$20,000 Bond for Capital Murder?

Attorney Warren Martin issued the following statement:

Today, Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Wootten set a $20,000.00 bond for murder suspect T'Quaris Jones. Jones was indicted for the April 30, 2018 murder of Justin Warnsley Harper. According to the indictment, Jones shot Harper multiple times without the authority of law. Judge Wootten denied the State's request to increase Jones' bond or require Jones to wear an ankle monitor.

My law firm has been retained to represent the family of Mr. Justin Harper. The family is deeply hurt and disappointed by Judge Wootten's decision to allow T'Quaris Jones to remain free on a $20,000.00 bond for a charge of first degree murder. This situation highlights one of the fundamental problems with the Hinds County criminal justice system. We will closely monitor the prosecution of this case to ensure that the Harper family receives the justice it desperately deserves.

There seems to be no end to this idiocy. What's the reason for it? Low bail, released on own recognizance, prayers and poems for criminals, catch and release....What The Fuck?

Anonymous said...

I'm surprised it's that much.

WOW & not in a good way. That is pitiful & explains so much about what is going on in the city of Jackson. No value placed on human life. That judge needs to be GONE.

I've got a new slogan of the City of Jackson
"Jackson Mississippi, The City that got what it asked for"

Anonymous said...

You all seem to forget- "It's OUR TIME now!"

Anonymous said...

If I am correct - that means the defendant had to come up with 2k to walk free on a murder charge. Yikes

@3:41...What's Next? Zero bond? Send 'em back home to Ahn-tee's porch?

Someone needs to look into Judge Adrienne Wooten. She is a defense attorney on the bench, making faces of disgust at victim’s, and gleefully celebrating when the guilty are let loose. If all of Jackson could see what was happening in that courtroom they would be appalled. Judge Wooten only has sympathy for violent criminals. Bad things are happening in there. The people of Jackson deserve so much better.

This kind of thing was predicted when Wooten was elected.

Anonymous said...

Give Wooten some time. This will prove to be one of her best rulings.

Anonymous said...

Who was Jones' attorney? Wooten will help her friends and dead people don't vote anyway.

Anonymous said...

Another blessing.

Two for one special said...

When he murders again while on bail, the judge should be liable.

Anonymous said...

No amount of happy talk from Jackson apologists needed.

Anonymous said...

@4:38

Who told you dead people don't vote? Man, are you misinformed!! You don't know Hinds County and Canton, MS democrats.

Anonymous said...

The last judge election sealed Hinds County’s fate. 7 radicals now “serve” as county and circuit court judges. Get out while you still can.

Anonymous said...

Couple of things should be noted:

1) Did she set the bond or did she allow the bond to remain that had been put in place by a lower court?
2) If she allowed the bond that had been put in place by a lower court, there was nothing wrong with her leaving the bond amount in place if the defendant had stayed out of trouble and appeared for court, because that means the bond is working. You cant just increase a bond because you don't like if its working.
3) We know nothing about the evidence. You all would be surprised about how many people are indicted and the charges get dropped, remanded, or reduced. That's not just Hinds County, that's every county. You cant treat a person like they are guilty just because they are indicted.

I am an attorney who has practiced in front of Judge Wooten, she does send people to prison, has sent some of my clients. She holds court on a regular basis and makes people do their job. No person who has sat in her court room believes she is in there just turning people loose.

May Karma rule and those involved in this outrageous action get what they deserve. Hopefully it will be bad for them.

Anonymous said...

Wooten is an idiot. She does not know the law, but is quick to tell you that it is her name outside the door of the courtroom. She is vindictive when challenged, so much so that she threatens to withhold evidence or allow inadmissible evidence if crossed.
Kingfish, I challenge you to sit in and observe! All the voters who cast their vote for her need to pray they do not become a victim in any case before her! She is NOT the answer to cleaning up crime in Hinds County!

Earlier this week Hinds County racists were labeling Madison/Rankin county judges as racist for daring to hand out stiff sentences for serious crime. I commented that thugs should stay in Hinds county where racist judges don't believe the little darlings should be dealt with as firmly.

Apparently this thug read my post.

Have the Martin Tripletts made good on their million dollar pledge to Jackson State?

Adrianne is a absolute joke. She knows the law about as much as a 1st semester law school student... it's sad I know. Anyway, she is what she is.

Friday is the summer solstice. People you haven't seen anything yet. Wait till July & Augest gets here. There will Mayhem in the street of Jackson & the overflow cities of Ridgeland, Flowood, Pearl, Byram, & Terry.

@6:57. How long y’all been married?

Anonymous said...

6:57 YOU ARE CORRECT!

I was in court today. The bond was set by the lower court and the defendant appeared. ADA stood up and requested an increase and Judge Wooten asked repeatedly why it should be increased. The only explanation given by the ADA was “because it’s murder”... Judge Wooten gave the ADA every opportunity to give a reason, any reason, and none was offered. Ultimately Judge Wooten said that she was not going to raise the bond previously set by another Judge without any reason given by the State.

