Media nutjob Keith Olbermann went too far yesterday when he encouraged his fans to make a Mississippi hunter's life "a living hell" on Twitter. What drew the ire of Die Ulbernutt is a Clarion-Ledger story about -gasp- hunting.
Die Ulbernutt also demanded the Clarion-Ledger fire the reporter. Editor Samuel Hall stood up to the bully:
The poor Hunter's Facebook page is predictably filled with nasty comments directed at him. The Gannett newspaper reported today:
Waltman said he is receiving verbal attacks due to Olbermann's actions. While no one directly threatened to harm him, some said they hope harm comes his way.
"I didn't like the idea of that too much," Waltman said. "I don't think a lot of people would like to be called out on social media like that, especially (by someone) with so many followers."They text me all kinds of stuff. If he (Olbermann) hadn't done that, none of this would have happened."Waltman said he had never heard of the ESPN commentator and former MSNBC political host prior to Olbermann's attack on Twitter.Waltman said now he considers Olbermann a threatening individual. Rest of article.
There is actually a remedy for what Die Ulbernutt pulled yesterday. He performed the internet equivalent of inciting a riot or others to violence. Fortunately, Mississippi has a statute to address such behavior. The cyberstalking law (Section 97-45-15 of the Mississippi Code) states:
(1) It is unlawful for a person to:A conviction is classified as a felony:
(a) Use in electronic mail or electronic communication any words or language threatening to inflict bodily harm to any person or to that person's child, sibling, spouse or dependent, or physical injury to the property of any person, or for the purpose of extorting money or other things of value from any person.
(b) Electronically mail or electronically communicate to another repeatedly, whether or not conversation ensues, for the purpose of threatening, terrifying or harassing any person.
(c) Electronically mail or electronically communicate to another and to knowingly make any false statement concerning death, injury, illness, disfigurement, indecent conduct, or criminal conduct of the person electronically mailed or of any member of the person's family or household with the intent to threaten, terrify or harass.
(d) Knowingly permit an electronic communication device under the person's control to be used for any purpose prohibited by this section.
2) Whoever commits the offense of cyberstalking shall be punished, upon conviction:
- (a) Except as provided herein, the person is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than two (2) years or a fine of not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($ 5,000.00), or both.
The online harassment is getting out of hand. Just this week, some Tulane students set fire to the dorm room of a fellow student just because they didn't like his political opinions. Die Ulbernutt's tirade yesterday was intended to harass Mr. Waltman and as Keith stated "make his life a living hell." Law enforcement needs to put a stop to this crap before someone gets hurt.
General Hood should prosecute Olbermann and make it clear that such harassment will not stand in Mississippi. The "media personality" knew damn good and well what he was doing when he tweeted the threat but assumed he is immune to a serving of justice since he is famous.
Sorry Keith, an apology won't cut it, if one is offered. Attorney General Jim Hood or District Attorney Joel Smith should prosecute Keith Olbermann and hold him accountable for what he did yesterday.
And that, my friends, is the bottom line.

KF,
You are absolutely correct! As your buddy Kim Wade would say, "something's go to be did." Now let's see if AG Hood has the courage to stand up to the thug and get some justice for a Mississippi citizen who has had his life endangered by Olberman's inflammatory comments.
Both of Obie's readers would be upset if someone retaliated.
I agree, the time for the right to free speech is over. The constitution and bill of rights is just no longer needed. Censorship and government control are the only path forward. After all, it’s fir the kids. Glad to see KF take a grown up position on this!!
A plain reading of the statute shows that Keith did not violate any section of it.
Keith didn’t bomb the guys inbox.
Statute is not clear that asking others to email someone is covered.
KF your hatred of all things Democrat shines through with every tweet you retweet.
Shame.
You must be kidfing! There would be no money in such a case for Hood's trial lawyer buddies and financers. Unless Hood has a personal agenda (i.e. Highway Patrolman in Vburg, Republican candidate in Tupelo, etc) or a political agenda (Rss) Hood doesn't do a dang thing unless his consiglaries can get a healthy payday.
When I was at Ms. State, there was a turkey farm on a backroad to West Point. There were hundreds of turkeys that were solid white. (p.s. they also could not fly over the 3 foot fences.
