor.
The family has essentially admitted that this man had what had become long-term mental problems.
If it's true that "the deputies were serving papers to pick the man up and commit him" (as 3:58 p.m. on June 6 stated), then exactly what was it that had happened just recently to finally set that decision in motion?
What's really scary is the possibility that the PUBLIC may have unknowingly been in danger from this man for a LONG time (days, weeks, months, or years?), that is, LONG BEFORE the deputies were ever sent there to pick him up.
I can't help but wonder EXACTLY what has been the behind-the-scenes history with this man that the family has possibly been trying to keep secret.
Had this man's family tried to remove any and all guns from his possession BEFORE the deputies were sent there to pick him up? Or was the family too afraid of him by that time to try to do that?
I really feel for that deputy.
How very, very sad that there are those on either end of the spectrum who will use a tragedy such as this to further their agendas. Our thoughts and prayers are with this family, the officer involved as well as others impacted by this awful situation.

To judge the Family for obtaining help through our Chancery Court System is such a comment sprung from either ignorance or just ill intent. The Man needed help and the public needed protection. If you are not a mental health professional then there is nothing you can do. The Officer is trained and followed his training, You can bet our Police Officers only want to go home after their shift and be with their Families. No Officer ever wants to use deadly force. You were not in his shoes. They have great courage and dedication. The Officers and the Family need our Prayers. Our Agriculture Commissioner works hard six and seven days a week for the People of Mississippi. I suspect he got his work ethic and morals from his Father before he suffered trauma to his mental abilities. No one should be criticized here and all need our collective support and Prayers. Nothing to do with race. Nothing to do with Politics. Everything to do with tragedies in every Family affected. I truly hope life does not allow a tragic event to turn anyone's Family upside down. If it should, then everyone, I expect, would see this differently and with compassion.
Leave out of this story who his family was. That's irrelevant (and it got at least ten minutes of hand-wringing from the host of the JT show due to who the man's son is). Forget the part about prior instances of behavior. Dismiss from your thoughts the information about brain injury. And, of course, race has nothing to do with any of this.
Now, all you have left is officers being dispatched to a private residence with warrant in hand. Somebody had an obligation to either determine or report the existence of guns at that location. Somebody had an obligation to either determine or report the possibility of violence or an uncooperative response from the man named on the warrant.
More than in any other situation of police action, domestic service of warrants and responding to such calls is the leading cause either of officers or the target of the warrant being shot, injured or killed.
If I had to guess, I'd bet guns hadn't been removed because of the family's resistance to "denying his 2nd Amendment right", that being so damn important to him as an American. No need to consider specific circumstances that may keep him from protecting himself from all those threats to life and liberty! He lost both, and, like the bumper sticker so proudly states: they got to pry it from his cold, dead hand. What a shame.
If you allow the mentally ill to have a gun someone is going to end up dead. You are only hearing about this case because of who his son is.
Most cops don't discriminate you point a gun at them, it's simple your dead. It's a pain he has to live with the rest of his life.
