Ok, here's my 20-second glance takeaway... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Cochran: roughly 4.5 million in campaign contributions. 228-page list of donors.

McDaniel: roughly 1.5 million in campaign contributions. 331-page list of donors.

Both campaigns spending every bit of it.

Didn't have time to peruse through 500+ pages of donor names to see if there was anyone or anything interesting...

It would seem Chris McDaniel has more small, individual donors.

I am pissed! It just confirms what I've been posting all along. TC gets the rich folks richer and now I clearly understand why Mississippi uses so many third party consultants in their gov't agencies! It is amazing the number of CONSULTANTS, REALTORS, CONTRACTORS, CPA, ATTORNEYS that have contributed. Why in the hell does he receive so many contributions from Realtors from out of state? Interesting? B/C of all that darn funding for gov't funding! Note that Ridgeland Mayor Gene M., and Rita Martinson, Roger Wicker, Leland Speed contributed. And a GEOLOGIST gives $2000 - this is interesting! ANd a HOUSEWIFE contributes $5200 "Mrs. William D. Mounger" is this the wife or relations to the same Billy Mounger that once headed the state GOP? (the big donators - when Gunn was under fire for having the dinner party at the capitol in 2013?) And who is this RACHEL ALLEN from Jackson that contributed so much? CARDMEMBER SERVICE - MY GOSH! Monsanto-this explains a LOT! TELL ME I READ THIS WRONG, THE IRS CONTRIBUTES $17000?? MS AG MUSEUM - A GOVT AGENCY CONTRIBUTED? How can gov't agencies spend our tax dollars like this?? Especially when we don't support them? Did THAD rec'd more money from out of state than from his home state? This is sickening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He can go home and relax with his millions!

Anonymous said...

REF: Thad's contributions - Is this why Monsanto gets all the money for research? And the Crop Insurance contributing is govt subsidized --- how can this even be legal for gov't agencies or subsidized agencies to contribute to a campaign??????? Oh I am so mad!

People here are seriously bashing Cochran in favor of McDaniel? McDaniel reports to the state of Koch Industries. He could care less about the plight of Mississippians. It's one thing to vote idealistically. But to give your vote to a guy that so obviously is just telling you what you want to hear is a vote against our own self interests. He's nothing more than a hired gun hand-picked to represent the special interest of big guys with dark suits and darker money.

look at the contributors!

and thank goodness the IRS is working on something for tax exempt companies to be omitted from contributions thank goodness!!!! but it will not happen this election year and hopefully by next. many of these tax exempt businesses are just giving to campaigns a portion of what they're getting in government funding.....for instance the national rural Water Association which also funnels into the Mississippi Rural Water Association. we are doing nothing but funding tax exempt businesses and paying their big salaries!

11:42,

I don't know if that comment was meant to be satire or sarcasm. But you seem to have that names reversed.

McDaniel can't be supported by suits any darker than Cochran is already. The lobbyist crowd, which is vast and all-consuming, would rather have a known factor that they know how to convince to go one way or other on a vote vs some unknown "radical".

- your conservative Republican who has refused to vote in this primary pile of crap

If there were ever a glaring example of why the 17th amendment should be repealed (if the huge growth of power and taxation of the federal government didn't get your attention), this primary is it.

Why have a bicameral legislature that is directly elected? It's a slide toward pure democracy, which is one of the things that the founders knew was not the right thing for a country to be free and prosperous.

The tired old argument of corruption, is just that, tired. Corruption will always exist when money and power are involved.

I am beginning to convince myself it's not the person that's elected but how long they stay in power to build their empire. Term limits I think is the answer.

Fifty years ago today three civil rights workers were taken from their jail cell in Neshoba Co., kidnapped by members of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, murdered, and buried in an earthen dam.

The KKK members were operating under orders telephoned to them from Laurel, MS, by Imperial Wizard Sam Bowers.

One of the legal advisers for Bowers and his Klan recently offered $10,000 to the Chris McDaniel campaign.

The donation was rejected. But really.

Three lunatics from the McD campaign break into the Hinds Co. Courthouse on election night.
Another lunatic from McD's camp breaks into a hospital to take pictures of Sen. Cochran's seriously ill wife.
And Ku Klux Klan lawyers want to seen him win bad enough to offer to help pay for his campaign.

What has happened to my state?

