Once eliminated in the United States, the Measles virus is mounting a comeback. The Ccnter for Disease Control said there are now 465 cases of Measles in 19 states. The Wall Street Journal reported today:
The spread of measles is accelerating in the U.S., driven mostly by an outbreak in New York City, data released Monday show, signaling the difficulties public-health officials are confronting as they try to stop the spread of the highly contagious disease....
Most of the cases involve children, the agency said. And though the cases span 19 states, many are tied to an outbreak among Orthodox Jews in New York City.
The twin developments suggest the measles virus, which authorities declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, has surged as a result of exposures overseas and then been transmitted among populations that have shunned vaccinations. Health authorities are now trying both to halt the virus’s spread and correct misperceptions about vaccinations.
The New York City outbreak began last fall after an unvaccinated child was infected on a trip to Israel, where there has been a surge in measles. The New York City outbreak then went on to fuel a large cluster of cases outside Detroit as well, according to the CDC and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services...
In New York City, nearly 8,000 people have been exposed, Dr. Messonnier said. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said its disease detectives are tracking down those exposed to try to prevent further spread..... Rest of article.
The CDC provides more information about the Measles outbreak on its website.

How many orthodox jews reside in Rankin County?
Sad, that a few non-vaxxer's put the whole city of New York at risk & cause serious harm to children. This is not a freedom issue, but, a serious health issue.
Well, when the President himself thinks vaccines and autism are linked, public health officials have an uphill battle.
With a titanic's worth of illegals running around almost any given county in the country, I am surprised this is the only "problem the cdc is reporting.
Don't think the problem is going to fix itself or get any better with the open border and all of the various un-vaccinated diseases being carried in by the "immigrants". BUILD THE WALL - just like all the politicians who are against the Wall have around their compounds.
It would seem like there are more than a few non-vaxxer's.
People who have been vaccinate should be safe.
Good article in the Saturday WSJ on the predisposition of too many people to reject scientific expertise. Included is a great comment by Isaac Asimov:
To this unscrupulous dissemination of “alternative facts” one could add the willful receptivity of the audience to such bogus narratives, which Isaac Asimov attributed to a longstanding “cult of ignorance” in our nation, a “strain of anti-intellectualism . . . nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’ ”
It's the illegals, not the vaxers! Get a grip people!
3:09, travelers to/from other countries (mostly legal) provide the seed, but the anti-vaxers provided fertile ground for it to take root and spread.
Some people can't be vaccinated for various reasons, such as auto-immune conditions. Infants under 1 year of age also can't be vaccinated. Such populations depend on 'herd' immunity to protect them.
The vast majority of the victims of these outbreaks have been young children, and several outbreaks occurred in areas that have populations of anti-vax people, and laws that allow children to go to school without proof of vaccination. This is one area where Mississippi is actually doing it right, and our outbreaks (or lack thereof) reflect that.
Shame on the anti-vaxers. Their 'right to choose' is affecting innocent people and babies who can't.
They were the death of the MS tea party. Once the anti-vaxer kooks found a home there, sane people backed away. Taxed Enough Already was a topic that needed attention, but the anti-tax agenda got pushed aside by fringe social issues like this one.
The Calls Are Coming from Inside the House!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/438150-new-york-officials-warn-parents-to-stop-holding-measles-parties-amid-latest
"New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot on Tuesday warned parents in the city not to hold so-called "measles parties" as officials work to counter an outbreak of the disease.
Barbot warned that some parents have had "measles parties" to have their children infected with the disease in an effort to immunize them naturally, rather than through a vaccination, according to BuzzFeed News.
"We are concerned about families having measles parties," Barbot said at a news conference, according to Fox News.
Barbot added that she doesn't want more individuals exposed to measles because of the practice.
"There are many more individuals who are living with chronic diseases, who are surviving cancer, and so we don't want children or adults to be unnecessarily exposed to measles," she said."
NEED SOME ARRESTS FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT!!!
Anti science religious zealots that "educate" their children in religious schools.
What could go wrong?
What is the difference in the people who simply do not want to get their children the shots and people who, for some reason, do not get their children the shots. Both are doing what they think is the best for their child. One group are called non=vaxxers and threatened for their beliefs and the other side depend on others to get the shots so they will not have to give their children the shots.
Those of you blaming illegals or visitors from other countries
are ignorant.
No American could get measles or any other disease for which there are vaccinations if you have been vaccinated!
I have no problem requiring anyone travelling here to be appropriately immunized before being allowed to visit.
This problem was created by anti-vaxxers who fell for an unproven theory from someone totally incompetent to theorize. Their anecdotal , unsupportable " theory" went viral and was picked up by those who get money for the idiots who click onto their bogus sites.
All the fools who started this had to do ( and a scientist would do it first) is look at the difference in the rates of autism in each State. Then look at vaccination requirements. IF vaccinations were the " cause", those States with strict requirements would have the highest incidence.
If you don't understand vaccinations and how they work and that a small percentage of people can have allergic reactions to ANY medical treatment, you are beyond gullible and a mark for every con artist in the world.
That's what happens when you make decisions based on " feelings" and " intuition" rather than cold ,hard facts!