I'm not sure any of Olbermann's followers could make this young man's life a living hell, at least not without getting some turkey shot in their liberal asses. Read the article, pussies. He's good out to sixty yards.
Olberman got paid doing commercials for Boston Market...the sandwich company that is responsible for the deaths of literally hundreds of thousands of white turkeys.
"Gun owners are dangerous nutjobs and can't be trusted."
"Let's all go threaten this gun owner real quick."
Same idiot.
I have to say that i agree with Olbermann on this. I really hate it when the Clarion or any other media outlet features a proud hunter foolishly posing with their latest kill, especially if it is a rare find in nature like a record-breaking alligator or in this case a rare-colored turkey. We have plenty of dumb humans on this planet. We need to preserve our interesting examples of wildlife without feeling the need to pillage and plunder.
Doubt me? Go to the mall and observe your fellow Americans or sit in a cafe and listen to some of their conversations! Total Morons!
Best thing that happened to the Clarion Ledger in 15 years. Imagine that, people going to the Clarion Ledger to read an article about something local. I'm shocked they have anything still in that rag other than AP feeds. Maybe they'll take a lesson. Nah, too late.
I take it you are not a conservationist. While we're at it, we should also preserve all the record breaking pumpkins that could be posted in the media this year.
So, yeah Olbermann's a "nutjob", but I agree with him here.
And Sam R. should be fired, though not exclusively for this issue.
I too hate to see a poor, innocent, dead animal held up as a trophy. Hunt if you must to feed your family, but don't force the rest of us to look at it.
nice bird
I disagree with Keith Olbermann's comment, but Kingfish's (I still feel strange referring to a grown man by the name "Kingfish") editorial is off base. This is not a criminal violation of the cited statute. And, if it is, then that is a very unconstitutional statute.
Olbermann was not inciting violence. That is snowflake-level hyperbole, right there.
The correct response is to shame (or ignore) Olbermann about his shaming of this hunter. Not to prosecute him in Mississippi. I cannot believe that we are even having this talk...
These Twitter Wars are getting old. The anonymous commenters on this Board make equally repugnant comments on this site, daily. And these comments are approved by this blog. Should these commenters be tracked down and prosecuted under this statute for "inciting violence"? I am sure some of their comments are be construed as threats by those looking for a reason to throw their political enemies in jail.
Damnit, KF, you won. I am now triggered (sarcastic, but you did get me to spend more time writing this comment than I intended; well done).
Kweef Oldermann has become so irrelevant that he is now trolling the local birdcage liner hoping to spark some outrage. Welcome to clown wold peaple.
If a hunter saw one rainbow colored, he sure as hell best not take it out..
4:22 - Surely you know this has nothing to do with your opinion (or mine) regarding hunting turkeys or any other animal. It's about threatening or attempting to cause extreme duress and pain over the internet. Can you grasp that?
"Use in electronic mail or electronic communication any words or language threatening to inflict bodily harm to any person"
"Making life a living Hell" does not imply bodily harm.
(b)My wife makes my life a living Hell every day & I can't do nothing about it!(/b)
Everyone is a special snowflake these days. Next thing you know, KF will be asking for this to be a hate crime against the under-educated. When did the GOP turn in to such bitches?
I wonder what would have happened if whoever Olberman's "opposite world" doppelganger might be suggested making the rest of some black guy's life miserable for doing something completely legal, yet distasteful to him. I also wonder what is going to happen when this kid and some attorney find each other and the lawsuit gets filed, ala the MAGA hat kid. Olberman has pulled some dumb shit in what passes for his career, but he may have really screwed up this time.
My sister's cuckold loves Olbermann, John Oliver, and Bill Maher. I can't relate to those dudes. I favor listening to Black Pigeon Speaks on YouTube.
Perhaps Oldeman should focus his vitriol on sex traffickers, drug dealers, child molesters, bank robbers, extortionists, terrorists, elder abusers, and the like. There are plenty of folks doing horrific things in this world. I'm not a hunter, and I do not have a desire to kill animals, but hunting is as old as man (and very much legal). This prick should find a real cause to champion.