And as a matter of thought who was the guy gladly taking his accolades at the natl rural water association gala for getting them billions? Yes, TC. (and by the way GH had his hands in this too) and if my memory serves me correctly, during the last large grant funding, they spent 2.7mm lobbying for billions. and this is one of those non profit businesses that provide a public service to provide water wastewater services at a very low rate, in which many of them have developers and realtors on their boards, interestingly enough. after reading the Office of Inspector audits, mostly in the West, embezzlement must be terribly easy. however in Mississippi some local rural water associations know just how to stay under-the-radar to keep the state from having authority to monitor them. you ask how? as long as they apply direct to fed, the state has no authority. so maybe they can do whatever they want with the large amts of grant money and low interest loans, maybe even invest it? maybe pay themselves large salaries? maybe give some of the grant money to a campaign? maybe hire that minority prime contractor (you know the one) to subcontract all the work to preselected contractors? and not one taxpayer seems to care or maybe they just have not researched the money trail! even the Mississippi Public Service Commission has no authority. when you are dealing with rural water grant money, you are dealing with fed folks and we know who this is. rural does not mean rural as we once knew it. now, multi million dollar houses are being built in rural areas and the land is selling for 20,000 or more an acre and 100,000 one lot. yes this is the new rural. thought I would 'splain that next time you hear a commercial for rural housing as there is much more involved than just a house. - and in addition Ive been told the man Kirby Mayfield that runs the Mississippi Rural Water Association (non profit) is also a lobbyist. every state agency and politician that I have spoken with knows him personally and Thad and Kirby made a great pic at a mtg a few months ago. so next time you take a ride in the country on a peaceful Sunday afternoon and you admire those big million dollar houses just thinking about that rural water grant funding.

I am not voting "against" thad, I am voting against power and control. the longer anyone, private sector or public, has been in a position - the more control, arrogance, and power they have. Human behavior.

or the Klansman was paid to do that. Think about it.

Just like they are paying fools to call pretending to be with Chris's campaign and basically harass people with hang ups and prank calls. Just got one earlier and verified that it is no way connected to the campaign. They harassed me after I said I was voting for Chris, but made like they were representing him initially. Good catch, KF. People need to think about who benefits from any particular action at this point.

a great philosopher once said. "Do not wait till you are a Setting Sun. It is a maxim of the wise to leave things before things leave them. One should be able to snatch a triumph at the end, just as the sun even at its brightest often retires behind a cloud so as not to be seen sinking, and to leave in doubt whether he has sunk or not. Wisely withdraw from the mere chance of mishap, lest you have to do so when it becomes reality. Do not wait till they turn you the cold shoulder and carry you away, alive in feeling but dead in esteem. Wise trainers even put racehorses out to pasture before they arouse derision by falling on the course. A beauty should break her mirror early, lest she do so later with open eyes." ......so with this being said instead of the Republican Party fighting against each other we need to combine for Republican power and Thad needs to gracefully bow out. This is is doing nothing but destroying the Republican Party. He seems to be running more negative ads than Chris is but then again he has more money. So this tells me he wants to return his position only for power. I was going to vote for TC but the arrogance has changed my mind.

I am sad for Senator Cochran. Haley and the boys convinced him to do something he was not planning to do and he got in over his head. He should be enjoying life and his legacy and now he has been humiliated. The GOP ought to have their butt whipped for buying votes and destroying an old man who just wanted to retire and would have done so with honor. I am not anti Thad, just anti GOP establishment.

hey 938. learn to read. there is a difference between receipts and disbursements. many of those 'contributions' you are talking about are 'expenditures'! Understand that I am probably saying this to a McDaniel supporter so I can make it simplier if you need me to.

and comparing McDaniel and Cochran contributions, mcd's are largely those 'raised' by the club for growth - their email blast around the country and the folks send them in. 'small' contributions doesn't include the money being sent to cfg for their expenditure.

hard to compare or contrast these two - both have plenty of big contributions, and both have plenty of small ones. can't say either is clean. but I can look at where the dollars are coming from and Cochran has a large advantage on it being from in state.

"Show me the money?" let me 'splain somethin' to ya'll.... and some of you may be defensive about this but it would be only because you would have been a recipient. most people do not understand where a lot of the free money goes or has gone. For example, let's say I am a large landowner. and I have lots of friends that are large landowners. And I found out there is a program to set aside my land because of erosion. So I tell the farmer that he cannot lease him the land anymore because now I can make $50,000 a year from govt (free money) which is more than the rent the farmer pays. now all I am supposed to do is maintain it by keeping it cut among other things the government requires in order for me to keep getting the funding. oops I can't afford to pay a couple thousand a year to cut my grass and keep it maintained! so me and my (now powerful contributors) other landowner buddies get together and complain about it to our government buddies. then the government decides well let's plant pine trees and later there is another program the wildlife conservation programs (because the land has not been taking care of as mandated in the former set aside program and
the trees and grass has grown up all over the property). now I'm getting a big check every year, the taxpayer has paid off my loan on the land, and I can sublease it to big hunters to come out and hunt for about 20,000 total per year. thank you taxpayer! you bought a thousand acres and I'm making money off subleasing to hunters. and I did not have to pay a dime for it! I got every penny I paid for it and made a big ole' fat wallet full of money. and do you think politicians are taking advantage if this? you are darn right rich landowners want to keep Cochran in office!

now I'm wondering why are all those realtors contractors and developers are giving so much money to do you know who's campaign? and some of them are out of state- interesting.... Hhhmmm.

Interesting after reading the former comments that Thad Cochran's commercial that ran today was paid by the National Association of Realtors! Ha! rub it in our faces Cochran!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