Additionally, she denied bond on multiple cases today all when she had the opportunity. Today was my first day in front of Judge Wooten because I quit taking Weil cases years ago because he was such an a-hole... I was actually impressed with her once she finally arrived in the courtroom.

All but impossible for one "culture" to impose their definition of civility on the other "culture".

Anonymous said...

Will someone who practices criminal law please help me out here? Why isn't just about everyone (absent extraordinary circumstances) who is charged with murder considered to be a potential danger to the community, and therefore denied bond?

She is the WORST thing to happen in Hinds County! People need to look into her and quick before it is too late. She is not fair or impartial and does not know the law. She rules based on her mood that day. Additionally she shows up to court 40 minutes late sometimes, talk about a waste of county resources. This will not be last time she is in the news for nonsense! People of Hinds County need to get her off the bench ASAP before any more killers go free. She has one goal in her mind to clear the docket and she does not care how it gets done and who gets hurt in the process.

Anonymous said...

I have been in front of Judge Wooten multiple times since she took the bench. She has always been well prepared, measured in her rulings (some of have gone my way, some have not), and shown a proper temperament. My experience has not matched the negative that people keep posting on here (i.e., she doesn't know the law, she is one-sided, etc.). I give both she and Judge Peterson high marks for how they are running their court rooms and managing their dockets.

Anonymous said...

She also refuses to issue warrants on or revoke probationers who violate probation by committing new crimes.

Anonymous said...

Not to be the contrarian here but a comment said that the ADA was not able to give the judge a reason to increase the bail. Seems like that's the person to be mad at.

Either there's a presumption of innocence and a right to bail or there's not. One of the fruits of low admission standards to law school, a drive-by Bar exam and a state bar that poorly regulates the practice is lousy lawyers. Maybe the ADA is one of them. Then again maybe there's something wrong with the case. You know it's possible to have a guilty defendant and a lousy case.

Anybody who lives or works in Jackson knows full well what they have bought into. It's a crime-ridden cesspool with poor public services, law and order among them.

Quit whining. Move to Orlando or to some other place where public officials are held to a higher standard. For crying out loud look at the governor, the AG.

Allow me to remind you good folk carping about this on going "catch and release" program in Jackson that these buffoons running the Hinds County Courts were elected by the voters of Hinds County. Over and over. The majority of Hinds county voters must be comfortable with the way things are going. Otherwise...

11:09 PM - Judge Wooten, I didn't know that you participated here. Welcome aboard.

Anonymous said...

8:57 and 11:09 - Here's a fair rendition of the comments you will make (or email) to these two judges: "Hi Judge. Did you see the positive remarks I made about you on that Jambalaya blog page Yesterday? Just wanted you to know I think you're the best thing to happen in Jackson/Hinds in many years. Look forward to appearing before you again soon."

Anonymous said...

Everyone who has ever worked with Wooten says she's crazy. Just ask her former colleagues in the legislature. They were thrilled to be rid of her.

Anonymous said...

Jackson is in the express lane on the highway to municipal hell. Courts, roads, general crime. Oh and apparently Ridgeland is picking up right where Jackson leaves off...

Anonymous said...

Jackson's crime coming to Ridgeland and Clinton? Who knew? Never saw that coming.

Lock and load. Build the walls.

My experience with Wooten as a judge thus far, on civil cases only, is that she tries to do what is right but has a difficult time understanding and applying the law. She also is already having a tough time keeping up with her docket. But these issues are not unique to her among the circuit judges in Hinds County.

Anonymous said...

Judge Wooten is a breath of fresh air following eight years of Jeff Weill, a person who truly lacked understanding of law given his many many many reversals. I do not practice in her courtroom but have sat in several times and observed motion hearings etc. She is thoughtful and gives complete deference to the law, regardless of how offensive it may be to some people. Our system depends upon following the laws that are enacted by our legislature and the rules promulgated by our Supreme Court. If you don't like the laws, clean house in the legislature but don't blame a judge for what she is bound to do. That goes for the rules and the high court judges that write them. 9:22, not all murder defendants are dangerous... consider how many castle doctrine cases get charged and indicted in Hinds County where the defendant was defending himself and his family at his own home yet the DA chooses to indict him for murder... juries usually acquit these cases in the end of the day and there is not a reason in the world a defendant under these kinds of circumstances should sit in jail for three to four years waiting for a trial.
Good job Judge Wooten... keep following the law!

@12:06 no need to be anonymous Alison Kelly. We know that’s you. Butt buddies with the judge and heavily donated to her campaign. Your views should not be counted as you also doesn’t know the law.

Some of you people need to be careful with your words in questioning Judge Wooten's performance. It appears that some of you are implying that a black woman is somehow interior in her abilities. Do not mistake her shortcomings of vocabulary or grammar as inferiority. She is just as capable as a white male who speaks in the white vernacular.

Alison Kelly said...

12:06 this actually is Alison Kelly...interesting take on my relationship with a Judge Wooten... I met her for the first time following a trial by Chris Routh from our office... I introduced myself at the bench.
And no to those of you who wander blindly in the land of the uninformed, I did not make any contribution to her campaign.

That's what she said. Point for AK.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