All of you liberal snowflakes commenting on here can't stand to see an animalkilled for food but you applaud aborting many thousands (I don't know the actual number so I won't guess) of babies. Abortion is a poor method of birth control by people who are irresponsible with their bedtime escapades.
If we post the number of right wing nut-job "call to action" posts there have been next to this example from the left and see who has more posts of media personalities bullying everyday (essentially defenseless) people, I think no one can claim pure victim-hood.
This isn't about black/white, or Christian/Muslim, or gay/straight. It's about money, and the people with money are literally killing you off while you run around foaming at the mouth about what someone said on Fox News or MSNBC.
Can you afford healthcare? Childcare? Housing? Education? Great! Can your children?
If you use the same yard stick to arrest Olbermann, than why wasn't Kenneth Stokes arrested for his comments about throwing rocks, bricks, sticks at police? Oh, I forgot he's black & say anything because of past oppression.
Welcome to the 2019 Orwell society.

It's comical. Rare bird would die of natural causes, and never be seen or heard about. Hunter kills rare bird, has it stuffed and mounted and will be able to be seen, talked about, and promote healthy wildlife management.
Similar to a one James Audubon. This story is from a 1997 NYT article, but Audubon used to kill all the birds he painted. Read this excerpt from the article:
Nature is violent. We all know that. And John James Audubon was no exception. The self-taught naturalist-painter killed thousands of birds in his day, gaining a biologist's knowledge of their body parts as he stuffed and painted them.
''He was able to create more natural poses by devising a system using threads or wire tied to the bird's head, wings and tail, allowing him to position the bird's various body parts in any way he chose,'' reads the text on the gallery wall. ''He would simply lift the wires until a particular position was achieved and then hold everything in place with pins.''
Read it for yourself. https://www.nytimes.com/1997/03/30/style/the-dark-side-of-audubon-s-era-and-his-work.html
to the turkey hunter......yeah! good hunting and a good kill!
I called Mack Flecknoe re contacting a likely candidate in Jackson for his opening but it seems he's already overwhelmed with promising resumes.
That poor snowflake hunter. Bless his little heart. All these mean liberals talking mean to him on Twitter. It’s just not fair that a country boy should be exposed to that. All for trying to get a little media attention for his heroic kill of a bird.
People who promote the President’s use of Twitter to harass opponents and spread crazy conspiracies calling for an online harassment prosecution is rich. Just rich.
@11:20AM and 11:35AM
You basically described White Fragility
Whites have spent a millenia oppressing people of color.
Now that the oppressed people have scratched out a small amount of power and the courage to fight back, notice how white people whine and complain and commit acts of terrorism and create racist conspiracy theories about "white genocide" and other such nonesense.
It would be funny if they didn't still hold on to power as exemplified by the election of Donald Trump.
The problem will soon take care of itself.
The hunters that shoot anything that move will wipe out all of the turkey, deer, rabbit, dove & squirrel population and the only animals you have left will be on the internet.
Anyone who calls to action like doberman did "We should do our best to make sure the rest of his life is a living hell." and then his followers then proceed to do just that IS a crime. You cannot encite your followers to harass an individual regardless of how you feel about hunting or animals. That's why twitter i believe has already removed his tweet. Even the libtards at twitter know what he did was stupid. I hope he does get charged with some sort of harassment. Of course how much do you want to bet that his case will go just like Juciey Smellys trial went....
___UPDATE___
JACKSON, Miss. – ESPN broadcaster Keith Olbermann, who started a social media firestorm when he attacked a Mississippi turkey hunter for killing a rare white gobbler, tweeted an apology to the young man Wednesday night.
"I am an opponent of trophy hunting and remain so, but nobody should feel threatened. This was anything but my intent, so I unreservedly apologize to Mr. Waltman for this tweet," Olbermann wrote.
The tweet Olbermann, a former MSNBC political commentator, originally sent was taken down by Twitter. The tweet attacked 22-year-old Hunter Waltman of Kiln, as well as Clarion Ledger outdoors writer Brian Broom. Broom was not mentioned in Olbermann's apology.
This is the first shot of a calculated effort by the media against hunters, and by association, gun ownership.
Just watch.
Well, at least it wasn’t a lion. Probably an escapee from a turkey farm.
