JPD issued the following statement.
Jackson Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the
intersection of Hanging Moss Road and Forest Avenue. It happened just
after 6:00 pm this evening.
Officers responded to the location regarding a vehicle accident.
When they arrived, officers found a collision involving a pickup truck
and an ATV. Officers also found an injured white male lying in the
roadway, unresponsive.
Officers later learned that following the accident, two black males
who occupied the ATV were involved in an altercation with the driver of
the truck. One suspect fired gunshots striking the victim and both ran
from the scene abandoning the ATV.
The victim suffered a life-threatening injury and was transported
to an area hospital where he later died. The victim is identified as 52
year-old, Charles Ponthieux.
Investigators are following up with leads that may have identified
both suspects and are working to verify that information. No arrests
have yet been made.
Kingfish note: Mr. Ponthieux was the manager of Top Dollar Pawn on North West Street.

Pawn shop managers and owners have a target on them with dangerous desperate people. It's a dangerous business. One pissed off customer is all it takes. Guy 2 houses down from me in NE Jackson owns about 10 pay day loan locations. Tells me he's been afraid of some customers and there families in cases before. I would assume this is similar type clients.
Is That the same pawn shop where the employees punched a customer in the face for no reason a few years back??I hate to hear about anyone getting killed, but You have to be VERY careful how you treat people!I see so much hate in the comments on this blog and I'm sure there's going to be alot more on this story for sure, but Karma is very real. The streets of Jackson are much MUCH different than the firing range or hunting in the woods and when you try to approach someone that already feel like they have no hope or way out That's NEVER been hunting or the shooting range, things may not turn out the way you think.I know it's going to be a lot of finger pointing, but the first person you need to blame is your Governor for making it easier for people already impoverished to carry concealed weapons. The other is the Gun shows that dump cheap guns on the streets of Jackson EVERY month only in the city of Jackson
“Manger...?” As in, where the Little Lord Jesus laid down hos sweet head? KiiIIIINNGfish, have I taught you nothing?
Eager for details.
What we know:
1) A man was shot and killed in Jackson.
2) It was yutes on a 4 wheeler that did it.
3) Tomie Green may be getting a blessing ready.
What we think:
1) The shooters got mad about something and killed in anger.
2) The shooters have no fear of the law.
3) There will be little to no punishment for the crime.
4) Just one more killing in Jackson
Maybe it's just me, but I'm having a hard time associating this collision in the roadway with a pawn shop over on the corner. Even though the deceased worked there, what's the connection with a traffic-wreck, pissed off people, gunshots and a fatality?
There isn't any. The pawn shop part has nothing to do with it I'm told.
1:28 Being "impoverished' or just plain stupid does not in any way change the fact that YOU are responsible for YOUR actions. There are all kinds of dangerous articles or activities available to the public if they can pay for it. That does not mean that the stupid who buy guns are not liable for their own actions. There is NO excuse. NONE.
God love and bless this man and all who loved him.
What was an A TV doing in the roadway? Why we're the riders armed? What in the Hell was Mr Ponthieux doing in that neighborhood? Was the A TV stolen? The guys at the pawn shop deal with a terrible element and are heavily armed as they should be. And they never hit anyone in the face for no reason. I am sure they are given plenty of reason to hit lots of people in the face. Sounds like TNS to me.
Prolly too the four wheeler at the Pawn Shop on a loan. Maybe the shooter even pawned it and wanted it back, quick-like.
Show me some evidence any pawn shop employee ever punched anybody for no reason. They deal with the lowest of the low, the scummiest of scum and the rest need to be punched too.
-The pawn shop is just south of the incident.
-The ATV was stolen from the pawn shop.
-Two local yutes were involved.
-The deceased was in pursuit of his ATV.
-Blessings from her honor are pending for the yutes.
-Connect the rest of the dots yourselves.
11:29 - Where do you come up with the ATV being stolen from the pawn shop. I can't connect dots out of thin air like you did.
If you know this man you can make your thoughts known. If you don't know him keep your opinions to yourself. I've known Chuck for 27 years and he was a great man and a friend that would do anything that you ever needed. It doesn't matter what you think of a pawn shop or any predetermined prejudices that you may have against people working there. There's absolutely no reason that someone should lose their life in a way that he did. The piece of garbage thugs that shot him deserve to rot in hell for what they did. I hope that they will feel the pain ,first hand, that they have caused to his friends and family.
All who work at this pawn establishment are wonderful people. I frequent this establishment, not to pawn anything, but to see what new items have come into their salvage department. I love them all!
I don't frequent this site but I feel the need to say this murder was a HATE CRIME!! Black on white! It has nothing to do with the pawn shop or if the atv was or wasn't stolen. Two cowardly thugs decided to take an innocent life of a white male. And Wiseowl... we live in America. It is a free country and Chuck traveled that road daily for the last 20 years. He had more right to be on that road than the cowards did!!
What really grinds my gears is that there is no communication with the public about the shooters. I keep reading that the police are verifying who they think the shooters are but nothing more than that. Are there person(s) of interest that the police are trying to locate? Surely the police are able to track down the owner of the ATV or whether or not the ATV was stolen. The silence is deafening. I drive that same route to work every day as Mr. Ponthieux. Are the shooters from the area where the murder happened? Any information from the police would be greatly appreciated even if it means they know nothing. I would contribute to a “reward for information” fund and I’m sure there are others who would do the same.
Still nothing from JPD. I've known Chuck for over 30 years. He never mistreated anyone and would give the shirt off his back to his fellow man. The fine upstanding Jackson citizens that did this are likely to get away with it due to apathy/incompetence from JPD. Oh yeah, shout out to the upstanding citizen that walked to my friend as he was dying and stole the Glock handgun off his side, real class there. How long are we supposed to accept this level of dis-service from the leadership of the city of Jackson?
