Updated 11:30 AM: U.S. Attorney press release included in post.
A federal grand jury indicted Mikal Watts, his brother David Watts, Greg Warren, Wynter Lee, and several other defendants for allegedly trying to use fraud to gain a share of the BP settlement proceeds arising from the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The indictment also alleges that Watts used an attorney in Jackson to further the fraud. The indictment states:
It was further part of the conspiracy that defendant Mikal C. He's the head boy at the school,
He's the captain of the team,
He's so gay and fancy free,
And I wish all his money belonged to me HEY!
Wish I could be like David Watts
Maybe time to rethink that...
So when a superlawyer gets in a jam, does he call a super superlawyer?
Any idea who the Jackson, MS atty is ? Why would the US Atty not state his/her name in the indictment ?
And while I'm not accusing the local atty of any crime, why would he/she be a pass-through for $10 million ? I know why Watts would want a 3rd involved, to possibly hide any improper fee sharing with a non-lawyer. But wouldn't/shouldn't this Jackson atty be suspicious as to why Watts needed to run the money through him/her versus just paying his case-runners directly ?
Out of state lawyers often hire a local attorney who will be more palatable to instate jurors. It's very unusual that he/she is not named in the indictment. Could it be Dickie Scruggs?
Rob McDuff is indeed a super superlawyer. Misguided, maybe, but nevertheless a super superlawyer.
Think Little Dickie has been debarred. More likely one of the heavy advertisers that never actually steps into a courtroom.
