Looks like the Navy is cancelling the Tomahawk and Hellfire missile programs. The Navy proposed a budget that spends no money on them in FY 2016. There is no money to purchase replacement systems for several years as well. Read page 12., One replacement program, LRASM, will probably not be ready for nearly a decade. Thank you, Ray Mabus.
Business Insider reported:
The reduction of Tomahawk missiles reflects the Pentagon's decision to invest more in next-generation land attack weapons, Lt. Caroline Hutcheson, a Navy spokesman at the Pentagon, told Defense News. She also noted that the military's supply of Block IV Tactical Tomahawks currently exceeds combat requirements.
Note: TACTOM is Tomahawk.

Maybe that's why he put his estate in Ridgeland up for sale? Now that he's a Washington man and all...
If memory serves me correct, Senator Cochran was one of the few Republican Senators who lobbied for the appointment of Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary. As I recall, some of his reasoning was that Hagel's wife was from Meridian or some such justification. I'm quite sure Thad supported Mabus' appointment because after all, he was from Ackerman. Genius!
Why does our government believe in a system of de-arming and weakening its military with base closures and cuts in defense spending when much of the world is arming to blow us out of existence?
I pray we actually have a leader in the White House when the war comes knocking on our shores.
Bullshit. Are you really hollow-headed enough to suggest Mabus could make a decision at this level? He exceeded the Peter Principle and plateaued out years ago. He limits out at showing up in white dress uniform and signing commendations.
Anybody who thinks Mabus has the authority, balls or intelligence to make a decision of this magnitude needs to back up and take a class in Regime-Basics.
capacity exceeds requirements... why keep building something you don't need. we fired about 400 missiles in the wars from 1991 to 1996 and just less than 300 since. our stockpile is over 4000 missiles. if stocks fall too low, fire production back up (and believe me, if they NEED it, money will magically appear in the budget for it). it's not like they are going to destroy the blueprints. one of our problems as a country is the belief we need to keep throwing money at the military, just because it's the military. whatever. spend the money smartly. you'll have a stronger military in the long run.
and we have over 55,000 hellfire, javelin and stinger missiles (which are old technology missiles anyway... the hellfire started service in 1984 and the stinger in 1987). modernizing the missile force seems smart to me.
6:36 sits in front of a computer, in a dark room, looking at shit he's printed out, wondering if a black helicopter is overhead, hoping somebody will think he is relevant while confusing himself with the same delusion that's hammered him since he was a college sophomore. In short, bull shit.
Black SUVs are pulling up in his drive as we speak. His wisdom is highly valued at the Pentagon. His family will never hear from him again. He'll be secluded in a think tank in a bunker under Rumsfeld's barn. Did I already say 'bull shit'?
Umm.. @6:59 PM
I appriciate good prose when I read it... But what the f*** are you talking about?
He talked about modernizing the missle stockpiles, you wondered aimlessly about black helicopters and SUVs.
Jesus, overreact much?
The Navy is working on the proton torpedo. This should be ready in a few weeks. And commodore Mabus will take the helm of the USS Enterprize on April 1st.
Live long and prosper my Vulcan friends.
Mabus still can't get over screwing up the best he ever had. You blew it Ray.
@8:20, WTF I am talking about is a nutcase pecking out his secret thoughts on retooling America's missile capability. And since he presented his thoughts on this here blog site, he has been whisked away to an underground bunker.
He'll be listed as a missing person by the Madison PD. His knowledge is highly valued by the Pentagon. Can't afford to have him wandering around and perhaps leading a Millsaps Focus Group.
I see most of you think we should still be making and stockpiling cannon balls .
Some of you apparently also believe the Secretaries of Defense and Navy micro-manage weaponry and print money for their budgets.
And, clearly you all have access to classified information and know more than those who do.
I would also mention that the Navy is only one branch of service.
But, I'll betcha every one of you is against overspending and government waste.
@8:33. well, maybe not a proton torpedo, but the navy is very close to deploying railgun systems on their ships. these can put 10 projectiles a minute on a 16ft circle 370km away. this lessons the need for tomahawks even more. America usually doesn't skimp on military technology. we pay top dollar for advanced weapons long before they become mainstream.
Still and forever amazed anybody would think Ray Mabus actually had any role in this decision.
Mabus was a zero governor. He later became a zero husband and ex-husband. Then, for some reason known only to the Devil, Bill Clinton gave him a federal appointment. Now, for a reason known only to God, Obama has appointed him to a ceremonial job that will give him a federal pension forever at a really high level. This is baffling as shit.
Baffling? Nah, it's all about the $$$ given to campaigns.
Mabus wasnt that bad a governor. His main problem as governor was the staff he hired and trusted. Although Mabus went thru a bad divorce, he was a great father to his two kids by his strange ex-wife. God certainly knows why Mabus was given a job with the Obama administration, but non-diety political types would speculate that it had to do with the fact that Mabus worked tirelessly and at his own expense speaking for Obama in 2006-2007when he was not considered likely to be the Democratic nominee, much less president. It is not baffling that a former governor who worked that hard for Obama would get a good job when Obama won. Also, Mabus is rich with family wealth and surely does not need a meager federal govt pension.
March 31, 2014 at 9:57 AM = mabus spinmeister and favorite shill
I am sure that all of you are smarter and more competent than Mabus. He was merely a Fulbright Scholar, top 10 Harvard Law School, governor, ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Secretary of Navy. Mediocre resume by your standards no doubt. What does he know about anything compared to you whiz kids?
