USM player's mom deals with heckler

USM football player's mom has to leave after she went off on someone heckling her son. Needless to say, some yokel at the game recorded the outburst and then of course posted it on Youtube. Sorry about the title embedded in the video. I didn't do it and frankly, I'm not changing it as I want people to see how some "fans" treat the parents of these players. Looks like racism to me but that's just me.

Now if the team would have some of this mom's passion, maybe they would not be um, winless.

Wish I could have seen the prelude to her exit. No parent should be restrained or punished for defending her child, and race doesn't have anything to do with it.

State and Ole Miss have never treated their own so badly....smirk smirk

The money problems wll prevent USM fro buying out EJ & his friends, maybe you could get Brett to be the new OC without a salary?

We need to see and hear the "rest of the story." Seeing only the Mother and not the so called heckler and not knowing what he/she said/did, there's no way to know what happened so I am not going to assume anything.

When blacks are involved, everything is automatically to be considered racism, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

Maybe a Hinds County Supervisor was at the game and yelled Bull S#%t, and Yo Mama at her.

Anonymous said...

racism? for all we know it could be her drunk ex-husband throwing peanuts at her

Kingfish said...

I said racism because of the title of the video. Turns out its Alford's mom.

bill said...

I think KF meant that the embedded title of the video was racist, not the lady or the heckler.

Anonymous said...

What does "keep my child's name out your mouth" mean exactly? Is that southernese?

Shadowfax said...

I hope Kingfish's racism remark was a joke. If not, he's a dumbass. Purchasing a ticket gives one the right to cheer or boo, holler at the coach, cry foul on a bad call and, yes, holler at a player who costs the team yardage.

Somebody should have told her to take 'Yo Mama Ass to the house' if the kitchen was too hot.

HER attitude, coupled with the 'superfly-hero attitude' of these sudden-stars always results in neck-bling, date rape, cap-poppin' and eventually, being kicked off the team for 'rules violations'.

But momma just want a new double-wide and a EscaMoLade.

It is pretty common knowledge in the Hattiesburg area that Alford's mom caused a huge scene, including running onto the field, at a Petal HS baseball game involving her son last year. Don't know if there is any video of that incident.

This video from Saturday's game was edited to remove all of the F bombs she was dropping. Her verbal explosion was picked up by the audio feed of the game, so those who were still paying attention and watching the game on TV heard the expletives, but until this video surfaced, had no idea of the person's identity.

It is my understanding the tirade started when someone in the stands yelled for Alford to be pulled and for a QB to be put in the game. If you have followed the Alford-to-USM story you may remember that he came to the school on the condition he would play QB. Apparently mom Alford took offense to the comments coming from the stand and well, you see (a bit of) what happened.

It is also my understanding that once she was removed from the seating area, she resumed acting up in the concession stand area, resulting in her being taken away in handcuffs.

An unfortunate incident on so many levels. On the other hand, I must say in that one video clip she exhibits more fire and passion than Ellis Johnson and his entire coaching staff.

Roll back the clock and give the guy yelling about Alford advance notice that Alford's mama would hear what he says and I doubt he would heckle. Football's just a game, and no one wants to hurt some mom's feelings, or even the player for that matter. Virtually all the screaming at the coaches and players in football is inaudible to them and only serves to entertain the surrounding fans. That is, unless one of the surrounding fans is a players mama.

what would one expect at a bush-league, erh, CUSA, game

I'm not disputing at all your account of what happened at the game. I'm just saying what was racist was the title. Would've been nice if he had posted the full video with no edits if it does indeed exist.

Having said that, its hard as hell for the parents to sit there and take heckling. I know some of them act a fool but still, was that grounds for referring to her as a black woman in the title?

Anonymous said...

There is nothing racist about calling a black woman a black woman. It is an irrefutable fact that she is, indeed, a "black woman". The "crazy" label appears to be pretty accurate, too.

Anonymous said...

Shadowfax, are you racist?

Shadowfax said...

The video and discussion are about an unrestrained fool with little or no appropriate socialization (home training) skills who has been allowed (and encouraged) by her little world to behave this way for probably decades.

I've seen white people behave in a similar manner, but it's usually at under-ten soccer games, not at the college level. Thank God she didn't have access to a cowbell.

So, to answer your question 7:36, "YO Mama!"

We are now experiencing times we have never before at USM. I have been at games since 1970. I have been a member of the Eagle Club, Alumni Assoc. and have had personal relationships with many of the coaches. PW Underwood brought black players to USM in 1970.(before Ole Miss, before MS State, before Alabama or any other SEC school.) Willie Heidelburg was one of them and was instrumental in is beating Ole Miss that year. Fred Cook was another. He went on to have an NFL career after he was named Mr. USM. This was during the 70's when the school had a student population of less than 5% black. We got problems but don't pile on anything that is not there. Alford is a fine young man and it is unfortunate that his mother had a bad experience. Most people not closely associated with USM and our athletic department do not know the kind of struggles we have faced through the last 40 years. Yet we found a way to get it done. We will find a way to get this corrected and back on track soon.

Shadow, why so pompous?

Anonymous said...

Been to many football games, Kingfish?

The heckle in this case, "Let's get a quarterback in there coach," is about as harmless as they come and is in no way racist.

The caption of the video is "racist" only if you're looking to be offended. The fact is, the woman was using common black slang and conforming to black stereotypes. It's no different than if a "Hindu" woman were talking fast in an Indian accent and swearing to Vishnu.

If noting that she is black makes you want to collapse on your fainting couch, that's on you, not the person who posted the video. This is the real world, not MSNBC.

Shadowfax said...

12:06; I've been to a ton of USM games in the past thirty years and have no clue what struggles you refer to. Feel free to clue us in. The biggest problems Southern has right now is bad decisions at the president, coach and A.D. levels for about eight years or so.

There's nothing pompous about calling out bad behavior, even when it's considered racist to do so if a black is involved. Can't imagine how he got to be 'a fine young man' with a 'parent' who behaves this way in public.

Cap'n - You really don't need to post as anon. Really.

Ibid (re:October 23, 2012 10:08 AM).

And in your case, I don't have to post anonymous.

I'm with Bill on this one. If the heckler had stopped to think about who might be in earshot, he probably would have kept his mouth shut. All of these players (if they have parents that are worth a damn) have parents in the stands. In fact, at this point in USM's season, I suspect that the majority of people in the stands are friends and family of the players. If you're sitting in decent seats, you're probably sitting close to one.

Given the way the season is going and the amount of blame being heaped on this kid (who is her kid), I don't blame this woman for getting pissed off. There's no telling what she's been constantly bombarded with for the last several weeks, and I suspect the frustration level just boiled over.

If you think you have some inalienable right to shout derogatory things at a college kid playing a game, then you also have to recognize the right of people to turn it around on you.

What a hoot! It is now a top story at Yahoo sports. What a fine ambassador for our state.

This video brings shame on our school, our quarterback, our city, and state. The world already thinks Mississippi is full of dummies and racist. Southern Miss is a great school and I love my state and I know this video is not representative of me as an educated, self controlled, black woman but its just embarrassing to me because this kind of crap fuels these terrible stereotypes. I wish people would think before posting stuff on social media. We live in a society that loves drama...reality show type stuff. This lady was wrong and she paid a price for it by going to jail but these guys posting this has done much more damage than she did.

I'm not sure what "these guys posting this has done" is what you should be focusing on. It's like saying "that church that wouldn't marry black people was wrong, but the people who told everyone about it were the real problem."

If you act like this in public, you deserve to have it filmed and posted on the net. Don't like it? Don't show your ass like this.

And stereotypes don't just form out of thin air. They usually have some basis in fact. They're not bad because they are completely untrue, they're bad because they allow us to stop viewing one another as individuals. History has shown, repeatedly, that this is usually the first step people take before they start doing really bad things to one another.

@ 12:09

Following your logic, that would make Kingfish the bad guy for posting video of Kenny Stokes shouting bullshit and yo mamma during a public meeting. Sorry darling, your logic is flawed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
